UPDATED - "Fighting EVOLVED" EVO2K9 Prep Tourney! @ SOGO BAR Scarboro 06/20/09

Just dropping by to say I’m showing up for the STHD tourney.

Yes I agree Jay Wang. I was actually going to make a rough chart myself with the Names I have confirmed so far. And Yes I believe ONE PERSON should collect all the money.

I REALLY BELIEVE JS GF (Money Girl) and EMILY (SCIV player) Should deal with all the money and checking names, because everyone else will surely be busy with the actual tournament and games. I will confirm this.

And we can still decide on the Venue fee. $10 Will pretty much gaurantee people will spend the money there on food and drink. I’m just a little concerned if people feel $10 is too much and don’t want to be “forced” to buy food their.

@ $5 Venue Fee, 50 Player 25/25 Do Venue/Food.

5x25=250; 20x25=500; 250+500=750. Basically we have to do 100/hour, so I think at this rate it shouldn’t be so bad.

HOWEVER charging $10 almost gaurantees they will buy food/drink there. So if they want their TEN BUX to go far, they may as well buy something.

And is THURSDAY EVENING at about 7:30 good for the Tourney Organizers to do a test run with equpiment and spacing. I feel this is of utmost importance if we want the tourney to run smooth with minimal delays the day of.

If we divide these tasks accordingly this will be one of the Best Events the T.O fg scene has outside T#!!

Yes degrade the women to desk work

dino did you need me at the test run btw?

I can’t attend on Thursday. I work until 8:00pm.

I agree with the $5 venue fee. I’d rather have my money go towards food and drink!

I’m all for this as long as they know how to use excel!

5x25 = $125 (not $250)… so instead of $750 overall, it’s really only $625.

Anyways here are my 2 cents, which are based on the following assumptions:

  1. Minimum 50 unique players
  2. Everyone has to eat at some point during the day (whether it’s before, during or after the tourney)
  3. Nobody dips from the bar to go eat elsewhere (ie @McD across the street or whatever other random resteraunt)
  4. We charge a $10 venue fee
  5. We impose a $15 food+drink quota (upon when reached, the venue fee is refunded)

So at 50 people, if EVERYONE meets the $15 quota, that is $15x50 = $750 (minimum)… which buys us 7.5 hrs. This number however will likely be about 10-20% greater as I doubt everybody will buy EXACTLY $15 worth of food/drinks.

If we use a $20 quota, that is $20x50 = $1,000 (!) which buys us 10 hrs. But some people might think $20 is a little too steep (?)

This of course is the extreme scenario because it assumes everyone to spend the required money.

By going the $10/$15 route for venue/food, I’m confident that we will meet the $100/hr requirement from the bar. I don’t see us running any more than 8 hours given our numbers and setups.

This pricing scheme will also definately encourage the players to spend more in order get their money’s worth BUT at the same time will keep the costs down for everyone!

=============================

Think of it this way:

Spend $10 and get “nothing”

OR

spend an additional $5 (total $15) and get:

a) food (100 flavours of wings!)
b) something to drink! (alcohol at a SF tournament? Sounds good to me!)
c) remember that at some point you will have to eat anyways! why not support the bar that has welcomed us with open arms!!

======================

Let me know what you guys think!!!

I’m not available Thursday (going to watch UP!) It would be too much of a trek for me anyways from Sauga just for a couple of hours. I trust that JS Master will have the vision to see the setup!

PS. How about I go ahead and post this on some other gaming GTA websites / forums? Ie. Red Flag Deals and maybe even GameFAQs?

Post it up everywhere imo.

Sorry I misunderstood. I’m fine with any Venue fee as long as it gets refunded if we spend an X amount, which we will probably spend anyway.

Basically for the Test Run, I just want to see how the TV setup will be, whether we are using their LCDs or our own LCD/CRTs.

also, with so many Laptops, thats alot of outlets taken up. I know we will have power bars and all; but I feel one Laptop can handle all the brackets, and we can jus create a hard copy, so we don’t have to constantly be checking a Lappy for the next match. I found this slowed down the April tourney, whereas with a hard copy, I can call 5-6 matches before I need to update the Laptop. 1 For brackets, and one for updates (and possibly Vids).

Also, I want to make sure we can setup tables, seating properly. We will need to leave a space for customers to use the bathroom. We will also have about 5-6 tables that can seat 6 easily, so we may need to work out a system about Time Limits for Tables, so everyone gets a chance to eat.

Also the Patio is spacious, so I’m thinking we can have one Setup outside, depending on weather and management. I’m sure SFIV being advertised on what is already UFC fight night, will be sure to draw crowds.

DJ Adverb also expressed interest in DJ-ing for this event. He would probably arrive same time as me. Space is beginning to look like a concern again!!! haha but this is always a Great Problem to have.

Man. Too excited.

Edit: Sorry Wang Im an idiot. Dont know how I could have missed that. Thanks.

Edit2: Yes JAYWANG post up wherever. As is though I think we won’t have a problem with numbers, but more is better. I think we should put up a small advertisment at Orbit and possibly Love Getty. I’ll work on this.

and yea, I think ME, RXS, and JS should be enough to do the setup. I just wanted the T.O’s knowing what to expect.

More soon…

OK let me just explain the value in the $10 fee as opposed to $5.

The venue is set up (according to JS) such that if you spend $20 then your venue fee is waived assuming you produce a receipt. Essentially you pay $10 up front, then spend $20 within the bar and give the organizers your receipt, you are then REFUNDED the $10. Thus you’ve spent $20 in house and that’s all. The $10 you gave at the beginning for the venue is returned to you.

If you spend $5 on the venue, you are still going to be there for the entire day. You still need to eat somewhere. Average price of fast food ranges from $7 - $10. So you’re likely spending $15 - $17 on the day with small venue + food somewhere else. If you were to buy ANYTHING from the bar (randomly got thirsty considering you can’t bring in outside food) you go over the $20 anyway.

It’s a total win/win situation to run with the $10 venue fee. Drop $20 at the place, get the $10 back from the start. It shows the venue that we appreciate them SAVING THE TOURNAMENT on a week’s notice and it’s a great value for the players in the long run.

Ok I spoke with Jamie(wb), he’s ok with the wang/ngu/wb team since he did ask them first.

Gerjay, hook me up on your team.

JayWang is my team’s third player.

I asked him first and so long as he’s said yes and hasn’t changed his mind, I’m sticking to that.

Jamie/JayWang/Ngu

Gerjay/Jiggabreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee/FuckYouRey

Are the teams then?

I’ll go on whatever team needs this old scrub.

i updated my post
pls read
i am in agreement with nagata
me jamie ngu for sthd sounds good

Hotness!!!

looooooooooooool.

Honestly Justin what the fuck kind of low blow bullshit was that? The comparison was completley unnecessary. Their staff bends over backwards at every given opportunity to help the players out and the way you make it sound its like they scum the players instead of absorbing what in many cases is 50 - 75% of their normal rate per player per time used in order to accomodate us. Fuck man, seriously stupid post from someone who’s typically smarter.

im gonna spend well over 60 dollars on food n drinks

loooool the scummy JayWang post.
