Use of Consoles at Evo2k4

Im one of the many people who will b displeased with the switching over to console, Im so used to playing marvel in the arcade? oh yeah, will arcade sticks b provided?

It will definitely be advantageous to have the tournaments on console as far as cost and speed are concerned. One of the main problems I have had with national tournaments in the past is that I spend most of my time not playing. When I head down to these tournaments now, I go expecting to not really get much of a chance to play at all. Running tournaments on console should help alleviate that problem to an extent. However, it seems that some new problems might arise (stolen equipment, more problems with equipment malfunction, players not having quality controls to play on, and my favorite; joysticks sliding all over the place while youre playing.) Overall I am not too happy about MvC2 being console, but if all the games on console means that I might actually get to play someone in a video game while Im at EVO instead of spending the weekend watching others play, I think its a good idea.

me too…

Is it possible to have both arcade and console?

Instead of simply stating your displeasure, can you (and everyone else in this thread who is similarly displeased) give a few reasons why console vs arcade makes such a big difference to you?

Thanks.

well, i think this is a VERY good idea. first off, i didn’t really like evo2k3(only cvs2) because everybody was using cbs with some random groove. like, i know ppl are going to flame me and say deal with it, but i use low tier or mid tier characters in cvs2 to adapt to the player’s fighting style the FIRST MATCH. since we’re going to have 2/3 in cvs2, that’s perfect.

onto mvc2: i don’t know…i’d rather prefer this on an arcade with p360’s because i’m just so accustomed to it. i’d rather have it on arcade because having ur stick on a table or lapping it isn’t the same. this is just my personal opinion though. plus, mvc2 doesn’t even take half as long as cvs2 even if u do turtle until u die.

my two cents.

It sucks when you’re playing a heated match, and one of the sticks go out. Not like someone presses pause or analog, but when someones stick just goes out on them. IE-if you’re playing marvel, and you get the message that a controller/memory card has been removed. It’s just a bad situation, cause it’s not like it was anyones fault, and then the person usually gets dqed.

It’s also just the feeling of playing on a cabinet. But i understand the situation, its much more cost/time effective.

I dont agree with your first statement. but yeah, its gonna suck with no cabinets.:frowning:

I don’t know man Inkblot can you explain whats a super gun then why not just keep 3s on cabs then if your gonna do that and throw everything else in on a DC I don’t mine the other games just 3s. So could you plz tell me what a SUPER GUN is and what about the Japanese players are they down to play on consoles.

This sounds great! Finally, Cvs2 being two out of three.

Honestly, I like the thought of moving over to consoles. (Take up less space and more game stations like they’ve said) But at the same time…what about sticks? Will they be provided? Since a good stick costs a decent amount of cash and what not, are the cheap ass people who can’t afford one left out? And as for Console vs arcade, I’d rather to only have 3S put on arcade since, like they said, none of them are truely worthy. And…sticks in general would move around while people play in these tournaments, unless we get something to hold the things down.
So, I’m for it, but at the same time I can see why some people complain, never the less through, I’m for it on the most part.

Yeah, there are so many apparent advantages to having console, but I feel that the one major disadvantage of putting players on something they’re not used to overrides the advantages. I don’t think it is stretching too far to say that the majority of the players out there are used to arcade feel. After all, isn’t one of the major goals of all these online communities to keep the arcade scene going through tournaments and grudge matches?

I don’t think anyone wants to hear people saying after Evo “Marvel/CvS2/etc. sucked this year because I had to use someone else’s joystick/MAS/etc.”

Right, but everyone is free to bring their own stick. This is another advantage of using consoles – you’re not forced to use whatever stick happens to be in the cabinet.

We will provide some sticks, but if you’re picky about your stick, you should definitely bring your own.

Arcades really are dying…

Would there be a commensurate increase in prize money or reduction of player entrance fees?

I think it’s a great Idea. People need to stop bitching if they dont have sticks, seeing as like 100’s of people will be there I doubt not one of them will lend you a stick.

i think the biggest problem is going to be hitting pause by accident, or “by accident during painting”. Some ground rules have to be set for situations like those. Also, there are some incompatibilities between MASS and Agetec sticks…whenever we have a mass on 2p and agetec on 1p, the game fucks up (the “please insert controller” screen keeps coming on and off).

But on the plus side, you can get direct feeds of the video straight from the console more easily, giving some higher quality vids for the evo dvds.

Since this hasn’t been mentioned yet…

A Supergun/SuperNova is essentially a device that allows you to play normal Jamma arcade boards on a normal NTSC television at home. It’s everything that you would find in an arcade cabinet, except compacted into a little box and configured for NTSC output. In otherwords, Supergun = Arcade 3S. For an example of a Supergun, check out the following page.

BTW… if any of you have opinions on the Soul Calibur II console version, please voice them at the following thread on soulcalibur.com:

As long as 3s is identical to the arcade version and this supergun/super stick thing has the arcade cabinet feel (ie. not playing with a mass stick on my lap while sitting on a couch) I am happy.

I think cabinets own consoles, they are so much more fun to play on and can take the force of fast joystick motions without sliding around all over the place, plus the angle of the buttons and height of the stool are great.

Well as long as it says it provides a real arcade feel then I don’t have anything esle to say but what about the Japanese players is there word of that yet. Thanx for clearing up the supergun/supernova thing I might have to cop one of those. I’m down w/just bringing my agetec I should have a costum stick by then why not have a stick contest again or something.

Fuck it.

well most people today should’ve gotten used to most console version of arcade games already. You cant goto the arcade everyday and just play the game for like 5hrs straight. But then again console could be good or bad , but well see this year at Evo2k4.
