I’m glad you have a good fighting game community around you but 95% of us don’t. What passes for an arcade here is a couple ski ball machines, Time Crisis 2 and Who Wants to Be a Millionare shoved in the corner of a gooney goof park. Yes I have plenty of friends but most of them aren’t gamers and the ones that are aren’t nearly on my level. So when I do manage to con one of my friends into playing me I just end up raping them and they get tired of losing and I get tired of not being challenged.
The entire reason I got into fighting games hardcore was because of online play. I use to play on kaillera and later on GGPO and 2DF. I realize playing people in person is a lot better than playing online but where I live that is not an option so when a game comes out and has a shitty unplayable netcode then it’s absolutely worthless to me. Most people on this forum are in the same boat I am.
That’s sort of what I was saying before. Out of ALL the console fighting games people here own, how many have really “excellent” online? SF4, SFHD, BB? That’s about it.
All of those were released in the past couple months. What were people doing before the last couple months? Not buying fighting games? I know THAT’S not true…
I can see how people would be pissed if KOFXII’s online isn’t good (my copy still hasn’t arrived in the mail yet, so I have yet to test it myself). I have no community around me, so I know what it’s like playing alone.
But, let’s be honest. Excellent online in fighting games is a VERY recent concept. I find it odd how suddenly excellent FG online is a “make or break” kind of thing when it didn’t even exist a few months ago.
Plus, SNK has already demonstrated their willingness to patch the game. So, online could definitely get better with time.
we can spend all day making up excuses for the lack of a decent net code. Yes the game can be awesome but lets not forget that ever since the xbox 360 and the ps3 were released, gamers were bombarded with sky rocketing prices for new titles. what ever happened to the $19.99 standard price for most of the games? remember when $39.99 was just too much for a game. in other words, if you as a consumer are paying $59.99, it must be a satisfactory product at least.
Quality online is really a must now. **You’ve got to adapt to the times. **HD wasn’t important 5+ years ago, but it is important to consumers now.
Quality online could revive a dying genre. It got me excited about fighting games again. I’d all but quit playing them since my friends were no competition. So online can revive a dying genre. I dont think anyone can deny that 2d fighters were dying after 2000. Yeah there’s still some hardcorers that never stopped playing, but arcades are all but gone outside of socal.
No one’s denying that we wouldn’t like to have a huge local scene and funds to travel and play people all over the place, but that’s just not how it is right now. Fighters need online right now to jump start a dying breed.
edit: I really hope they work this out. I LIKE the game, but the presentation/means to play it blows hardcore. Unless something happens I can’t play, the AI sucks-arcade is worthless. End rant.
However, there was a patch out before the game even officially launched, and they acknowledge the fact that there is an issue instead of pretending it doesn’t exist.
I know. Online-less PS2 version still outsold it by lots and lots. Apparently people were still willing to play a fighting game offline, local community or no local community.
Anyways, I made my point a few posts ago. I wouldn’t pull the trigger on those returns until the very last day possible…give them a chance to work stuff out if they’re going to. Doesn’t hurt you at all to wait.
The PS2 version sold more because PS2 had everything you needed and more at the time not mention the Xbox control was shit for fighting games that weren’t DOA plus Sony already had a deep foot in the video game market to begin with after the PSone’s massive success, and I’m not trading in my copy… I’m just pissed like everyone else :bluu:
The support and excitement generated by the fans so far for THE KING OF FIGHTERS XII is amazing and incredibly appreciated. We are so happy to finally have it available. Even after the game was finished, additional steps were taken to help improve the player experience and an update was released for both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
However, Ignition Entertainment is not at all happy with the online performance or with some of the functional issues that the fans have raised even after the release of these updates. We want to ensure the community that we are not taking this lightly and are having meetings in person with members of SNK PLAYMORE even at this very moment. Please continue your constructive feedback because we are listening and will do everything we can to have SNK PLAYMORE address these issues as soon as possible.
The King of Fighters series has always had some of the very best and supportive fans and we want to do what we can to help ensure they are treated right. We will continue to keep you updated on progress with SNK PLAYMORE and we thank you again for the continued support."
