U can jail-break ps3 now. Just sayin…
Hey, I can participate in these in a few years too! Or I suppose I can participate now and just throw the kid’s matches, kind of like this douchebag I know that used to partner with his gf at team tournaments.
<-- also wants to know what my brother Dez thinks about Tekken vs. SF
Hahhaha, Upstate SC: Home of TEAM BEARD!
Kyah… lol. you like my av? lmao… ahhh… memories. do you have that guitar hero chick one i made. i’m looking for some of my old av’s. i think i liked that one the best but i can’t find it.
man…
i’ll get into it a lil later. bottom line though, is that it’s great.
i’m up here in raleigh, nc for mlg. i don’t know how many of you guys have been following mlg but it is pretty dope. tons of free stuff man. TONS. it’s gamer heaven.
awesome avatar, jq. lol
the only thing free Dez is you in Tekken.

Yup. I also still have the Raging BobSmack Av - I almost changed to it the other day lol.
I’ve heard bad stuff about MLG. I’d like to hear your take on that as well.
just watch the tekken movie it was pretty good for what it was.
i see you’ve moved on to smoking a much higher grade of crack cocaine because there is no way this could possibly be true.
sf x tekken = good for the community.
most of us in here were born in the arcade culture so there is no line between us. 2d and 3d players that is. now, i have noticed that a DISTINCT line is growing between new/younger players. not that this line is anything new, i just think it has grown more distinct since both sets of players don’t to get to mix and mesh like they were forced to do on the arcade scene. 3d players bitch about sf being the “go to” game right now and killing t6, not so much the other way around. this will tempt 3d players to venture over since the characters will be familiar and some of the moves will too. just different inputs and stricter timing of course.
now as far as tekken x sf, who knows. namco/bandai drops the ball so much, i honestly have no clue what the fuck they are thinking 70% of the time. they put out games stateside with super delay, completely rape characters movelists for no reason and a bunch of other shit that i could ramble all day about.
all in all it’s a good move. i’m pretty sure capcom’s version will be more successful and this was a long overdue. i honestly didn’t think it would ever happen. had this been lets say 7 years earlier, it may have saved some arcades here and there.
kyah, what have you heard bad about mlg?
the new MK vids look awesome and I really like the potential I see in the Tag Team mode. Very dissappointed in the fact that apparently they are keeping Breakers. Hopefully there will be some tight limitations on useage…
Warning: diatribe coming:
I lol’d
I have mixed feelings about this. I literally grew up in the Anderson Mall arcade (as did Kevin, and Ted to some extent), yet I accepted a long time ago that there was no future for arcade gaming. I tried to convince Jordan to get rid of all his arcade equipment long, long ago b/c there was just no point anymore (and it’s going to get harder to get parts, and generally just harder to FIND PEOPLE to PLAY on machines) - this is where Jordan/Ted/Larry and I have never seen i2i. I feel like we all have to move on, although I enjoy playing on arcade machines just as much as everyone, if not more.
Now that being said, there’s always been a “go-to” game in the arcade culture - it was generally whatever was the newest at the time. Some people (like yourself ;p) just didn’t choose to play them, but for me, the day that Street Fighter EX2 showed up was just as exciting as the day that Beastorizer showed up (at least for about 10 minutes in the case of the latter), and THAT was what kept us all traveling around.
And if we didn’t get it at Jolly Time/Pocket Change/Outer Limits, we DROVE TO IT:
Closest SFEX2+ machine? North Dekalb Mall, I believe.
Ehrgeiz? The Petro station on north 85 between the SC border and the Athens exit.
UMK3, when it first came out? We drove to a movie theater on 123 in Seneca to play that beta. DAILY!!!
And my personal favorite? BloodStorm - closest machine (2 of them), Six Flags over Georgia. Yes, I paid the admission - twice.
I remember when Charlotte used to get beta tests all the time, and it seemed like it was nothing to road trip out there a few weekends a month. The thing about it all now is that the “newer” gamers have the luxury of picking up a new game without even leaving the house in some cases, so they have more time to play and they wear these games out so fast that there always needs to be a new “go-to” game to keep their interests, instead of a new “go-to” game to get excited about. Our culture (sadly) died long ago, and P2P became HCI practically overnight.
All that aside, I agree with you - I think that both versions are going to be good, my main concern is that for once the market might actually get flooded kind of like the GH/RB market got hella flooded last year, and people will play one or the other and not both. I suppose as long as the companies keep putting out fighting games (see new MK), then people like us will still keep playing them.
As far as MLG goes, my opinion might be unjustified - it seems like there was some scandal involving them not paying out prize money a few years back, but I may have that confused with something else. That’s what old age will do to you.
Speaking of old guys, Ted and I on an MK tag team = undefeat-able. Bet it
Oh, and we’re having a boy in case anyone cares/didn’t see my fb.
yea i dont like the breakers either but the game does look very good. mk1 was the first tournament game i ever played in so i am very interested in a good mk again.
Dez i completly agree with you. i hated the fact that when tekken and vf came out they killed the 2d scene because i love 2d and 3d fighters but i am happy that street hurt the 3d ones. I am a old school soul calibur and tekken fan but both of those games have done nothing that good in years. Tekken Dr was good but 6 fell like a step back. SC2 was awsome but 3 and 4 where infrerior so hopefully with the success of ssf4 3d fighting game makers will relize what makes these games awesome.
good characters with interesting move lists and interesting to play and watch.
3d games just tried to do to much stupid shit from ground bounces to critical finishes instead of making an enjoyable fast pased game that newbies can get into but that a long term player can own at.
my dream is that in 2012 i will be playing the following excellent games
Tekken vs sf
sf vs tekken
Kof13
SSF4
MK9
MVC3
and god willing a great Soul Calibur 5
we can go on a 5 year drought after that i dont care because i will be happy playing those for a long long time.
Filldoh I need ur number, can u pm it to me
The debate…
There is no replacing the Arcade culture and I loved every minute of it (except for taking long trips only to find no one playing)…
For me there was always a trip to somewhere to play the new game. When MK2 came out (I was in Pocket Change in Anderson the day the first MK2 machine was unpacked), I fell in love with fighting games on that day. Kyah and I have travelled from Atlanta to Dunnellon, NJ and several stops between to play games and see what other competition looks like. There will never be another experience quite like it…
Console has taken some time for me to get comfortable with but it is the ONLY way now and I don’t mind it too much especially with on-line improvements that have been made in just the past three years, I can actually play again.
I love my arcade machines and though I still occasionally consider selling them, I know i can’t replace KI, MK2 or UMK3 truly on any console (there are differences in every version they try and release) and some games just feel good on a cabinet. Oh, did I mention I picked up a phoenixed Night Warriors! I love that game!
The only game that I prefer over cabinet is mvc2. BUT now I prefer all games on console bc of stick preference. I’ve played scenes in NY, NorCal, Seattle, Colorado, Florida, NC, Virginia, and all over. Thanks to my job. I’ll drive a 24’ Ryder rentall truck to a house gathering in a heart beat. That’s how much I love fighting games. And bc of it, I have friends here there and everywhere.
yea the arcade scene will always be one of the best times of my life, from mk2 to sfa to sc1 the arcades where awesome. online is great too but there is just something about having a cab.
got some bad news this week i found out i have a hernia(probably from carring arcade cabs) so that sucks. 1st operation here we come, i am going to try to wait until the end of the year but dam it sucks getting old. i just turned 33 two weeks ago and already i am breaking down. Well who cares as long as my hands are good i can still kick ass with GIEF!!!
i am still hoping i can make it monday john, just depends on if the wife has plans.
Word, make it happen. Be the man of the house.
It’s not as bad as it seems - I had one myself once when I was in high school, got the surgery, haven’t had any issues since. I have a gazillion back problems and have spent two weeks in a recliner due to them OLD MEN FTW!
GGs Ted. My Ryu definitely needs some work. Btw I am now a stick player for better or worse. Not 100% comfortable with it yet but i’m getting there.
