Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

Sith marauders in kotor2 was so broken lol. Bioware>obsidian entertainment I mean I liked kotor2 but the first was much better.

Let’s not forgot that there is no ending for KOTOR2.

Yeah, they uhhh…kinda didn’t put one in.

I haven’t tried Gothic 3. Fan backlash says they hated it though, and more importantly, it was (and from what I heard, still is) buggy as fuck.

Gothic 2 is pretty ugly overall, but functionally the graphics do their job; not hard to make out things, etc.

Hate Gran Turismo.

final 6 and 7 are overrated
no more heros wasnt that great
portal is not the messiah
Diablo 2 gets boring quickly
NES games are remembered too fondly/ Being old school isn’t cool
double dragon sucks/ any beat em up where you can’t block sucks
It’s not cool to hate halo

Gotta love those threads that border on bait…

Nintendo hasn’t made a good console in 18 years.

CPS2 SF2’s sounds and music are better than CPS1 SF2’s sounds and music.

I whole heartedly disagree, and that’s such a narrow-minded way of looking at it. Nostalgia is nice and all, but classic games being fun has absolutely nothing to do with nostalgia. To put it simply, some games are just that fucking good. While incredible graphics leave you awestruck at how far video games have come, some games are just masterpieces, no matter how old and outdated they are.

Case and Point: Final Fantasy VI. I used to think that I enjoyed playing this game over and over only because of nostalgia. Not the case. I have two cousins who are 13 and 15 and never grew up to games like these. They heard of it and how good us old fogeys think it is, but were turned off by the 16-bit graphics. I told them to give it a try, and within hours, they fell in love with the game. They shared it with their friends, and the same thing. They’re all saying, ā€œthese graphics suck, but why don’t they make games this good nowadays.ā€

Starcraft, Mario 64, Hyper Fighting/Super Turbo, Mega Man 3, GoldenEye, FF Tactics, MGS1, Chrono Trigger. The list goes on…

I’m not saying that new games can’t be good. I’m certain that a select few PS3 and X360 games will become classics that will be worth revisiting when PS6 and X3590805 is out. The point is, it goes way beyond nostalgia. People don’t enjoy old games because it brings back memories or because enjoying them makes them part of the video-game elite. They like them because the games are good.

I said it before in this thread and I’ll reiterate it because given the lack of flames I got, I’m not sure if I was understood.

Super Mario World 2… SUCKED.

other unpopular opinions held by Dasrik:

  • Final Fantasy 4 is hard. Stop laughing at me, damn it, I still can’t beat it without cheating to this day (whereas I’ve beat FF6 a few times legit).
  • While I enjoy MvC2, it is not the arcade savior it’s thought out to be, because it ostracizes new players so badly.
  • As enjoyable as Lufia 2 might be to play, the ending makes it all moot. Worst ending ever.
  • 4Kids actors in Valkyrie Profile kills any enjoyment to be found.
  • Metroid Fusion is the best 2D Metroid game.
  • Mega Man 9 is a step backward.
  • Melty Blood and Guilty Gear are not fun games.

Gamecube’s tenure was the most annoying gaming moment in recent memory. Only because the main supporters for the platform (besides legit Resident Evil fans) were the staunch Nintendo fanboy geeks, that trash Sony and Microsoft about killing gaming or some BS, then shove the stupid Gamecube in your face at parties/get-togethers. The sad reality and irony of the matter is, Gamecube was a glorified PS2… except with the Nintendo logo on it, half of the games, and a controller that looks like it was thrown in a microwave.

About gaming = nostalgia… I prefer games based on timing and reflexes, and a system that keeps track of your timing and reaction performance during the game (through score or other achievements). And I always will. Those are the games that I play over and over again for years, while I only play story-heavy games no more than twice. Older games have a much larger selection of that type of gameplay I like… although newer games have better ranking systems and better rewards (Achievements/Trophies, online rankings, unlockable content etc) than back in the day.

Wrong.

Ogre Battle was the only SRPG worth mentioning until Disgaea came out.

Get’cho facts straight.

I don’t disagree, but care to elaborate?

That had nothing to do with the demise of the Dreamcast at all.

-In 1998/1999, most computers shipped with standard CD/DVD-ROM drives, and CD burners for PC’s still cost in upwards of $300.

-File-sharing apps such as Kazaa, Limewire, eMule, Bittorent, etc did not yet exist.

-The vast majority of the world was still on dial-up, so not only were DC Isos harder to find, the downloads would take bloody ages, and that’s considering your connection didn’t time out before they finished.

Bro that’s all ignoring the fact that everyone knew a guy that sold DC SB discs for a buck or two

Super Mario 64 was glitchy garbage with a shitty camera, still dont know how people think this game is great.

Comix Zone is an awesome game.

heavenly sword has one of the bestest storylines and acting in vg history. the game is too good, but i guess kinda short. i loved every second of it.

The Nippon Ichi strategy RPGs are hot garbage. Drowning a player in systems, sub-systems, levelling, and re-levelling is not sound design, it’s just trashy Japanese-style grind gaming (not that the grinding mentality is unique to Japanese devs, mind you). The stories or characters are SOMETIMES endearing, but not often. Really all those games are overrated and don’t even touch the original FFT or ESPECIALLY the remake on PSP (flawed as those two titles are).

Castle Crashers is the best side-scrolling beat-em-up ever. And not just because it’s recent. (Buggy as hell though; can’t wait for the patch.)

Gamers who actually pay for DLC that is basically just a 1K ā€œenablerā€ file for content already on the disc are suckers. If you STOP BUYING THAT SHIT, Namco-Bandai might just stop doing it because they know it won’t work.

All game devs deserve feedback, and any dev that refuses to accept it is out of touch with reality.

Just because you like a game (or movie, or anything) doesn’t mean it’s good. Just because you dislike something doesn’t mean it’s bad. Similarly, there’s a difference between what entertains you about a game/movie/whatever vs. its merits and flaws compared to other media of its type. Finally, it’s perfectly okay to say, ā€œI like X game, but I don’t think it’s very goodā€ and the inverse.

PSO was a fluke. Sonic Team couldn’t get it right again if they tried (or got lucky again). But PSO is very heavily flawed regardless.

If a Wii or a DS game is entirely Wiimote/stylus driven, but does not use enough of that functionality to warrant excluding the option for a more traditional control scheme (or including a scheme but having it limited in some way that needn’t be there), that is a FLAW. And it is a FLAW because had that option been there, you could still have chosen the Wiimote/stylus if you wanted to. That you can ā€œget used to itā€ does nothing to invalidate this. Games that do this include the first DS Castlevania, the upcoming Tales of Symphonia sequel on the Wii, Mario Hoops, and Metroid Prime 3, amongst others. Games that do the whole Wiimote/stylus thing RIGHT and in such a way that you don’t need a classic scheme include Mario Galaxy, Elite Beat Agents, and Lock’s Quest. Smash Bros. is the king, though, letting you play with one of four schemes (despite needing better controller customization).

Despite what I just said, Brawl still sucks.

If Apple announced an iGame console Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo would be seriously afraid.

XBLA > PSN > WiiWare. And yes, I’m COMPLETELY AWARE of a 360’s failure rate. Also, I played both Super Stardust HD and The Last Guy. The former is really good, the latter is stupid, and neither makes PSN better just by itself.

Braid’s existential, mysterious story >>>>>>>>> (imagine about a billion greater than signs here) >>>>>>> Evangelion’s existential, garbage story.

Yuri Lowell is Batman. Flynn Scifo is Harvey Dent.

Regardless, the Tales series is still old. Only the coop multiplayer drives me to play them.

Ive never once understood the complaint of ā€œshitty cameraā€ in sm64. You have to remember it was like, the first game doing something like that.

-X-COM is a top 10 game of all time

  • Dragon Warrior 1 is just as good as Final Fantasy 1.

-007 TWINE’s multiplayer is better than Goldeneye’s.

-Baldur’s Gate Series is better than the Final Fantasy series.

  • Mega Man is nothing compared to Bionic Commando. Mega Man didn’t deserve more than 3 games. Not that much fun.

  • Outfoxies is one the coolest games most gamers have never heard of.

FFT remake is utter garbage.
