I just talked to Hsien, he wanted me to let you guys know that he won’t know who he picks to play in 16man tourney untill after SW regionals. He’s going to use those results to help him decide, since that’s only the real fair way. Top 2 from southwest regional will for sure be picked by him to play in 16man tourney. Other two spots are undecided untill then as well.
I’m not entirely sure I know what youre referring to, but there shouldn’t be a “guaranteed 3” on the team IMHO. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Problem is that there are too many players that deserve the honor to have a spot on that team, how do you pick which one?
The only fair way is to have all those players in the 16 man invitational tourney or whatever, including Jwong and Ricky. A lot of people have been saying that Frankie should be on there if he goes to EVO but thats not really fair to FlashG who beat him at SBO qualifiers. All the top players from various regions deserve a shot at being on the team.
Also the tournament would be fierce no doubt, but its hard to tell how it would compare to the regular Evo 3s tourney seeing that the Japanese wouldn’t be in the tourney to select the US team.
Since Emphy is not gonna toot his own horn, he plays arguably the best Urien in American, very akin to RX. He’s been placing very high in tourney’s recently and has been beating choi and ricky consistantly.
Emphy is JX, student of RX and Umehara. Agreed, the team pyro suggested is easily the strongest US team possible. Theres really no need to have a qualifier…do you really believe anyone else has a chance?
hehe Ricky doesn’t even know what coast he is from, that fool is world wide!! Heh but all jokes aside, empire has 1 representive already, it is Justin Wong. He was choosen to represent East Coast.
People of SRK (and I) have decided to make it a team captain situation. At first it was just going to be 1 captain pickign 4 members. Since that usually causes more trouble then happiness, we came up with selecting 3 captains in the main 3 hotspots of US that play 3s. So cali, Texas and EC. To make it intresting, instead of letting the players choose, we would let the Captains choose who gets to enter the last 16 man tournament to fight it out for the final 2 spots. It is just something different. IMHO, those 3 are prime candidates for the choice of captain and would do very well agaisnt japan.
Now, orginally it was going to be Pyro for wc, but he will not be attending. It then defaulted to Frankie, but he will not be attending as well so the Captain goes to Vic.
Now about the 16man tournament, I agree with you FMJag. Maybe a single game double elim or 2/3 double elim might be the better choice. There still plenty of time to talk about how this 16 man should run. There no need to bash on anyones ideas though, im sure we can all talk about this without causing to much craziness. =D What is final though are the captains and there spots on the 5 on 5. Sorry thats just how it is this year.
Well, what happens Mr.Cole. With all due respect. We would have true representation of the best talent to take on our japanese friends if this 5 on 5 is done on a machine and not on a console. Yes, I guess we’re all picky or whatever, but it makes a difference none the less. Why couldn’t it be possible to have maybe a few machines? Maybe 3 or so to satisfy those who really care about this sort of thing? I know its too late to suggest this sort of thing, but maybe next year? Can we push for this sort of thing to happen? I’m sure it would make Pyro happy as well as alot of other really good players that can do some serious damage in tourneyment placement.
Just a thought because I know as well as everyone else knows that Ricky looks like hes aiming more for winning at CvS2, and Justin looks like hes aiming more at winning MvC2, and not a focus on 3S very much. Theres alot of people at FFA and Norcal that are very well prepared at this game, its just that console factor that keeps them from coming, and all it would take is just a couple of machines to keep them happy. Just a thought, I know it late, but can we like make a BIG post it note somewhere on everyone’s fridge saying “Keep some of us happy at the next EVO, bring a few machines for those who really want it”.
Is it really US vs Japan then? or is it US (Japanese division) vs Japan Originals. USA is console, SRK is console, IMO most of the reason people cared enough to make a 5v5 worth seeing is because 3s came out for DC and then PS2/XBL. To be honest i’m not so sure there is a console issue, it’s just what people say in public cause its more convienent than the real reason, and they know some people on srk still buy into it instead of looking at reality.
How can someone be ‘very well prepared’ if they aren’t even able to use standard tournament equipment? I would think that knowing the controls is an important part of preperation.
So you’re saying SRK should spend $1000+ so that FFA can be more comfortable? Is that a serious suggestion? If the japanese can play on console, FFA can too. It’s that simple, Pyro Frankie and whoever, they made a choice not to play because its console, which of course is fine, but that doesnt mean SRK should try to buy equipment so they’ll come.
Just to defend Frankie and Pyro here a little. The reasons they are not attending are NOT because it is being played on console. They just have prior engagments, real life issues that have came up that neither can ignore.
DOmokun: It is just really expensive and hard to drag cabinets all the way to vegas. Feel free to email SRK staff with suggestions if you have an easy way to get them over there and cost efficient. Everything is just easier on console. (Believe me, i wish everything could be on Arcade as well)
Isn’t that a bit (or even worse) than a soccer player complaining that the same exact grass, soccer ball, and goal posts are not in every soccer stadium?
Games with the likes of Ronaldo and Zidane have millions of dollars of stake in them and there’s not a problem. They can adjust. Why can’t video game players conform to something that is readily available to them and where the differences are extremely marginal(PS2 3s)?
I’m not trying to be disrespectful or anything, just an honest question.
