USF4 Ken Improvement Thread (+EVO Result)

lol @ kens eyebrows needing a buff, that stuff is priceless.

I haven’t read the entire thread yet but is Kens air throw a possibility? Talk about being thrown from wall to wall. Would love to put my opponent in the corner where Ken has a huge advantage over most of the cast. Talk about instant pressure coming out of nowhere.

I don’t think air throw would be a good move for Ken. His Air EX Tatsu already puts people in the corner by almost a full screen.

I main akuma, and it hurts me to play against a Ken player. He has nothing to rely on against Akuma.
On the other hand, reversal-scrub fierce shoryu =>super hurts like fuck, but this is pretty hard to land against a runaway chars…

I used to love ken as a Second in most of Street fighter game, but in Sf4 ken is clearly shit… Used to love his risky-rushdown game.

And yes, i’m agree with many ken players, why ken sucks this hard in Sf4 whereas Ryu is overpowered. Aren’t they rival ?

The main difference between them sould remain their mentality’s difference and their gameplan, not their level.

In general I expect Ryu to do bigger dmg per attack and Ken to be able to get more attacks in to compensate for dmg. Also expect Ken to be the faster, for the most part, when normals are similar. Were [on hit] Ryu’s specials would be more consistent [dmg and effect] regardless of range, Ken’s would have potential sweet spots and risky hits. I thought this was present in SSF2 and would hope to see it better defined again in SSF4.

IIRC Ken players would want to play in the their attacks sweet spots for most of the match and use the effective range’s risky hits to ensure they deplete the last of an enemies health.

yea i agree an air throw would be a bit much…
but since ono said tht old chars would get new moves (well actually old moves back) would anyone like to see the cvs “sean-like” overhead kick back??? (cuz i would)

for one kens is far more safe on block, if anything put his lk tatsu at +3(only if the initial knee connects) so i can link it, that would keep you from looping it too

they should kill off ken.
he was only created to make SF1 a 2 player game and there was limited memory thus he was a ryu clone. therefore ken is a waste.

I just thought of something else. He should wear sneakers with all of his outfits. I really find that the training shoes he wears with his alt costume don’t fit with his pimp suit and gold chain. Maybe some Nike Airs, Adidas or Reeboks. I think some black Reeboks would be best :smile:

One of Ryu’s win quotes is something about how he can afford shoes but doesn’t want them because he’s too cool. We all know Ryu is poor so I think Ken’s look should reflect that he’s ballin and Ryu isn’t.

Yeah I’m gonna repost Chaos’s sum up for Ken, just to try to get it back on track a little. He didn’t mention Ken’s FA not moving him forward, which I’d say falls into medium priority. Definitely not a character breaker, but Ken would be a more dangerous threat on the ground with a better FA. And since he’s supposed to be rush down, but his priority on normals/specials are a bit off, and there’s just the “silly” things (Target combo/ridiculously weak fake Ultra) that make him feel a bit tedious to play with at times. I’d say an improved FA should be pretty high up on the list, right under improved walking speed, and the better DP.

chaos pretty much sums it up, does anyone think ken will be addressed as much as we hope?

Ken’s f+mk is -2 on block. Akuma’s s.fk is 0 on block. Neither are punishable but you need to be smart about what you do after a blocked f+mk. I don’t think ken needs a loop like Akuma to be good. I can’t ignore Dr. Chaos’ opinion of what to change, since it’s pretty much on point and exactly what Ken needs.
