Not really…I said bitching about **showing **join dates.
I don’t think the “older” folk care if it’s displayed or not.
Any update if we will return to HTML or whatever in favor of BBCode? This is just not fun when trying to update a large post, pretty much a nightmare in text form.
Love all the current changes for the most part, also keep join dates/post count.
I know what you mean, and it still doesn’t change the fact that only the wanna-be elitist care about join dates to begin with. It leads to bitching at some point. I mean, you even used “09er” in the very first post about this topic, which is a term only used to denounce and generalize a part of the community. Why does it matter when someone has joined? Why does it matter how many posts someone has? They were disabled for a reason. What matters is the content of a post itself, and not the context of how long the user has been registered on the forums or how many posts he has.
It’s not a trophy that you are longer active than the user above you, but that’s exactly the reason that you want it to stay. You feel better than the rest for some twisted reason.
If you want to know the join date you can always visit the profile of that specific member, no need to clusterfuck every post with it.
I’ll let the powers that be decide whether to keep the meta stuff or not - I simply updated the rest of the theme as I could see 1.3.0 had been deployed and this overwrote some of the existing customizations.
The text wrapping on the text under the avatars doesn’t seem to work. Also still can’t change the text.
Any update on whatever bug is affecting the avatars?
EDIT: Also, I still think the “DarkBlue” theme I wrote should be added to the themes. It’s the closest to the old “SRK-Dark” theme when the site was still on XenForo and should be a comfortable choice for many folks.
EDIT 2: Games in the Strategy Zone outside of the Fighting Games and Other Games sections/categories (MvC2, CvS2, 3rd Strike and TvC) are still only visible to a select few people (i.e. me), the rest of the posters still can’t see them.
EDIT3: Biggest annoyance with any of the themes is the fact that stickies/announcements look almost the same as regular posts aside from the bold face font. At the very least, they need a different background colour from the regular threads.
Good lord please no HTML.
Solarized dark theme is great. Unnecessarily blurry av’s, not so much.
Join Dates are fine. It prevents trolls from making a new account and pose as someone else.
I remember all those new accounts posing as Seth Killian and trolling the MVC3 forum.
You sound so hurt bro…
who hurt you?
My avatar! My pixels!
Is there an ETA on the update? I’m really looking forward to some of those fixes. I know it’s just ads that were needed to fix.
Supermods/admins should speak to whether Join Date should be visible. I thought they were generally against it because it caused needless elitism. OTOH, we could always work harder at quashing that elitism if it crops up again.
I say give it a shot and see what happens. If join dates becomes a problem then remove them.
LEave the Join Dates shlowing so we don’t have that copy account trolling bullshit again.
Who gives a shit whether it stays or goes? If people call out join dates they’re bitches anyway. The time is better spent dealing with other things on the site.
And that is exactly why they don’t belong under every single post. Join dates are not invisible, just visit a profile and you can see them. That should be control mechanism enough to see if someone is a copy-cat.
It might be not that much of a problem anymore as it was the case a few years ago, but there will always be a new fighting game around the corner, where it suddenly plays a role again. “what you only registered a month ago? scrub”-mentality. There is no benefit in showing post count / join date, but there is a benefit to not show them.
Couldn’t your desires be met with “only show the Join Date if the Join Date is within the last week or newer” or something along those lines? That seems like a more localized fix while still avoiding the general concern of elitism. If you do want to be elitist, just mouse over their username and check their account ID #. Anything 2609 or lower and they’re bomb.
While I appreciate the humorous intent of the post, even that method was taken away after the migration to XenForo. I used to use User ID# as a rough method of figuring out when people joined on old SRK but that’s not valid anymore. Q_Q
I would think that having a variable like that (only show if join date is less than a week ago) would be harder to configure, but then again I’m not the professional on the forums, so it’s not really my place to say.
All in all, I don’t think join dates are necessary at all (and if I ever want to know, I just go to their profile, for those that don’t have it blocked), but to be fair it can definitely go both ways with the “elitism” - new users don’t want it shown so they can try to “fit in” better, and older users want it shown so they know the ones that don’t “fit in”. “Fit in” obviously used loosely, as both justifications are equally weak.
Could care less if join dates are visible or not, I just wanted more theme options, in particiular, the darker ones so that forum browsing will be easier on the eyes plus have avatars be less blury, although their size is just right.
EDIT: Seems like my forum “title” is still overlapping to the right.
keep join dates
remove post count :x
either way good work to our VS bro! can we safely change avs yet?
