*** UPDATED *** OFFICIAL 5 on 5 3S USA VS JAPAN "THE REMATCH"

by your example i guess multiple places around the world have same exact grass soccer ball ect…since as u can see its not ffa thats bringing this up look at post above yours.

i’m glad victoly made it so we can see some dudley beasting.
now jr needs to win a spot with akuma. good luck everyone who gets picked. rep usa to the tee top.

You’re right, every place around the world can use grade A bermuda grass, have the field indoors with the temperature regulated at a nice 70 degrees and use the Euro2004 Adidas ball, but…they dont. Field conditions flucuate (sizes vary), it rains, its hot, its cold, various models of balls are used (nike, adidas, diadora, whatever), etc. etc. But there’s not really much complaining about differences (and bear in mind how much money is running through these games).

For a more at home example, does Alex Rodriguez complain that not every baseball stadium is designed exactly the same? MLB could do it if it wanted to. If anything, he has a greater right to complain than Japanese or FFA players do. Everyone has easy access to PS2s…especially, especially the Japanese. If Rodriguez wanted to practice at a place like Minute Maid park, he would have to fly to Houston all the time.

That being said, I want to make clear that I understand that Kuni was not exactly complaining. I guess I just dont see what the big deal is. The fighting game “organization” is trying as hard as possible for funds and just to get by. If those guys in top money making sports can do it (where their way of living depends on it), I dont see why we (meaning collective video gamers) cant.

Not degrading your play man. I saw a few of your matches from last year and I know you have got skills at 3S. [Not to mention ST] I guess I was trying to make an example of how much better the US has gotten since 02, when you where using Yun with SA1 or SA2. [Cant remember which one as I am not a Yun player]

You can’t tell me you look back at your 3S level back then and laugh compared to now. Anyway, stupid post on my part. Wasn’t trying to show you any “disrespect” or anything like that.

no fuck that. Lets all disrespect watson

cough cough put watson into losers bracket last year while we were sitting on the ground at evo with the joystick in front of our nuts

didn’t see any FFA people put him in losers (hahaha that one didnt make sense)

i <3 watson he has made me a lot of money

A-rod gets paid $25+ million a year to not complain about each field. The differences in equipment are not simply changes to dimensions in venue, we’re talking about game play differences. Its like if they all of a sudden used golf balls instead of baseballs, or batters had to use plastic bats to bunt.

If video game players are going to have to spend their own money to come out to a tournament to play, they’re going to want it to be a standard. Most of them who are trying to compete at a serious level want to know exactly whats in store for them when they play.

I personally hate MvC2 on any console, I’ve been playing versus series games on arcade ever since XCOTA came out about 9 years ago. Most people complain because there are differences between playing on a console versus playing on arcade cabinets. Since we’re using the baseball analogy, its more like you’re being forced to bat from your knees.

Where I can actually see what you are trying to get at with your comments, its a little off base and misses the point. We have no real backing from any large corporations. MLG might be the closest thing we have really. Gamers pay for all of their own expenses, if they were sponsored, then we could actually compare it to pro sports. The differences you list are more like, if one arcade had a shorter cabinet than another arcade. Gamers are not going to spend their money in order to be forced to compromise at a tournament, they’re gonna want to play in a format they are comfortable with.

For 3rd Strike over the past 6 years, that standard has been arcade cabinets until this past year. After people have been practicing, playing, and competing at a high level for so long on arcade cabs, its not that hard to see why people want the format they’ve been used to using. The move to console is pretty much inevitable at this point though.

I don’t want to step on anybody’s toes or show any disrespect, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but has SRK ever asked for donations to buy/rent/acquire arcade cabs?

I don’t know how much it costs to rent and transport cabs, but I’m sure several thousand dollars would help? There is an awesome site called www.fundable.org that makes it easy to collect donations for a cause and also let’s you specify a goal for the amount needed and a time limit. If the goal is not met by the time limit, all money is refunded.

I realize it may be too late for this year’s Evo, but perhaps even one cab for the 5 on 5 and/or the grand finals would make a huge difference to all involved.

I mean if everybody who was complaining about having Evo on console could kick in like 10 bucks or so, we might have some real possibilities here. Sure, a lot of top players already have real life expenses in addition to Evo expenses to pay for, but you never know if there are some rich non-top players out there who would like to contribute to such a worthy cause unless you ask.

Anyways, just a suggestion. It might be too late for this year, but perhaps some consideration for next?

ok we’re getting off track here. Let’s get back to finding a way to get me into the 16 man bracket.

jk. Sorta.

I think it’d be awesome for those of you who make and sell your own arcade cabinets (ready-wired for supergun/console systems) to actually bring one to evo. I mean you’d have to OK it with whoever’s running EVO but I really can’t think of a better way of promoting your work than to have it at this event.

Ok woah, some bitch negged me

“stop your hatin on FFA considering that can kick you’re ass in more than one way.”

Leave a fucking name bitch, at least if IM gonna hate on someone I’ll let em know who’s doing it. Not on some woman anonymous comment shit.

AND for the record, this time I actually wasnt hating on FFA, I was hating on the idea that the reason staff should get cabs is to make FFA happy(Pyro was named in Domo’s post)

That would go for any group, if NY said that werent coming for marvel and someone tried to make the argument we should get cabs so that Justin would come, I’d say that was retarded too.

Props for C royd. He definitely deserves a chance.

People have certain preferences for arcade or console, but don’t the Japanese have their own? So if the 5 on 5 were to be console, wouldn’t the same disadvantage be placed on both sides?

I would be willing to allow my supergun 2p cabinet to be used for the tourny. You can take a look at it in this thread. It has swapable american and japanese set up. So you can have a full Sanwa setup on 1p and the full HAPP set up on 1p. or vice versa or all jap or all Happ. Some one would just have to supply the 3s board. http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2442036

Evolution is a console tournament, and will be played on PS2. On the other hand, Cigarbob has a nice cabinet setup for ps2, which might be good, since it has japanese and american panels built in. Ill let him explain more.

If we go the supergun route, Bob, make sure you split the video/audio on your gun so we can record the event for the DVD! If you can split S-video, that would be tops.

As far as my cabinet goes we will be able to swap out between a full 2 player Sanwa stick and buttons or a full 2 player p360 with competition buttons. Each side is independent of each other. So you can have 1p japan 2p american or vice versa. Each panel is locked into place and will not move or pull off during play.

I think this would be perfect for EVO being that many of the top players will be from Japan and this should make it possible for every one to play at their best.

I will be finishing it this week and ill post detailed pictures in this thread.

I am going to have all video running into a 8head Svideo vcr. So there will be no need to split it. Unless you want it to feed into a PC. But the video encoder ill be using has RCA and Svideo. So we can just get a Y connector for the RCA. Maybe we will be able to just run the video to the TV off the Svideo and then run a RCA from it to a PC. I will figure it out later.

This is great news! Someone who has the authority to make this happen at EVO, please take Cigarbob on his offer to use his setup.

That avatar will always be the shit.

Updated information, SRK is announcing that Mike Watson will get the pick of SRK team captain. After review results over the past two years, it is clear that he is a top choice for this event. Therefore the 16 man tournament will only have 1 spot come out of it.

All spot nominees for the 16 man bracket must be posted before August 1st, otherwise the spots are forfeited.
