This is actually pretty common to be honest. And I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about when it comes to filler episodes. How long does 5 minutes last? As long as Lord Toriyama wants. Filler is really only an issue with the mainstream bullshit that everyone watches. Naruto, One Piece, motherfucking Bleach? Everyone has seen or at least heard of them if they’re into anime. Shows like Mirai Nikki or Elfen Lied, more non-mainstream stuff, tend to get to the point. If they have more to say, there’s another season. Does this make them better or worse? No. But you can’t say they’re all full of filler when you clearly only watch whatever comes on Toonami every week (along with some shojo shit as well if you think its all cutesy. TF is so cute about shit like Deadman Wonderland or Attack on Titan?).
the whole “80s/90s was better” argument gets made by people our age for all kinds of things besides anime, including music, movies, video games, tv shows. its like people never heard of nostalgia.
Speaking as someone born in the 90’s, the argument is fucking dumb. It’s not better, it’s different. If you don’t like something, don’t watch/listen/use it.
However, I have to disagree a bit. This argument rarely reaches into gaming. There are certain games that are still held in high regard, but not too many people are gonna run around raving about how 90’s games are better than now.
Which is why I give shit less about cowboy bebob, fma, and pretty much anything else that was on CN during that time. Cause most of it is just cookie cutter well produced garbage.
Last 90s anime I watched recently was YYH and that still shits on stuff like Attack on Titan, Sword Art Online, and all these trash slice of life and harem shows.
I would say 2010 is when anime got mega weebified when that Oreimo trash dropped which was the beginning of the end. All this moe and loli shit is garbage. And especially protags in action shows are getting lamer and lamer. I would just recommend reading manga because wider catalog and I can find a good manga before I find a good current anime.
Some people are speaking off nostalgia thats why its best to watch some of your childhood shit now. I also watched Gundam Wing again recently, loved it as a kid but as an adult who is actually paying to attention to whats goin on the show took a huge drop midway and barely picked up again
I think anime has been getting better over time its just writing has been getting worse over time. Look at some of the action sequences in Naruto compared to those in DBZ they are way more detailed and 100x higher quality animation, albeit with some episodes having epic rush jobs thrown in there. The characters just arent as likeable as there’s a lot less character development because the mangas these animes are based off of are 5,6,700 chapters long they arent engineered to tell a story they are built to keep a franchise going sell merch etc. It took Superman 70 years to get to 700 issues these guys are getting there in10-15 years.
Animation quality has no weight on the content of the series. In the same way a game can have the best graphics ever but still have horrible characters, plot, gameplay and etc
Are you shitting me here? Animation quality is important for an anime. If any animated program had animation like this I wouldn’t give it the time of day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZtvS_HGPMk
I think what happened when people looked back on 80s/90s anime is that the only stuff that gets remembered is the good stuff, and everything else gets forgotten or swept under the rug. I don’t think it helps either that back then, barely anything got a global release (there was no Crunchyroll/Netflix/Hulu/Funimation then), so most of what the rest of the world saw was the cream of the crop.
That, and I just don’t think 2000s-era anime is even all that emasculated. Sure, you’ve got your K-Ons and Love Lives, but you’ve got your Gurren Laganns, your Psycho Passes, and Attack on Titans too.
Gurren Lagann could make up for a decades’ worth of K-Ons in the manliness department, anyway.
Id still say for that being a rush job the fact that they considered all that secondary movementin the piece puts it above dbz which isnt very far ahead of like stop motion
Using Naruto as a reference doesn’t help back up your point. If anything, it proves you’re afflicted with taste cancer since your myopic ass is too lazy to watch anything outside of the garden-variety shounenfag shit.

I said it has no weight on the contenr of the series. For example Samurai Champloo is a great show with great animation. But if the series was trash then it being well animated doesn’t cancel out that the content of the show was garbage
Because they started pumping out shit like Oreimo and SAO to pander to extreme Japanese otaku and their American counterparts are weebs.
@ThatJollyOlBastid I know shovelware was always around. But it wasn’t the first thing I would see if I was looking for anime back then. And it wasn’t what was at the forefront like how all that trash is today. Just go on crunchyroll and see whats on there lol
Im just saying my observations. I don’t watch much new shit due to what be coming out I read.manga about 80% of time now. But if people keep watching it that’s on them. Finding a good seinen always outbeats looking at something like Oreimo
