Updated SSF4 Akuma Matchup Thread (2011)

:coffee: never posted anything in Akuma forums but been passing by here n there…Akuma players are giving Deejay the character too much credit…When Deejay was introduced in SF4 series I felt the same way like you “like what can I do?” AKUMA is not free to Deejay, Deejay players usually think that lol…You have to play with a good ground game and evasive style of play and be random at times, don’t demon flip alot unless u delay the dive kick or for baiting Deejay kicks that have priority --use palm pressure intelligently–you have to play lame againist him if he is a good Deejay meaning play fireball game, focus absorb his fb’s to get good spacing then sweep any whiffed moves and DP at all times on jump ins and if he cross’es you up juz teleport out of there what can he do, nothing! then repeat the process watch out for ex moves—mainly play this match up with good spacing (patience) and anti air game as well as fireball pressure and punish deejay for knockdown potential and if your vortex game is good use it but be careful----here is a old video of me fighting a good Deejay I have lvl alot since this video so my understanding of how to fight Deejay is better so in this video shows what not to do and what to do in this particular match-up b/c really in the end this match up is pretty cut & dry

Deejay … I don’t even bother to tatsu sweep that Cool Runnings reject. His AA is too good.

Well as of now I tatsu sweep for knock down (b/c i trust my vortex game) this cool running reject lol but then i demon flip palm to bait him for punish or I reposition myself spacing wise, Deejay match up is straight forward once I realized how to beat him

If you guys are having problems with Deejays upkicks then you need to practice and understand your setups more.

Not sure if this is a viable method against Dhalsim but I found out that if Sim likes to EX Yoga Blast your demon flip kicks/throws/palms, the Demon Flip slide hitbox will never be touched by the yoga blast and Sim gets knocked down.

If your demon flip palm is meaty then you will land safely. No reason to use slide as it is too unsafe on block. The only time you should be cautious of trying a demonflip palm safe jump or any safejump that lands in front of Sim is when he has U1 stocked.

will meaty palm stuff his ex yoga blast? or is it just a safejump. What can you do to punish after?

No. Ex yoga blast has invincibility frames, so it cant be stuffed. However yoga blast has a very high hitbox and 5 startup frames, so by the time you land you are free to punish anyway you choose.

I’ve played Da Knut Forever and I’ve always come close to beating him once or twice, but the matches tend to drag out and, sadly, Akuma’s Health < Dee Jay’s Health so in a war of attrition where you have to wait for your chances, he usually wins. The last time I played him, I was SOOOOOO confident that my safe palm setups would win me a match, but he just blew me up by throwing, teching and generally defeating every attempt I made at a safe setup that I had to resort to turtling again… Don’t get me wrong, against “decent” to “mediocre” Dee Jay’s, I don’t necessarily have a problem.

But the really good ones like Da Knut… Well, that’s another story. What I really hate is his EX Sobat kick because even if I throw very few fireballs at irregular intervals, it seems he can always tag me with one at the most inoportune time. I mean, I’ll throw ONE fireball at what I think is a safe distance, it’s just about to hit him and he does an EX Sobat that goes through it and hits me on the last frames of my recovery. Man that shit is beastly!! NEEEEEEEEEEEERFFF!!

In the Ken matchup, what are some solid options for blocked EX Tatsu? Furthermore, when teching Ken’s kara throw, is it better to catch with a normal LP+LK throw or is Akuma’s kara throw a little more efficient?

Cr.Tech lk+lp. His kara throw adds another frame to his normal throw so its a 4fr throw. So I would tech it later than a regular 3fr throw. Someone correct me if i’ve just made a dumazz out of myself. I myself don’t think you would want to push yourself forward to kara tech throw his throw, also you’d have to stand up which leads to cr.forward punish up the butt.

As far as the blocked EX tatsu goes, it’s all about reading the other player sadly =(…either late cr.tech or DP if you have 2 bars…

i play him regularly.
mix in the command dive kick to beat out his slides.
he likes to stand 3/4 screen when he’s fishing for an ex sobat.
on wake-up most of his options will get beat out by a meaty.
teleport out of his stupid knee mixup.
CH setups beat him, he’s a generally more defensive player and likes to c.tech.
don’t jump in unless you have him mindfucked.

aside from that i have to play the stupid fireball game until he gets antsy =[
suuuper patient match.

I’m wondering how long it took u guys to learn the ssf4 matchups against all chars.

@C2Q: Forever.

btw, anyone can share thoughts regarding AE blanka matchup?

its been ages since i last played good blanka.

my opponent is pretty much reacting to what i am doing.

if i jump he AA with either c.mp or jump hp
if i fireball(even though i took notice on the range) he slides, due to AE recovery of the slide its really hard to judge the slide distance now my poor judgement cause me a couple of unnecessary knockdown from blanka slide.

the trouble however starts when.
blanka jump in hk (insanely hard to dp[i suck at dp too]) into lp, electric into hop shenanigans.

i tried crouch teching but seems to blow me up. coz my crouch tech will whiff as blanka gets behind me and he will get a free grab.
(heard c.mp crouch tech will be better off against blanka that true?)

on the offensive…
i don’t know what to do pretty much…but i like to get close after knockdown and tries to do c.lk into traps. and if blanka chooses to reversal upball i will punish accordingly with sweep or demon. its like i will take upball damage in order to sweep him down again.

but apart from that i don’t know what to do.

plenty of other matchup i am confused.

i just realised some of the AE character that got nerfed got minibuffed as well. especially guile…though damage got nerfed his charge time went from 60fr to 55fr to 49fr now. which is really insane imo, no wonder its so hard to jump on guile now(not that its recommended in the beginning however)

DEEJAY talk and other important info

If I ever play on xboxlive again—the arcade I played at, they stop using fiber opitics, they have crap internet speed now  I will show you some things I do play on psn…can you play on psn?? What I come to realize as you progress in skill with Akuma. What begins too take place with much focus; your footsie game/frame-trap ground game must get better and catch up with your execution game/setup game…I see Akumas can hit some links but there footsie/spacing game is not good and generally THERE VORTEX game is not good either :nono:…I’m speaking more recently b/c I have leveled up alot and my vortex is good (i like where I’m going with my character) when I play Akumas online either on xbox or xbl I see this trend alot where Akumas play like ryu if that makes any sense even high lvl bp players…Anyways venom your akuma will get even better and skillful when your footsie game catches up too everything else you have learned too this point as well as learning the art of “demon flip” mix ups :coffee:

Old video—embodies some of the things i mentioned—I hope i will play on XBL soon in time for the AE dlc and online upgrades hmmm??

So… is the recentely posted (on EventHubs) unblockable (corner, forward throw, dash, cr.MP, jump MK) against Guile legit?

God, I hope so. I’ve been having trouble with a Guile player lately. Speaking of which, anyone have any good tips against him? Here’s my experience with the match.

The Guile I’m fighting is more of an aggressive player, chasing down his sonic booms and trying to get me as I try to squirm away from them. I find it hard to jump in on him at any time because he of course has solid anti airs.

Also, when it comes down to vortex what are the best options? I know flash kick is easy enough to beat if I cross him up, but that usually only nets me a sweep unless maybe I’m being lazy and I can get a full jump in. Are there any specific option selects for this match?

Need to go test that Guile setup to see if it’s a true unblockable. Supposedly Tokido has a different setup that also works:

“Also I saw Tokido did a different timing setup @ TOPANGA tourny against Yoshiwo Guile , he uses cr.mk and jf.hk instead of c.mp jf.mk”

Yep, noticed that one too, but didn’t know if it is just a crossup with j.HK, this has to be tested.

that meaty j.hk comes with o/s demon as well i reckon or o/s demon flip. cr.mk is just timer issue.
