I really dont care if mvc2 is on dc or cabinet ill play it on both, but cvs2 should be 2/3 if the only way they can do that is on console then so be it.
This is true. But it’s not as bad as DC CVS2. My Chun-Li is 300% better on console.
i don’t mind this idea at all…it’d be cool if a couple tv’s were set up only for casual play…that’d rule… what kind of sticks would be provided?
its barely march 24th bro…
and if i remeber correctly last year most of the games were on console… and there were little problems… even GG and that’s a pretty fast game 2… ofcourse its not marvel button smashing kind of fast but u get the idea… and haven’t u guys ever been to console MVC2 tourneys? they go off fine
Two things:
-
Great post fubarduck. We will take a close look at all the issues you mention. That’s the sort of post that helps us plan and make sure we have all our bases covered.
-
No, this is not an April Fools Day joke, and no, you can’t bring your own cabinets. We’re making this change because we’ve hit limit where arcade cabinets are effective. There are just too many tournaments and players to continue using cabinets. It’s true that we could just try to duplicate the 2003 tournament, but Evo is about pushing the limits and making things bigger and better year after year.
The success of consoles last year proves that they can work out even better than arcade cabinets, allthough there are some issues that need to be ironed out, like fubarduck says.
i can volunteer my 27 inch TV and DC…maybe some bootables 2 if any1 wants
i dont think the issue at this point is so much, playin’ console over cabinet but the playing condition that comes with playin’ on a non-stationary stick.
only way i can think of mimicing the stability of a cabinet is to drill the sticks to the table with L bars and whatnot. granted that takes a lot of sticks for the mount of stations i imagine there’ll be at this year evo, but i feel it’s a good way to make things optimally functional. this eliminates the “bring your own stick” but people wouldnt be able to gripe, seeing as they played on pre-installed sticks last year and at their own arcades.
iono, probably an outlandish idea.
Responding about Mvc2 on console to Cannons or anyone who has power to change it: Mvc2 is a one of a kind game that CANNOT be held on consoles, again like Kai said, it just cant be contained on sticks, -1 the sticks may move etc, 2- The Trademark Errors that happens on the dreamcast about it recognizing memory card or controller for no reason, and some peoples Yellow Buttons on a mas stick. Mvc2 is just one of those games… Look at the east coast play… I mean HEAR THE EAST COAST play… its just not really possible again Mvc2 is the only game that has certain motions and commands that no other game has, to start is has ff’ers tri jump’ers TK’ers Button Mashers, and then we have just about anyone who gets into the game and mvc2 is one of those games that can and does come down to very last two char, or just certain situations that get your heart racing. OH, and about the Error, that happens for no reason, even if you’re stick works perfectly (and it does most of the time) it just does that and there is no helping that as well :(. So that would just add on to the problem of possible stolen sticks (trag had some missing). Oh, and of course the start butting occurrences, although I think that falls in the category of button mashing, since people mash with unbridled passion, it will cause pauses that just CAN’T happen in MvC2. Please respond, because I’m very sure some people really want to know how things will be going down, (its Evo2k4, take opinions into consideration) Again, its not whining its just stating facts, and there are a ton of facts that back all the ‘whiners’ heh.
there is not a chance for pads, is there?
I still think this can work. It’s gonna take some experimenting, and the first year isn’t gonna be perfect, but if it will increase effeciency for the tournament, it’s worth the effort.
When will we have the full list for all the games at Evo this year?
lets just look at it this way. for a turtle player, playing on console sticks would not matter all that much. even for a semi turtle, semi attacking player i dont think it would matter that much. but im aggressive as fuck. thats my whole game. i need weight on whatever i touch. or i might break shit. and once again, arm placement! its a very important thing.
yah, that and all the taunting that goes on in mvc2 :^).
mvc2 is the only game that goes that fast THAT MUCH. OH, btw isnt mvc2 the MAJORITY of the tournament er like it has more people entering (in reg cabinets of course). @ taunt issue,
How about having some pretty strong people hold your sticks so they dont move?
Or you could easily make a contraption that resembles a vise-grip sort of thing that could clamp down the stick to the table or another fixed object. Just use your head a little. It can be done.
this is not better or bigger. two of my friends already said they are not going anymore because console is homotastic.
yes you can use pads.
we added 50% more people ever year we hold evolution, and there will be more games than last year, bigger=yes, better=yes, maybe marvel qualifiers will end before 3:30am like last year.
and I wonder how happy everyone will be when the majority of evo players, that is mvc2 players, decide they don’t want to deal with sticks sliding around on chairs. Nice, just call the greater percentage of people attending the tournament whiners because of how their game plays.
I’d like to point out, with no malice intended, that you are //WRONG//. The NEC video was already mentioned as an example. This isn’t a case of ‘Oh, you can use a joystick on certain surfaces for mvc2.’ No. MvC2 does NOT work like that, and neither do the people who play mvc2.
What the MvC2 players need is not an arcade cabinet. In fact, I’m pretty sure if the two issues that have already been brought up by many other players were dealt with, almost all MvC2 players would be thrilled about the tournament moving to consoles.
Those issues, again, are:
-
moving joysticks. There needs to be SOME way to insure that a joystick WILL NOT MOVE during gameplay. I mentioned an idea, but apparently I’m not as brilliant as fubarduck.
-
Stick failure / random errors. Anyone who has ever owned a MAS joystick likely knows well the perils of playing on a stick with a little yellow button you use to toggle digital/analog movement, a button that if grazed, and sometimes even if you don’t press it at all, will disable you from moving in any direction until it is pressed again. On top of that, you have the random “Controller/Memory Card removed” error.
What are possible solutions?
-
When it comes to the moving joysticks, I already provided a makeshift solution, but that would require a lot of work and probably be more trouble than it is worth because of all the custom sticks out there.
-
As was mentioned earlier in this thread, provide pre-built setups where the sticks are locked down in a home-made cabinet, or build your own controller cabinets that resemble the arcade control cabinets. This will solve both problems, and will require the most work, but I don’t see any other way to realistic solve those two issues.
One question (sry if its alraedy been answered)
Can I use my PS2 stick on a DC with converter?
could this be an April Fools joke?
Will Life be played on Console? or Supergun?
I think the PS2 CVS2 is arcade perfect. It has everything the arcade has, including roll cancel
XBOX would suck because then 90% of the peeps would use P-Groove special into super cancels…ouch!!
