Ive seen it somewhat done in video but I have personally NEVER been able to to this. I believe it has to do with range but I’m not sure.
to get this to work. You have to normal throw your opponent. When they wake up you do the UOH to SAII the timing is character specific.
The easiest char to catch it on is urien/yun/yang. When you throw urien.
Watch ryu’s animation
once ryu’s foot hits the floor after the throw. Do the UOH if it hits… Super!
for Shotos the wait is a little longer. When you throw shotos. Ken specifically. Watch the inside of his leg. You will see a crease in the inside of his pants leg. Once that crease goes away. do the UOH if it hits you will get it.
Ryu333SSS is right. The hard part is timing the meaty UOH. Trying to hit them very early with the UOH. What’s nice about this link though, is if the UOH connects at the right moment, it’s easy to link that overhead into SA2. So linking the SA2 from the overhead is easy, but timing the UOH to connect at the right moment is the harder part. Good news is that it’s not that hard. Go into training and keep at it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got it within the first couple of tries.
I love this Super and I wish there were more discussion on it. Can we make threads for each Super for Ryu? I’d love to discuss baiting tips and tricks for this Super.
It’s highly under-rated and fun as all hell.
Sorry to be late on this parade, but i’d like to plug my own youtube channel (youtube.com/roydroydroyd) where episodes 1 and 2 were dedicated on UOH.
anyway, now that i got that out of the way, what i’d recommend to everyone practicing the meaty timing is to remember that different characters get up at different speeds so you would need to perform the universal overhead earlier on hugo, yun, yang, etc…
and to correct fistoftheryustar (love that name!), you have to hit them with the uoh very LATE. not early. The whole point of a meaty is that you hit them with late. Perhaps you meant that you should start the UOH early which makes perfect sense.
<3 you
FUCK YOU CROYD ERESFGHTHHH… jk I love that UOH vid man.
You pretty much summed up what I meant. ^
Have to check out UOH video 2.
Once you get used to the timing it becomes second nature. You can easily practice it in training mode.
I didnt know they had different get up times, which makes sense as to why it feels like you’re about to hit it, but doesn’t work. Also once you hit the UOH, it always feels like the super is a cancel or some kind of 1frame link. If you can get the UOH to hit at the right time, it feels like the Super will always combo.
Like linking sa2 off a st.lk. I want to see that used effectively.

From the vids above. It’s hard to link effectively, but it’s only lately I found out you can link it from standing lp and lk.
One advantage of doing standing lk / crouching lk is that even if you are guessing, the lk tends to have high priority anyway. Im sure theres still lots of potential for using this super or bring out the best in it.
I remember seeing a SGGK vid too and it was like a Shin Shoryuken option select! I’m not familiar with actually using SGGK, but I would definitely add that to my arsenal. I gotta learn it.
to be honest, you’re better off doing a s.MK into a SA2 (depending on character) or a kara SA2
Sorry I didn’t realize you’d take me seriously
I was joking. That’s why I said ‘effectively’. Because st.lk to sa2 is something you’re basically never ever going to use instead of anything else. It has no advantage other than being completely unexpected. In a punish situation is really the only time it would be ok, and even then it’s just silly. In any other instance it’s just a terrible idea. You basically can’t confirm it unless you’re just ridiculous, it’s high/low parryable, it’s a link and you still need to be hella close to connect it to a non-kara or kara sa2.
kara sa2 off cl.mk is awesome though. So is kara sa2 off cr.mk since it gives you a good bit more wiggle room for connecting it. also doing a kara sa2 from short short cancel gives you more leeway.
lk into SA2 would get respect points from me. i’d probably let you win the entire round
Mopreme is rolling over in his grave.
Ahahahaha ok then it’s probably worth it. All the same if someone did something like that to me I would definitely lean my head around the cab.
I’ll have to remember that if I ever play C-Royd haha
Yeah it is just funky execution and reaction. Unless you’re some crazy daigo reaction pro, LK-SA2 isnt the best.
I find it awesome how in the last few posts there’s more kara SA2 mention than there is in like the whole forum lol. I remember asking about kara SA2 in the past and there were barely any answers.
How do you guy do your kara? I do ken’s kara shoryu after a qcf. Just the way that Ive been learning it. Does anyone mess around with it via :qcf::d::df: MK/HK, Punch (closer to the original super input) instead.
I just do qcf qcf (end on df) roundhouse then a punch.
I should probably be trying that more often. I’ll test out which feels better.
Ok I think qcf to kara shoryu motion works best for me. I think most people I think qcf qcf is the probably better.
Now I try kara shin shoryu whenever I’d regularly do shin shoryu. I guess that means losing a few games training that, but I want it so that I can eventually choose between shin shoryu and kara. Downside of the kara version is you give up a few frames for the start up.
I’ve been wondering, in the above video there’s the delay shin shoryuken. If you press qcf, hold forward a bit, press mp (f.MP overhead animation) can you quickly do qcf P into a kara shin shoryuken? I know the game will let you do: qcf, any attack button, and then qcf+P to do the super. Given the mechanics of the game, Im just curious if it’s possible to kara off a f.MP (given the empty qcf before hand.)
That one I find extremely impractical, but it’d be interesting to learn if it was possible. My fingers arent the best, but my guess is that it would either work or you would be forced to hadouken doing the “hold forward + MP” part.
What do you think a qcf followed by (any direction + ) MP will do?
qcf (hold) f.MP? you mean?
edit: nevermind i dont think f.MP has enough frames for you to kara anything but a throw anyway
