Use of Consoles at Evo2k4

this works good for me, coming from out of the country I didn’t like the thought of using US sticks.

One thing though, how will the sticks be affixed? Will there be tables and stuff set up for people to rest on etc? Getting the position right is the most important part of the process IMO.

Huh?

Family Fun Arcade 3s baby!

Excuse my ignorance, I don’t play MvC2 at all. But are there any differences between the arcade and DC version that would make you say that? I mean, 3S is the only arcade game for a reason. Not because the Canon’s love 3S with all their heart, and think arcade 3S will bring them many good harvests. It’s because 3S is completely different game on DC.

So once again, is there any difference between the arcade and DC that makes MvC2 “arcade only” for tournaments?

Jive Out!

Not that I know of I was wondering that question the other day. So is there? I think somebody told me it’s faster on DC. Is this true?

:frowning:

i never liked console. never had a dreamcast or sticks. everything that results from making marvel a console tournament is rewarding. except the fact that it will be a console tournament. also, if there is someone who gets to use their own stick, and has been playing with that stick for a long time. and they can do whatever they please on the stick. how about the person that they are playing against who may have never played on console sticks? iono. its gravy tho. there will be many advantages/disadvantages for players. me personally, i suck on console/console sticks. playing on a cabinet brings the feel of an actual tournament rather than playing on console i would think. and also, playing on console sticks would mean readjusting your arm placement. ive played on mas sticks before. and a couple other customized sticks. so im not rambling thoughtlessly if thats even a word

Ok… some of you misunderstood.

There is NO cabinet for a supergun. You will still be using MAS / PS2 (with adapter) / etc type of joystick that is movable and not fixed. A supergun is just like a console, but it uses an arcade board for the game.

Well if you do this then maybe you guys will have GGXX reload?

I don’t see reason for console, unless you don’t have resources to get cabinets. If thats the problem, than go for it. =]

wanted 2 know same thing. im happy with the console rule.

Stick compatability: I think this is by far the biggest issue when converting this tournament to a console environment. While people can and have complained about arcade sticks screwing up, they can be fixed with the appropriate techs on staff. However, various sticks (specifically Agetec vs MASSticks) do not seem to work well with each other. It results in a lot of headaches and in many cases these errors crop up at horrible times in matches.

Custom Sticks: While the idea of the custom stick is great for some, it can prove disasterous for many of the reason brought up in the Agetec vs MASSystem issue. I’ve noticed that custom sticks have a tendancy for random screw ups (again insert controller for no given reason). Is it the fault of the person who built the stick? Is the poor wiring? Compatability with the console? What are the repercussions?

Stablization: For a guy like me with a “heavy hand” this plays a big role. I love the idea of the arcade because the machine doesn’t move even when you’re pushing that stick to the limits. I can’t use a stick on my lap or even on a desk unless it’s stablized. Case in point (and this is extreme) I literally glued my stick down to a computer monitor with industrial glue so that I would have the height needed when sitting on a chair/couch and the stability of an arcade cabinet.

Games: Who is responsible for bringing their games to this event? I’m sure many of us have been to console tournaments where games have gone missing and/or been forgotten. That’s with a small crowd of say 16 - 24. How do you track your games and whether they’ve been moved to different consoles in the midst of hundreds of players? Why do I as a player want to take that risk?

Security: IIRC, there was a ton of equipment stolen during Evolution 2002. With this much high priced merchandise (especially those MASSticks with additions put in them) floating around, what kind of security precautions would/could be put into place to prevent theft and/or damage?

International Issue: Was there consideration placed on the fact that the players from overseas (specifically the Japanese) may have problems bringing over equipment with them? With security issues at airports being what they are, how does one explain their Heavy box like electronic device being brought into the US being “just for games?” I’m sure that’ll go over real well with airport security.

I hope that helps.

The japanese brought sticks with them last year, so that is not a problem.

So, is XX confirmed for evl, or is there a chance it would be #reload?

Custom Arcade Joystick contest!!!

That would be awesome… I might make the trip for just that.

I would say that you should probably take moving straps optionally belt down the custom controllers, even though many controllers don’t have enough space to be strapped down.

Its gonna be XX, its highly unlikely that a US version of #r will come out in the next few months, and if it does we will switch up the tournament to #r, but right now its standard XX.

Yeah thats the major issue for mvc2 imo.

Considering all the mashing done on mvc2, I would think so too…

Oh yeah, stupid me, I forgot about the need for modded PS2s for #R.
Oh well…

this is the worst idea since crack.
All aiding to the death of arcades and fighting games as well. Wasnt the dvd trailer last year in “dedication” to arcades that had closed down?

So… Arcades really are dead…:frowning:

Nah just get flip tops … =D… easiest way to play imports =D

lates,

ROB_UNR

Make the tournament 24hrs! alot of shit can be done. this is once a year why make it console? and ST on dc is trash
