Use of Consoles at Evo2k4

To whoever is running EVO,

As you can see there is a lot of people that do not like the idea of console...specially for marvel. #1 because the joystick will move around,#2 people that do not get the chance to play and/or own a joystick wont be able to play to his/her fullness and that is very unfair to everyone.

Is this tournament (EVo) meant to be for players to travel far distance, spend their money to have a good competion and play their best in order to win. OR...is it just a tournament just make some money for whoever gets benifit by it? If there is anyone that gets benifit beside all of players(by playing games).

I think if you guys could have pull it out last year, you can do it again. I know time is our enemy(kind of) but really is more worth it if we are able to play our best when it comes down to a tournament. Just like SooMighty say “what about the people that have not ever play with joysticks?”

Just think about it…is it fair when we are the one putting the money?

no its not, just put the joystick on one of those folding chairs, it won’t move at all trust me.

makes sense, arcades are dead. good choice. only small pockets of resistance to change left, that will pass. with all the complaints SRK (and pretty much any tourney organizer gets) it’s a wonder that people still put up with the headache. run your own tourney if you want it on arc. hey, maybe you’ll revive the industry.

My friend has a setup like that. And still…if your heavy handed, or in the heat of a match start making stronger motions (not uncommon to mvc2), it’ll move, trust me.

APRIL FOOL’S!!!

oh wait… it’s only the 24th.

wtf?

We all know the Cannons have cabinets. But, how come they need to have MvC2 in console? Its alot better in Cabinet, and then theres going to be problems with the sticks. If you are running MvC2 and CvS2, how many consoles will be there? If theres 10 consoles, you need to have 20 sticks for each game. Thats 40 sticks! Plus, the amount of people that brings there sticks. Im very displeased at the judgement for MvC2 not being on cabinet. I mean, sure, the tournament will run faster, but would you really want people to be dissappointed while playing? I mean, I might actually not go to Evo this year as I planned. Im very discouraged. But oh well. We’ll just see.

I see a lot of disconcern bout MvC2 being on console…

Take those arguments and multiply it w/ every game…

Yea MvC2 is the biggest game last year… but the complains of each game are there for CvS2, 3S, GGXX, etc…

oh well… hopefully they’ll change…

wow, you guys are beyond picky, its not even funny… just be glad there is another evo. if you guys don’t like the idea of consoles for mvc2, then dont come… simple as that. Lets see you guys try and run evo and spend major amounts of money.

Neither Ink nor I own cabinets.

Come on now…some of us like crack.

do you like crack, because you are an african american?

I just dont want there to be a new champion this year for mvc2 and everyone makes up bullshit for his defense as in “well it was on console, thats why he lost”. So to be safe i vote put it back on arcade.

how about just put finals on cabinets

But dont you guys know some people that own cabinets? Why cant you guys do a 50/50? CvS2 on console,MvC2 on cabinets.

My original displeasure for holding MvC2 on consoles was based on the experiences I’ve gone through having get-togethers are friends’ houses. They have a tendency to slide around during the course of a match. But I think there could be a workaround for this problem. Other than that, I think having your own joystick benefits everyone since you’re using the stick you’re most accustomed to anyway.

As long as I’m not sitting on the fucking floor holding my joystick between my knees, I’m down to play on consoles.

INKBLOT or Ponder:

I have a few questions,

  1. Is it possible to still have cabinets maybe just for the 2 main games that get the most entries ( MVC2 , CVS2)?

  2. Will the evo fee be lowered then since we are going to console?

  3. Will console sticks be p360s with convex buttons?

  4. Why not bring CVS2 back to 1 game, instead of 2?

  5. Will there be rules up soon to see how console will be played, i.e accident pause etc, etc.

Imho last year I thought that was the better format. It was a wildcard thrown in that helped create more upsets and I think added to the drama of pool play.

I also think arcade format would be prefered for CVS2 and MVC2 . I know those 2 games are played the most on console and sf3 at the arcade instead of a console port , but I feel a decent amount of people like the arcade style of play. Im not saying console ports are different but the feeling of playing someone on arcade cabinet vs console is a big thing.

Also imagine how many folks carrying around mas sticks at evo and the theft etc, etc. I know there will always be theft but the odds of people taking things I think will jump a lot this year.

I’m not trying to bash on anything you do , I really appreciate everything I am just trying to at least better understand how you came to your decisions. That is why I am asking questions.

console is wak for mvc2.
because sticks move too much, yellow button of doom, disconnections, random pausing, happens a lot…
I see a lot of upsets and disqualifications coming. =o

I just chose a random post by an admin to quote, so this isn’t really directed towards Ponder as much as it is towards anybody handling evo 2k4.

Why not just build some sort of platform on which the arcade sticks could be placed so that they simulate arcade play? i.e. if you build something 4’ tall made out of wood, with removable cabients (one sized for a MAS stick, one sided for an agetec, etc.) for the joysticks? That would solve the sliding issue and help make the tournament feel more like a tournament, maybe.

When it comes to custom sticks, if you guys did follow this route, you could release the specifications; i.e. the removable cabinets have to fit in an area X by X, and that way people can build their own cabinets if they have sticks that do not fit into the prebuilt ones.

Granted, this is more costly than doing nothing, but much less costly than using arcade cabinents, I imagine.

The whole idea of North America’s largest annual tournament being played out on chairs and laps is sort of… frightening, for lack of a better word.
