*UPDATED!*"Quit lecturing me and show me what you've got!"- The UMvC3 Zero Video Thread

We’re not sure. No one with the execution to test it has played any of the test builds (or at least they haven’t posted about it). Video footage suggests the shadow’s moves come out sooner after Zero’s moves than in vanilla though which might make it impossible.

Yeah, I was watching the gamescon stream on youtube the other day…I couldn’t stop shaking my head at that Zero

the lightning loop is still possible. why wouldn’t it be, the only difference zero has is the level 3 blaster is soft knockdown, no change on his lightning attack…but, not sure if it’s worth learning. I prefer to just to go for another mixup and learning other mixups, instead of having my hand cripple, lol

Well… DLoop is not possible anymore for “no apparent reason”…

People is saying that the shadow is acting more quickly (ie, interval between zero’s and shadow moves are smaller) during sougenmu and that’s what makes dloop not possible anymore, if the interval between the two lightning bolts of the raikousens become smaller there may be not enough time to link multiple raikousens together.

Here’s some stuff I’ve been doing w/ Zero for a couple of months. Decided to finally make a combo/team synergy video lol. From the best Zero player in florida here you go guys. Enjoy

I’ve done a gameplay commentary of a match I played in the winners final of a tournament. I’m a Zero player so this might be of some use to some people.

It mostly explains strategies, my thought process and some gameplay mechanics (this was originally aimed at friends of mine who are trying to get in the game and how to get good at it so there may be some stuff that you are already aware of)

Here’s some footage of my Zero from a tournament this weekend, was actually streamed so they caught my elusive Zero on camera. Check it out:

Really good matches. Zero is looking good. Any particular reason you have Dormammu second instead of Dante?

I win a lot of matches off X factor level 3 Dante… all you have to do is guard cancel out of someone’s block string, kill them, then do the acid rain mixups on entry. He’s so god damn fast, it’s really hard to block, you can easily win an entire match on that without them getting to fight back. I also like the Zero > Dormammu DHC ender, if I kill them with it I still get a ball on top of them and get to go for an unblockable as they come in, plus you get sougenmou > chaotic flame for assist punishes… even though I never do it lol. It really works both ways though. Oh and Stalking Flare > Devil Trigger is kinda dirty too.

Might as well pitch in:

From last weeks WNF. Plenty of footage of me in parts 2 and a little of 3 all the way up to winners finals and grand finals vs. combofiend.

Also, here’s my take on where Zero stands in terms of character rankings

  1. Phoenix
  2. Wolverine
  3. Wesker
  4. Zero

Wolverine requires less strategy than Zero to set up his kills. Not to mention you could get away with being one dimensional more often with wolverine than zero.

I’ll also be sure to test out the lightning loop if i make it out to the LA fight club on Thursday.

Good shit on the WNF stuff. I remember seeing you on the KayoPolice video the japanese film crew put together… think you were like 2 matches after me lol.

You probably know this but if She-Hulk does 2H into launcher on block, you can push block the 2H and then whiff punish the launcher really easy with Zero or Task. Also saw CF breaking your air throw attempts whenever he went for mighty swing, I think if you delay your air throw just slightly you’ll throw him out of the j.H startup, if you know he’s just going to break the throw every time. That team looks like ass to fight for Zero. All the characters have retarded health and kill him in one combo lol. I don’t really have any advice for fighting Spencer… I don’t have any idea what the hell that character is doing most of the time

Yeah, I’m pretty aware of the 2H stuff. But I play Combo on a regular basis and he almost always has it covered w/ arrows to throw off my timing. We also have a very good feel of each others air throw game as you could tell throughout winners finals. I’ll also say that he has the late tech off the mighty swing timed PERFECTLY. So throwing him out of it no matter what timing i use is pretty damn hard. If anything, attempting the throw is just to insure i don’t give him a free mixup after.

But yeah, one of the reasons Combo’s team matches up so well with mine is simply because he can kill my characters in one shot and I can’t do the same to his without burning x factor. Against most other people who use that team or similar teams, Zero will do just fine since I have a billion mixup options upon landing a clean hit into a full combo. But in the case of fighting someone with actual defense and a safe offensive game like Combofiend, it’s pretty bad since he can kill you off of landing a hit in any situation.

The Spencer fight really isn’t all that bad so long as you remember a few principles.

  1. try to keep the high ground if you’re not a full screen away. This is crucial against Spencers who like to crossup with assists while you’re grounded. And I try to keep my position at about 45 degrees to maximize buster efficiency and to avoid diagonal grappling hooks.
  2. stay in his face when you get there.
  3. Try to keep a level 3 stocked if possible
  4. don’t normal jump at combofiend’s spencer (which i did multiple times anyway)

Have you thought of switching to an assist to take the projectiles out vs him? Like Doom beam or Tron or something just to give you cover? He seems like he relies on the task master assist a lot, think it’d be a lot easier if you didn’t have to worry about that aspect. I mean obviously it’s not that simple vs someone like combofiend but I do think Tron could handle that setup pretty well.

Tron and Haggar type assists don’t really work quite as effectively against combofiend or any player who played MvC2 for 10+ years (Baiting invincible invincible anti air is just something that comes naturally to us). Doom beam causes a soft knockdown and ruins potential followup options for my style of play. There are a lot of reasons I have taskmaster. Along with being the most damaging assist in the game, he’s also fast enough to be effective and also not too fast to prevent the opponent from reacting. One thing I want my opponent to do is to react and do something when they see taskmaster so i can exploit whatever their habits are.

Against combofiend however, I have been considering going Wesker/Zero/Iron Man unibeam assist since last week. I do sacrifice a 3rd fighter which is always a big risk vs. him, but i get added damage bonus to wesker full combos as well as a more effective pindown option w/ both zero and wesker. So we’ll see.

I think Magneto, Phoenix, Dante, Wolverine and Wesker are all better than Zero (in practical terms). Also, in terms of matchups Zero can have lots of problems against Taskmaster and Doom. If you have amazing mixups and hit confirms that consistently lead into 1 mil+ dmg, sure Zero is just as good as these other chars. More often than not, in actual match play Zero can lose half his life in a few seconds just from chip, and “advanced” assist relaunch BnBs do about 800k, which will leave all those chars still alive (whereas Zero can be one shotted by all of them by relatively easy combos).

hey! just thought it would be worth mentioning that logan, phoenix, and wesker will be nerf in ultimate, which means zero will go up in the tier list, yayyyyyy. unless firebrand destroys him or somethin.

got 3rd in a decent size tourney, represent zero, :D. I love it when people give the expression after they lose to a zero move.

I get “fuck Zero” SO much at tournaments. I love it man. Especially when it’s coming from Wolverine players haha (I think this recent tournament I was at was like 90% wolverine teams… god damnit)

I think I got a great conversation with someone spectating about wolverine

spectator: "does wolverine take any skill"
me: "look at his controller inputs"
spectator: “oh…I’m going to watch the dante player”

lmao

I also heard magneto has a slower triangle jump, is this true???

What changes have been made to zero in umvc3 besides level three buster knockdown? faster rekkouha, whats up with that, and I can’t believe or I don’t understand why capcom would change his shadow super, why would capcom do that??? did people start to complain it, lol. I ask zero mains because you guys know him better then people using him the 1st time at evo.

I never get complaints about zero because most people who are scrubby enough to complain about him never get past my wesker anyway. =)

…best zero in florida huh? lmao nigga please.
