For the most part yes, except a few of the matches got easier.
- Intercept him in the air before he activates the armor absorb
- EX s-sh-shoryuken
- Ultra 1 if he does it really close to you, or U2. Not sure about U2 distancing but in theory I think you can hit him because he has a little bit of recovery on landing
- Wait for him to land and kara throw him (he can still tech I think)
Also air ex tatsu
Not in this game Though in SFxTK his Ex Tatsu has enough frame advantage to go into c/mk so that would be at least +4
Jump HK st HK Ex Tatsu c.mk Ex Tatsu c.mk Ex Tatsu c.mk HK Tatsu
Wonder how much that does lol.
Hi folks,
I’m having some troubles against good Roses. Im not sure but I think now that Rose beats Ken easily ^^. So, my problem basically is her pokes and that damn slide. I usually play against a very solid Rose that pokes a lot, and is very defensive and everytime I try to get close to her, she pokes me out, or if I jump she does that slide putting me on a bad situation when I land.
Sometimes I try to focus the slide and I never get a lvl 2 or a counter lvl 1 crumple, because if Rose does the slide far from Ken she recoveries so fast that she can just block my focus atk, do an ex spiral, or just backdash far from me. Not to mention the fact that if I start focus a lot, my friend just start doing her spiral to counter me, breaking my focus armor from a safe distance.
The info about Rose matchup on the first page says that c. MK beats her slide, and I dont think it does. Her slide beats all ken normal moves, some rare times you can counter her slide with c. LK or with c. MK. But the timing is very difficult (From this attempt its easier for Rose to get a counter from her Slide and do a c. MP -> spiral 3 hit combo).
So besides the tips on the first page, anyone got anymore information?
Peace
i wanna say i punish the slide with cr. short… but I can’t really remember. One thing I do know is the seems more vulnerable to the j.hp fake crossup for some reason, and also empty jumpin crouching attacks to start combos. Outside of that just wait for them to do that lunging godlike attack she has then punish w dp… seems to work well on her
The Rose match up is a really tough one in my opinion. It really comes down to good footsies and whiff punishing. I think the way to go is smart use of far.st.hk, raw sweep and step kick.
If you can predict a fireball coming, you can sometimes get in for free with a full screen kara air tatsu.
As it’s gonna be tough to get in, you definitely need to keep Rose on her back once you get there. OS sweep behind all your jump ins to keep her honest on wake-up. Her backdash is godlike and many Rose players rely a little too strongly on it in clutch situations, so hurt them hard for it.
Joon’s match breakdown is very comprehensive for covering the footsie range, so give it a very thorough read…
Peace,
G.
I miss Joon…
I think we all miss Joon B.
I think this belongs here as well. Copied from the unblockable thread.
I need help with Evil Ryu… seriously I felt like every single one I played watched the video of KOK bodying Michael Tan…
C.Viper: meaty cr.LK OS LP+HP beats her wakeup burn kicks, ex seismo, and EX burn kick.
if she EX burn kicks on wakeup, she gets hit by cr. HP but gets out of the corner
I can’t do OS lp shoryu, input is sort of weird for me, so I just do this.
I have so many problems fighting against ken players who abuse his step kick and kara grab. Any tips as a Ryu player to beat this?
You can focus or neutral jump step-kicks. Tech, jump, back-dash, or uppercut his kara-throw.
Also you can use cr.mp as a poke to counter step kick
How many bad match ups does Ken really have? No, I’m not asking about what characters you have trouble with. Which characters are there that shut down most of Ken options if not all of them?
Sim and Adon, IMHO. Sim can keep Ken out extremely well with his normals, on reaction, it’s just so frustrating. Adon’s st.HK outclasses Kens normals and his Jaguar pressure is really annoying.
Bison, Sim, Adon, Chun-Li, Fei-Long, Evil Ryu, Viper, Seth, Dudley, These characters normals/tools just keeps ken out or dominates his normals.
By most options, you’re asking for 7-3’s right? I’d like to contribute to the SSF4 Tier List Thread REBOOT but I don’t play much anymore so I kind of think my opinion’s become invalid, for the most part.
I don’t see how E. Ryu and Dudley can outclass Ken.
E. Ryu has the damage, long range low forward and fast walk-speed but I feel you can out-space him and beat the start-up of his low forward well with Ken’s low forward. I feel that an E. Ryu needs a stronger neutral game than the Ken player to stand a chance.
Dudley’s fierce is great but that’s kinda all hes got. If you just space him out so he can’t use it, you can play the fireball game. If you bait out that ducking(?) move, you can whiff punish easily. Dudley’s mix-ups are great up close but I feel Ken’s neutral game is much better.
I do agree that everyone else on that list has a slight advantage over Ken. Just add Blanka, Rose, Balrog, Cammy, DeeJay, Gouken and Guile.
I just have no solid answers against Adon and Sim, so I believe they’re Ken’s worst match-up.
I have no opinion whatsoever on Dan, Hakan, Gen, and El Fuerte.
For Adon, I haven’t really thought about how to handle him but here are two good reference matches

-Deep blocked jag kick is punishable on block, but I am not too sure about the distancing/visual cues
-Tokido does a lot of low forward to try to make air jag kick whiff
-Everytime gamerbee whiffs a jag kick, he gets punished hard
