This is what I do regarding the Trish match-up:
Don’t let her play the game her way, poke her with lightningxx buster cancel, and don’t rushdown like a madman. Her ideal spot will be above you in her divekick/trap range. If you can get her to whiff her dive kick you should be able to punish her for free, but that’s a risk too unless you know your spacing. Assists like Hidden Missles, Vajra, Jam Session or any other anti-air assist can make it so much easier on yourself.
Also a friend of mine who plays Trish LOVES to switch between runaway and rushdown mid-match (think magneto neutral/back jump j.L or j.H); in the event that happens don’t sit there, and don’t ever take the blockstun. Run away and punish her with buster. Do anything in your power to frustrate your opponent instead, even if it means running away.
You guys EXTREMELY overrate Zero in a lot of his matchups.
Hawkeye vs Zero is pretty much unwinnable for Zero if Hawkeye has any good neutral assists. St.H xx Speed Shot blows up his ground game, as Speed shot eats through buster and everything except higher-priority projectiles, and St.H xx Scatter Shot prevents him from doing much in the air. If Zero tries to approach, Hawkeye can j.H xx Net Arrow. If for some reason Zero does make it in, Hawkeye can just call his assist. I often play Zero against an amazing Hawkeye, but the vast majority of the time, Zero doesn’t do shit, and Spencer and Ammy have to do the work instead.
Anyone who thinks Hawkeye vs Zero is better than 9-1 in Hawkeye’s favor, we should run some games, so feel free to add me. I’ll play my point Hawkeye team and show you why it’s such an awful matchup.
I agree; I actually have a couple of friends who run Hawkeye in their teams. I’m aware that match ups involving good keepaway make it more difficult for Zero to get in and do anything. Trish is already an annoying match-up since she’s made to run the timer out. Taskmaster is another annoying match-up for me since he can afford to press buttons (charging star) when Zero’s in the air and you absolutely can’t afford to play footsies near him since his cr.L comes out deceptively fast. At that point it’s just pacing yourself with good assist calls, but even then that’s not guaranteed depending on how your opponent’s assists are used.
Also off-topic: Firebrand has better buttons than Zero. You seriously can’t afford to go auto-pilot with Zero’s mixups since Firebrand can blow you up for it and convert into a hard to blockable or a kill. It forces me to wait for him to mess up or switch your team order if it came down to those two on point.
'Mator your nuts. hawkeye is mildly challenging at best. yeah you have to wade through a lot of shit but once you get close he’s dead…btw zero will have assists too so its not like he’s going solo vs hawk. there are just certain things you cant do in the matchup like airdash. we can play a first to ten…hawkeye will get thrashed zero can’t go nuts and do whatever he wants in the match up but your speaking as if zero doesn’t have answers for most of hawk’s stuff except gimplet.
I’ll try my new Hawkeye team…but keep in mind, Strider assist makes the matchup easier.
Also, Hawkeye will probably either have a GTFO assist and/or a lockdown assist and/or Hidden Missiles/Drones.
Zero doesn’t have answers to st.H xx scatter shot xx gimlet DHC to million dollars (or whatever character you’re playing second)
Speed shot eats through buster and lightning and still hits Zero. He can punish your assists on reaction. st.H xx speed shot gimlet DHC to whatever will kill your assist.
Also, if I don’t get the point across when we play later, I need you to run FT10 with a friend of mine that runs point Hawkeye if you truly think that the matchup is that easy. (My Hawkeye is still a work in progress. He’s teaching me how to play him well. My Hawkeye is good, but not as good as his.)
In my opinion, Zero has the most trouble with Strider assist, keepaway teams using Missiles (or some assist that really boosts keep away teams’ game), and Hawkeye.
Just tested it, and you’re wrong. Hawkeye’s trick shot H beats it clean. Trick shot H (or speed shot as i call it) into Gimlet will kill assists very fast.
I’ll ask if he wants to play you, but I’m not sure if he’s even on. His controller kept dying mid-match when I played him like an hour ago, lol. I’ll send him a message and see if he wants to play you.
EDIT: He is online, but he’s currently doing player matches, so I don’t know if he will accept the FT10 challenge, lol.
anyway back on topic. i think zero does have trouble against certain tandems like vergil/wesker/dorm+ beam assist. any good start of the round character+haggar(i still don’t know what to do against hulk haggar vs zero). fighting hawk can be annoying but its a battle of patience and controlling the screen IMO. I use strider so like mator said that makes this fight and a lot of zero’s annoying match ups much easier. Strider grounds them and if i happen to be on the ground they might die from being hit by strider. mags+missles may also be a tough match at least for my team since strider is nullified in most cases by missles.
Zero/Dante/Strider is the best Zero team. Strider assist rapes Trish, both assists help just a LITTLE against Taskmaster, but they don’t do much against Hawkeye. Hawkeye’s screen control is just all-around better than Zero’s. Play a good Hawkeye, not a triple-arrow spamming noob, and you’ll see how good he really is against Zero.
any advice on the wolverine & magneto matchup? more specifically, the matchup at the very start of the round? not exactly sure on what to do, or what i should be doing. outside of that, i should be okay.
the local top8 season playoff tournament thing is in around a month, and probably half of the people in the playoffs run wolverine, a few with magneto, with myself being the only zero player. D:
some insight would be much appreciated.
oh and i run zero/dante/hawkeye and/or zero/vergil/dorm.
If you’re playing Zero the right way, you won’t need to worry about that.
At the start of round, I’d suggest watching for grabs and Wolverine’s Divekick. Be very sparing with the buster cancels when they’re in your face. Don’t do Buster xx lightning AT ALL either. Magneto can punish that from almost anywhere, and your Zero dies (as a rule of thumb, you shouldn’t be doing that at all outside of combos). With Wolverine, you have to stay in the air. Use M Raikousen xx Buster xx L Hiyenkyaku (spelling?) to make some space between you when fighting both characters. Watch out for the surprise air throws with Magneto too.
Don’t stay grounded against either of them, especially Magneto with Drones or Missiles. You should play a turtle Zero against these characters unless you have no choice but to rush them down. Be sure to call Jam Session whenever it’s safe to. (Rapid Slash and Dark hole aren’t that good against Wolverine and Magnus when compared to Jam Session.)
If you are on the ground when fighting Wolverine, use his Flaming Uppercut M or H to counter Dive Kick. Watch for any assists he might call before the Dive Kick though, as Shopping cart and Tatsu beat the uppercut.
Pizza Cutter loses to Magneto’s j.H and trades with Wolverine’s divekick. Just FYI.
That’s pretty much all I can think of right now. Good luck, lol. Magneto is a hell of a threat to deal with when playing Zero.
at the start of the round use H dp it starts up in five frames thats fast enough to destroy anything that mags or wolverine can do at the start unless they have haggar. i use H because if they block it there is enough time to get a buster out. it also option selects the throw at the start of the round. so just be ready to mash 6h to tech the rest of them. …and if you hit them with the dp…you can buster lightning follow up st. h into a full life combo. needless to say you’ll probably only have to show them once that you will kill wolverine or mags and they will start backing off …
right mator i remember that set we had and you start doing aaaaaaaaaaarm at the start of the round. it really is zero’s best defense against start of the round bs…unless they have haggar.
