*** UPDATED *** OFFICIAL 5 on 5 3S USA VS JAPAN "THE REMATCH"

but you over him easily…hm

anyway, all the top players should play in the 16 man tournament–it would be the most fair.

if its not a 16 man tournament it should be a group thing. pick 3 groups of 5 or 4 groups of 4 people. if thats too time consuming, cut the number down to 12 people or so. this happens for every soccer world cup. do you think brazil or argentina gets a freeby into the world cup? nope, they have to qualify just as well. funny how we praise the SF scene as being so fair and being all about the gamers. its the beautiful part of it…everyone has for the most part a fair shot. its ridiculous that given the “prestige” of creating the U.S. team, we’re ignoring the principles upon which the scene is founded upon.

given the short notice, we should try to make entry into this 5 man honorable team fair for all the top players.

so…have the “team captains” be in different groups.

Group A-
Justin

Group B-

Group C-

Top player from each group qualifies. Runner ups play in a mini tournament for the final spot.

you guys should either consider doing that or doing what yoon states. because the way it is now, its pretty bullshit.

Its also bullshit that someone that doesn’t stand a chance of even being on this team is complaining a bout it so much.

not sure who youre referring to with that but i dont have a chance to be on that team and i’m complaining about it, so ill go ahead and address it.

so why am i complaining? because im complaining on behalf of asianhitler, 5star, paulee, ricky, yoon…whoever else. i think it would be awesome to watch 5star and ricky on the same team or hitler and paulee or whatever combination.

they might not want me to complain, but i, among most others have an interest in seeing the best possible team represent the U.S. pick the team in a fair manner and the best possible team will be selected. i want to see a well contended battle of the best of the U.S. against the best of Japan. dont we all?

pick me.

You know what? I don’t even think its fair anymore. I don’t care what anyone placed back in 2003 or this past TX Showdown. EVERYBODY should fight for their spot. I don’t even expect whining over fighting for their spot. You guys might as well have 16 people play each other 2/3 and the best 5 get spots. Cause 16 people fighting for 2 spots is stupid, and fighting for 1 spot is even more stupid.

Not to cause any flames, I just thought that the spots should be earned and not handed out, period.

Since players can only choose 1 character at the 5on5… does that mean for the 16 man elimination, the candidates have to stick with one character???

where the fuck is frankie at?

In ‘the other thread’ everyone was like omg watson does so much for the scene he’s our hero, then when he’s rewarded for it people are like ‘no wait he doesn’t represent the players’, which is it?

Sometimes it’s hard to get away from the vids and the hype and just look at who’s performed over the life of the game wrt the US scene, i think when you do, you may be able to debate a few more names (and some that haven’t been mentioned btw), but i don’t see a whole lot else you can talk about.

The singles tournament is designed to tell everyone who the best players are in the game on that day, i don’t think we need another one of those.

For instance KO may be the 10th best player coming from japan on evo day, but i still think he should get a spot just for his performance before. Same with Daigo.

First off, can you link me to the thread youre talking about so we can better understand?

Also, I think its not fair to make such a leap. I think its fair to say Choi and TFGM do a lot for the community. People have been saying it. Should they be on the team in that case? With this type of reasoning, the SRK head staff seems to think so. You cant just correlate doing things for the community with giving someone a spot on the 5 man team, and this is where representing the gamers comes in. The gamers should be able to address the link, not the head honchos. In fact, a more appropriate measure in rewarding him for his services would be to give watson more administration rights and such.

I think you’re right iff you were referring to a street fighter team tournament–something similar to what took place years ago where different games were in the mix. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is just a 3s tournament right? You have to consider that. I know Valle retired but he still plays. Should a spot be offered to him and he should choose to decline/accept it? He has performed better than anyone else (save perhaps justin) over the life of the U.S. fighting game scene.

Im a bit confused here–perhaps you can clarify. If youre talking about US vs Japan, a team tournament is a different animal altogether compared to a singles tournament.

Unless you’re referring to selecting the top 5 people? If so, maybe consider the other player selection mechanisms–group player, etc.?

If not, correct me if I’m wrong but what you guys suggested (having 1 player selected out of the 16 man tournament) is more like a singles tournament than having 2 or 5 people selected out of the 16 man thing. I think everyone would agree that selecting just 1 person is very different than selecting 2,3,4 or 5.

No, KO has been awesome every tournament (be it local or global or whatever). A more appropriate analogy to this situation would be having BAS on the team instead of the likes of J, Spellmaster J, Ohnuki, etc.

Please bear in mind, this doesnt have so much to do with Watson as it does with selecting a 4th person (which in a sense broke the camels back). I’ve always advocated that everyone should have to qualify (even the three previously chosen team captains). It wasnt fair to begin with (having 3 people already selected). If you want to award these people for their services over the years, allowing them to select people for the 16 man tournament is ideal. But regardless, everyone should have to qualify. Being fair is most important to everyone.

Your not even the best in Colorado what makes you think you can compete with the best in the US

rofl @ this thread.

Just like how the japanese got their spots… oh wait they didn’t earn them either.

must be a good thing hes not from colorado huh gtfo fuckin punk ass haters

Choi on the team would not be bad at all… he is The Beast.

in any case, its for sure USA will not have the best team representing us. the only interest i have in this tournament now is watching Umehara and Victoly.

im sure they’ll figure out a method that they all agree upon and itll be fine. doesnt really concern SRK as far as i see it.

Yea, we’re only offically holding the tournament, it doesn’t concern us at the least.

right, now you get it.

Yeah, i’m in the process of fixing things. So please people be patient and stop the theroy fighting. The 5on5 will work out, along with the 16 man tournmanet. Things got a little rocky with the adding of a 4th captain yes, but trust this Black man when I say things will pan out =D

Don’t be so hard on Watson, guy is a good player, he is pretty consistant in the 3s scene and so is everyone else that was selected. That is why they were selected. Every person on the team currently will do well and like always 3s will be the most exciting tournament to watch. So a little patience peeps shit will be alright yo, trust a brotha =D I know my name ain’t always on the spot light as an official srk staff, but im in the cuts helping as well. If I told you what the orginal intentions were for this us vs jap for 3s, you would all shit bricks lol

Will the 16-man special tourney be featured on the EVO DVD?
