Tested the unblockable last night with John Choi… we were able to get it about 1/5 times or so. The timing is so strict that it’s impossible to get consistently unlike the Ryu/Ken unblockable which is much more lenient.
Not sure how practical this would be in real play.
kineda - which one did you test? f.throw -> dash -> c.mk -> jf.hk? or f.throw -> dash -> c.mp -> jf.mk?
Will be going into the lab today to test both. At the very worst they will be tricky crossups. Also going to work on safejump df.palm OS demon (for Abel / Balrog) and instant meaty air-fb / non-instant meaty air fb on wakeup. Lots to learn!
Got a couple of questions, was messing around with Ryu.
Read fwd throw, st.HK, HK Divekick is cool to stuff his reversals, my question is: do I have to delay the dive kick to the very last moment, or it has to be done at the peak of the jump? I can’t seem to beat him with this.
Also, @ ShinAkuma: was taking a look at your anti-Ryu setup (nice vid btw, you raped that Ryu), do you use MK or HK for the Demon Flip, after the MP SRK FADC LP Fireball? From your previous vid it looked like MK, but here it seemed like HK. Also, just as above, do you do the dive kick at the peak?
It’s funny how I can’t get this stuff to work even having damn videos, god…
I think it has to be HK DF and the dive kick done when you’re just above his head. I did this to a (really bad) Ken player a few days ago… I think I got it like 3 or 4 times in a row where I did HK DF Dive Kick, he’d reversal DP which would whiff as I landed behind him, I’d sweep him (peak range), HK DF Dive Kick again, whiff, sweep, etc…
You can do it to Ryu as well, but I believe that either he or Ken (or Akuma for that matter) can do the DP as late as possible so that it autocorrects and stuffs you. In fact, I tried against a Ryu player who did jus that, then FADC Ultra 1… I guess that’s what I get for being cocky!
After a demonflip, all that matters is if we hit a punch/kick/throw, right? To clarify, HK demonflip -> hit LP is identical to HK DF -> hit MP / FP? Am pretty sure this is the case but confirmation would be great.
Sometimes when going for DF throw nothing comes out and Akuma just does the sweep. Any potential reasons for this? Any tips on landing DF throw would be nice.
Regardless of where the opponent is, does LK/MK/FK always have the exact same predetermined trajectory? Again, I think this is true but would like to confirm.
Vs Zangief, can we crossup tatsu (HK) him on wakeup and stuff his Lariat? I do this consistently with Ryu and assume it is possible with Akuma, but I end up trading a lot.
Also, what are the requirements for DF-Divekick to stuff his wakeup Lariat? Do I need to make sure that I am right above his head before hitting the divekick? Again, unfavorably trading here and would like to know why I’m messing up.
Is DF -> throw / “mashing” Shoryuken still good vs Zangief and Abel? Saw some Youtube videos on this and would like to make sure its still relevant.
Finally, when we OS Demon off a palm, do we need to hit punch 2 or 3 times? (One punch for the palm)
True, there are no different palms, it’s all PUNCH input.
You probably are throwing too late, after the window for throwing.
True, it’s a set distance.
VS zangief, i don’t know
Don’t know this one either
That’s what we refer to as an ‘option select’ (you can look it up on these forums) and it doesn’t work anymore, because in Super, akuma’s demon flip throw has a bit of recovery after whiffing it.
You press 2 punches, but the first one is the one needed for palm. So the input would be: f,d,df, K (input for demonflip) , lp (input for palm) , lp , back+lk+hp
In the middle of the huge matchup stuff discussion that people had inside the video thread, there were a lot of anti Ryu setup discussed. I would really appreciate if anybody took the time to breakdown many of these setups, explain them to the lazier players around here (myself included, eh?) and then, if possible, add them to the matchup thread here.
It seems Akumas game is more and more evolving to a bunch of new setups, especially in the corner. Tokido throws guys all around, dashes, presses a different button each time and goes for jumping attacks. I never know if hes messing around trying to fake the opponent to believe thats a setup or if that its actually a setups. I almost also never know if these setups are character specific, which would explain why he presses a different button each time i see a knew video, or if the button pressed is what determines if he will land in front or behind them. What i usually see is him using the j.lk to land in front of the opponent and j.hk and j.mk to land it behind them. Which, without the buttons pressed, would have the same ending, thats why sometimes i think the whiffed normals are sometimes setups and sometimes illusions.
tatsu, into light dp, after that hold up forward o/s demonflip light kick.
result
if ryu quick wakeup, akuma gets ambigous lk that lands in the front.
if ryu stay down, o/s demon flip kick will get a free crossup.
grab at corner = unblockable
also that ambiguous setup can be done from.
after light tatsu, cmp instant hold up forward.
backgrab gets the same situation.
combo into heavy tatsu.
heavy uppercut seems possible as well.(unsure)
after sweep whiff lp, jump lk (unsure)
after air grab dash in once whiff something i forget. they all do the ambiguous jump lk. and jump mk crossup. (unsure)
once opponent is scared of these setup empty jump into clk combo works wonders!
