I wasn’t able to be there for that one. He ran it on a odd day I had to work. No it will not be ran in that cramp ass space lol. I’ve personally already talked to the people that work and own the place If I could have the main floor on that day. They said it will be no problem! So we will be able to breath! So plenty of arm room and place to chill! So we are good to go on the main floor!

any missing do you guys think?
Well i got a quick question. I need to know a lil more about MK. Is there any characters banned from this game and two who would happen to have all the characters unlocked?
The DLC characters (Skarlet, Kenshi, Rain, Freddy) should ALWAYS be banned (that’s the way it should be in ANY game unless they are free, b/c they are dependent on the player (a) having internet and (b) making a purchase). Believe it or not, I know at least one person that doesn’t have the DLC b/c he has never hooked his PS3 up to the internet. Kratos is also banned because he’s console specific if you are using the PS3 version. The other characters are all fine. The only characters that you need to unlock are Cyber Sub Zero and Quan Chi, but someone needs to do that in advance b/c it takes a looooooong time to go through story mode.
EDIT: Also if you are using the PS3 version, Kratos’ stage is also banned - the screen shakes when you are on it, and if you aren’t used to it (i.e.: if you only play the XBox version and have never been to a tournament, etc.), then it gives your opponent an unfair advantage.
EDIT AGAIN: By that same logic, you should be banning Shuma and Jill. However, you should not ban any of the AE characters, since there was also a disc release.
the only problem i have with this logic is if you are going to ban characters because of a person not going online then what about patches? I personally dont mind them being banned because as a TO myself it is easier but after a certain amount of time of them being out i dont see a problem with them. even if you dont buy them you still will play them several times online, i mean hell how many times have you faced a kensin online. i rarely play and i still see him.
by the way chris i am trying to make it to this and if i do you can count on me to bring a setup and i have all the characters.
cool dude! I hope to see you there!
Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I’m fighting Kan where you have to be him with lu kang. how much further do i have? lol
That’s the beauty of the argument - gameplay balancing patches are put there by the developers as a “preferred requirement,” meaning they’re essentially making it our responsibility to make sure that the game is as close to what they want as possible - they are “necessary” to fulfill the full experience, and they are 100% free. DLC characters are extraneous - they aren’t necessary. If player A doesn’t get on the internet, that puts him at a disadvantage if he doesn’t have the patches, but at that point, it’s on the player, not on you. You can’t make that same argument with DLC. Patches are free, DLC is not You essentially have someone else to blame at that point.
@Chris - there are 14 scenarios, I think. You get a cheevo/trophy for getting halfway through, which is Jade’s IIRC.
I disagree patches and DLC are the same the only difference is cost. you are saying if they dont have the patches it is on the player but if they dont have the dlc then it is unfair. DLC characters are also what the developers consider “preferred requirement.” they are usually characters they have on the disk anyway and you just have to unlock them with a key(shuma and Jill)
If your only objection is cost, what about people that cant get broadband where they live(there are still areas, there are several in spartanburg) they cant get the patches so they are at a disadvantage, so that is on the player but the guy wont shell out $10 for a couple characters is in the right?
What is $10 when you are paying $30 for a venue fee and another $10 per game to go to a big tournament,
this is kind of a silly argument anyway because what player do you know that is hardcore enough to go to a tournament but is not going to get every new character that comes along.
it’s more about tournament ethics than anything. you use those rules because those are the rules that the majors use. its a standard. if you are running tournaments in your community, you want the players in your community to be use to the rules when they travel outside of the area to compete.
100% agree with you, i was just stating an opinion on the rule i am not saying we should deviate from it. I do think the rules will be lighted up over time as most are based off of rules from the old arcade scene that we all know and grew up with. DLC is the present and future and i dont see it slowing down. if you look at UMVC3 where we could have 10+ DLC characters(just a personal feeling capcom will milk it) by the time the next evo rolls around i would find it hard to believe that they will ban them. The only reason i think they banned the MK9 ones is they where not out for very long and they didnt want to have the random factor.

Let me simplify the argument a little bit. Forget about the “I don’t have internet” piece of it for the following 2 points:
-
Developers release a free patch to improve on game play or fix bugs. This is how they intend for the game to be played from that point forward. If you are going to go compete in a tournament, we as tournament directors can (fairly) say that we expect you to have the patch. We can even put that in the rules, and usually, we do. We have a legitimate argument - it is free, therefore we can expect you to be familiar with it. Fair.
-
“Hey Phil, I expect you to pay $14.95 so that you can be familiar with the characters that I’m going to allow at this tournament. If you don’t, that’s your own fault. Guess you shouldn’t have bought that extra 4 gallons of gas.” You’re now forcing someone to spend additional money to be able to fairly compete. Not fair.
Now, the only reason you can sort-of get away with the internet argument is b/c chances are if someone is going to compete in a tournament, they’re already serious enough about it to be playing online. That’s still not totally, 100% fair, but we can bend the rules a little there because of the state of the gaming community and the role the internet plays.
Your UMvC3 argument doesn’t work, because it’s the same as the AE argument - at that point you’re putting a different name on the game, and that name comes with 10 new characters, therefore if you’re going to compete in that name’s tournament, you are expected to be familiar with said characters. Otherwise, you’d be playing in an MvC3 tournament, not a UMvC3 tournament.
Finally, none of my arguments are silly All it takes is one salty Darth Vader/Yoda/Link/Heihachi/Spawn loss, and your tournament is ruined. Surely you of all people have experienced that?
Kyah sorry If I started something here… haha.
Corner Trapa hey!!! Shame Shame on you posting ELITE ZONE in here on the day of my tourney, lol. Now If I wasn’t holding one I wouldn’t mind then hahaha. Sorry If I’m stealing some of your spot light homie! I’m just trying to do my own thing here. : D
yea console exclusive ones have and always be dumb. as far as the UMVC3 argument i mean there will probably be another 10+ after the game is out not including the ones announced.
I know you want to hold on to the old ways(i do to most of the time) but i think times will change, it is kind of like how 3xP and 3xK is able to be a binded button now because of the default config. in the past even if it was default you would have to change it but now it is accepted, hell there is even a dash button in mcv3. times are changing and i think this is one area it will change.
quick question for anyone that knows, in Call of Duty tournaments do they allow the DLC map packs?
Only if they are free. See the above argument
Hey guys I hope you all that are coming to Summer Wars on Saturday are pumped! I know I am. looks like a pretty good turn out. I don’t know how many to expect but… I’d honestly say well over 25 people… lol. Maybe even more than 30 i guess. I can’t wait! I’m so excited
