UMvC3 changes for Zero
Final part of my MVC3 gameplay commentary featuring Zero. (you’re welcome to comment about my gameplay still if there’s something I’ve missed out)
Since wnf had power issues, i guess this would pretty much be my final mvc3 tournament performance until ultimate:
Me vs. Justin at Devastation. I’m thinking of editing it later on in the coming weeks to include commentary and walkthrough of the entire match.

What happened at 6:23?
You dominated the third match and after the happy birthday in the fourth I tough you could win, too bad for that raw tag in the last match! I was rooting for you, good matches.
Do you prefer to use Zero or Wesker against Wolvie? Imo Zero has a better matchup but i see that in the last game you didn’t switched to him after killing She-Hulk.
6:23 was supposed to be a rekkoha, but was a small execution error. I wasn’t really sweating it though because I still had a comfortable lead and I was content with grinding it out. Zero/Task vs. Akuma w/o x factor leaves me with a lot of room for error as long as I stick to the gameplan.
If I plan on sticking with the matchup straight up, I definitely prefer Zero against Wolverine. The main strength of Wesker/Zero is in the matchup overlap. Wesker’s two worst matchups imo are Wolverine and Doom, both of which I feel Zero wins. Zero can zone wolverine in more positions and situations and essentially force him to guess with a beserker slash or superjump at a trajectory which allows me to easily reposition myself.
Compare that to Wesker who can only really zone wolverine when both our backs are touching the edge of the screen. If I have wesker and wolverine isn’t full screen away, I either need to be attacking him (which is ridiculously risky if he has akuma or tron assist like most wolverine players do) or immediately repositioning myself to not get berserker slashed. And in most cases, my best repositioning option isn’t always safe.
However, there are many instances when I love starting Wesker vs. Wolverine. Let’s say I’m running Wesker/Zero/Task vs. Wolverine/Wesker/Akuma. I ran this matchup a lot with Noel at Combo’s house and when we start with this matchup, it has an interesting dynamic. In most cases, Wolverine will land the first hit. And when he does, most Wolverine players are going to pop X-factor to kill Wesker on instinct. Of course, why not? Wesker is the most dangerous level 3 x factor character on the team. So logic says kill him first. But now what happened? Wolverine is now forced to succeed in the subsequent mixup on zero or else he’ll find himself at a pretty bad disadvantage. Let’s say I avoid the incoming mixup, i can now play the wolverine vs. zero matchup straight up and be content with just grinding him out. Or if wolverine rushes recklessly, he finds himself running into a falling H, which allows me to kill Wolverine. And at this point in time, he killed Wesker so I should be starting a combo with at least 2.5 bars, meaning I don’t need X factor to kill Wolverine. Now I suddenly find myself at an even bigger advantage. I have X factor level 2 which i can use at any time, and a favorable matchup.
But other than that, Wesker/Wolverine is a matchup I would rather avoid.
At around 2:55 you got hit by a really predictable corner setup that could have been avoided easily. You seemed to brush over it although it put you at an even bigger disadvantage. I usually use his teleport dash soon as I get an opening or try an advancing guard on the first hit. Another option would be to x-factor guard cancel which could turned the tide quickly. It doesn’t always work but its a high risk/high reward kinda thing. In that situation he had already called an assist so it would have been a good opportunity to do so. At 4:00 you x-factored to protect yourself which is good but you got defensive when you had the opportunity to overwhelm her with Dark Wesker. Maybe its was nerves IDK. I also noticed that you have a habit of mashing S during block strings without being covered. Good players will punish that even though Wesker’s launcher is like -1 on block. His standing H is +2 on block so it gives plenty of time to teleport and negate advancing guard. I also recommend trying to zone anyone using Saddam Hseinko’s assist and baiting her out.
I was hearing that Wesker’s S was pretty safe (bar X-factor and some supers) but mashing S is a force of habit of mine and i will try to avoid that in future.
I don’t think Zero’s teleport could go through Jam session at all as it was already out. I probably could’ve teleported as soon as Zero touched the ground though.
I’m defensive when I X-factored Wesker because Gold Hsien-ko is difficult to mess with as I can either shoot bullets at her or try to throw or command throw. However, nerves may have also kicked in as I had the health lead and small timer left so didn’t want to do anything risky.##
Thx for ur comments though!
Ive had worse matches. The big deal with mashing S is you lose the momentum. After weskers s.H you can cancel that with a low gunshot and teleport safely away if you call an assist before the gunshot you have the chance for another mixup. Its really good too because if the assist hits it will push them into your attack if it doesnt hit then youre safe. That mixup at the begininning of the second match was pretty sick. Its good for characters who are in the air alot.
its been awhile since i posted matches of me but i thought i put some up… feedback is greatly appreciated.
hokage do you live in florida, we could get some matches in.
yea i live in florida… you should come out to our option select stream on mondays to get some games in

A little late to the party but I finally learned how to Raikousen - Shot - Raikousen - Setsuizan. Its nothing new but its a big accomplishment for me to do this since the first time I saw this done, I was like omgwtfbbq.

Was messing around in the lab yesterday just trying to find some new tech i could use. Came up with this nice teleport into medium lightning crossup with ammy. Also some did some air resets going into the air after a launcher and using light or medium attacks and dropping the combo following that into a light, medium, or heavy lightning special. Since the lightning ambigiously crosses up if zero passes through your body its really hard to determine which way to block. I also did some buster hit confirms into shadow super for some pretty good damage. Works anywhere as long as you can get them with a level 3 buster which is pretty good. Hope this gives you guys some ideas also.

A bunch of other matches from the Comboratory. I’m probably going to take some of these matches and dub over commentary eventually within the next few weeks. But for now, enjoy!

A lot of useful stuff guys, really good for someone whos just picking up zero, Keep it up!
I attended EXPCon over the weekend and had a 20+ minute set with FlashMetroid. I cut out some of the sloppier matches so I don’t look as scrubby. Sorry the camera is a bit shaky, someone recorded it for me and there were a lot of people walking around and what not.

Hey guys so yesterday I competed in a tourney at Daytona Beach Florida. Was wondering if you guys would like to critique my gameplay and tell me what I did right and wrong etc and what I should keep on doing or stop doing etc. Luckily I made 2nd which is very humbling. Also in grand finals I feel like I lost because I kept running into haggar or doing the buster-> lightning when there was no hit confirm with the buster on my opponent. Well I hope you guys like the footage. I’ll post times of when I’m playing. Here’s the stream link. I am also the Zero, Ammy, Phoenix player by the way.
MvC3 footage starts at 55min for those interested in watching the whole top 8.
Me playing:
1hr 04mins-1hr 10mins: 1st match
1hr 39mins-1hr 47mins: 2nd match
1hr 58mins-part 2 (lol) Loosers finals.
I also play from the beginning of part 2 till MvC3 ends. Enjoy
