USF4 Hakan change list. UPDATE: Fix for CR LK

Really nice buffs overall. Hakan will be more viable without oil.

The only question remaining is how delayed wake up will affect his vortex. If we can react to the “technical” during uncrouchable setups by cancelling the grab or something like that it will be ok.

Small analysis for beginners:

Stand MP buff is quite huge, it will be easier to combo out of it with cr.LP xx slide or even with forward LK xx slide (or even st.LP forward LK, and player with insane execution can go for st MP st MP Forward LK xx slide I guess lol), it’s a good tool for zoning too and often hits as a counter hit (new interesting counter hit combos? At least the current ones will be easier) so it’s really a great improvement.

Stand HP buff is awesome, it was already a decent anti air AND zoning tool, now it will be even easier to anti air. Some jumps were able to go right through it with certain angles (around the head of hakan) and it was misleading because the move visually seems to cover a large area from the back of his neck to the area in front of him, while passing overhead his head.

Crouch LK buff is good too, but not that good. We’ll get some interesting just frame combos and it will be better to do frame traps after. But as it is not 0 anymore on block we’ll have to be carefull when going for cr.LK on block -> Ultra 1.

**Crouching MP Cancellable **-> Really great. It is one of the best counter poke and now we’ll be able to buffer slide (which is armor break). Just an awesome buff.

6+HK (No Oil) knocks down the opponent -> Great because we can go for oil after. But no more 6+HK on hit -> Ultra 1. But having oil is better than being able to mixup after.

Neutral Jump MP knocks down like Diagonal Jump MP. Really great. One of the best neutral jump for Hakan especially after a knockdown, I can see some great setups with a delayed neutral jump that puts jump attempts and backdashes in a juggle state.

Diagonal Jump MK hitbox expanded, easier to cross-up. It was really impossible to cross up with it mid screen, a bit easier in the corner but insanely hard overall. We’ll see if we do have a cross up or not now. Still, a great buff.

Hakan Tackle (6+MP) disadvantage on block reduced by 1 frame (-5F → -4F); advantage on hit increased by 2 frames (-2F → 0F).
One of the best buff. 0 on hit for mixups and still safe on block if you space it right.

Air Throw damage increased by 10 (140 → 150). Nice. People will respect it more now.

L, M and H Oil Rocket (No Oil) throw range increased by .08 (0.97 → 1.05).
EX Oil Rocket (No Oil) throw range increased by .23 (0.97 → 1.20).

Big buff. A rocket = a knockdown = oil. Now it is possible to do a rocket without oil as a defensive move.

We have yet to see the effects of delayed wake up on Hakan but with these buffs it is sure that this character will remain viable.

The ST.MP buff also makes the counter hit links easier.I think that we can even do CH ST.MP ST.HP now.

DWU is actually totally reactable, also it won´t really hurt grappler mixups, rather jump in oki. I mean, we can still oil up in the end.

DWU can give us many setups btw.

ST.MP ST.MP F+LK xx HP Oil Slide for 297 dmg would be godlike to have, but I guess the pushback won´t maybe allow this.

Yeah counter hit is +3 more frames I guess but increased pushback so it will be to far for st HP I think. But you can go for something into slide which is really great as you can oil after, like maybe cr MK or an easy forward LK. I think that Counter hit st.MP cr.HK will be possible too, and this is awesome.

Hmmmm DWU seems nice but for me: U2 is really useless as any good player will never fall for it, and even if he does so: it does so little damage. On top of that it is hard to react with U2 and very easy for the opponent to make ambiguous jumps that may not be punishable by U2. That is why I always go for U1 now (I played U2 for a long time before).

Now with DWU U2 does even less damage and U1 seems quite useless if it does not do enough damage.

So I’m quite sure that I’ll stick with U1. Hakan has so many ways to go for it and the damage is good.

I don’t really understand which setups DWU gives us, for me it’s still a bet with even lower reward and U2 is more a threat than something that you wanna spend during a combo or something else.

DWU is delayed wake up and W-Ultra is the double Ultra thing. I thing you are confusing it :D.
W-Ultra for Hakan isn´t great imo. You lose a lot of your comeback potential with W-Ultra.

Hahaha okay I read it all wrong. Yeah I totally agree Hakan may have some very nice setups with delayed wake up. 11 frames is short but I’m sure we’ll find some new tech.

And yeah you are totally right about the fact that we can oil instead of mixing up, always a good choice to oil.

Man this forum is dead.

I plan on maining Hakan in Ultra…haven’t really played SF4 since vanilla but looking to dive back in. What should a noob focus on first with him?

Focus attack forward dash cancel into a normal attack during footsies and close range pressure (Focus attack released on guard into dash cancel cr.LK tickthrow) and FA BackDash Cancel during close/wake-up situation. Combos from LVL 1 focus attack on hit with forward dash cancel.

Uncrouchable setups that you can use during the neutral game (for example standing HP on block into uncrouchable LK DiveKick, HK/MK jump on block into dive), or during combos as resets (F.LK into dive).

All his bnb of course mostly combos with st.LP/st.LK and st.MP:

st.LK/LP * 3, F.LK xx Slide
st.MP cr.LP/F.LK xx Slide or st.MP st.LP F.LK xx Slide

Obviously you should learn to parry with Hakan (FA absorb one hit BackDash cancel into normal)

I would say that you should focus first on his walkspeed, overall movement, normals and the execution of his movelist. You play a slow walking, but mobile grappler after all. Then I would concentrate on his combos and after this on his setups. This is the way I would do it, simply learning the easier stuff first, then the more demanding things.

It seems like Hakan has been buffed in every subsequent iteration including Ultra, but people are still downplaying him hard. I feel like there will be a lot of blowups coming…

I could write a book about this.

BTW:“Zangief definitively still retains the title of strongest grappler.” Peter “Combofiend” Rosas in the Zangief changes video.

But hey, what can you expect from people, who thought that Sagat will be top tier in USF4, just because of DWU?

Hakan is imo the most complete grappler in USF4. Not afraid of Yun or Viper.

I’m assuming most of Hakan’s bnb’s will be different due to the buffs on his normals? Is it worth it to start learning the old bnb’s at this point?

The old bnbs are still possible… So 3x ST.LP or LK into CR.LP or F.LK still there. You will be still able to link into a ST.MP from a ST.LP or ST.LK, but now you can link a CR.LK into any 4f normal or a ST.MP into a ST.MP additionaly. ST.MP being +5 on hit makes his links into a 4f normal easier.

You should know them all, since we have now a low hitconfirm from a CR.LK into ST.LP now. So like cr.lk, st.lp, st.mp, f.lk xx hp slide for around 260 dmg isn´t bad.

cr.LK links will be very hard to pull off (just frame combos). In theory we could also do cr.LK cr.LK to some BnB

At least if cr.LK is well timed as a meaty it will be easier to combo after

1f links yeah, but oiled it chains into itself.

2 things:

The Hakan´s are writing here now.

And this:
A way to deal with Decapre´s teleport mixups.
