Man, SEGA probably fired them. “You guys are too fucking good. You’re fired.” They probably work for Sony now.
Because whenever anyone talks about it now they make it seem like it was one of the greatest systems ever, and we have been unlucky in seeing it’s and ultimately Sega’s demise.
The truth is however, if marvel and other then exclusive fighters weren’t on it, nobody here would give a shit. It would be Gamecube tier.
The best part is that it had more playable games than the Failcube.
Exactly. That Marvel and Soul Calibur happened to be on DC was what accidentally made the console “great” to us on SRK. Other than that, there wasn’t shit worth playing, and all you had was SEGA’s classic “support,” where they would continue to release shoddy merchandise too early and kill their own systems.
What really killed Genesis? Saturn. What killed Saturn? Dreamcast. What killed Dreamcast? It sucked.
This is the same bullshit release schedule that MS is now following. 360?the shittiest console ever built?stomped out Xbox.
While I agree on both points, I’m pretty sure that MS won’t make the same mistake next gen. MS actually come out with a decent console last gen and I haven’t ran into any problems on that one. There was some DVD drive problems and the power supply problem that some people ran into but those were resolved quickly. All-round a reliable system (albeit huge)
Genesis was dead before Saturn came along. It was killed by adding the CD and later 32X attachments but not supporting them, along with the popularity of the PSX. But along these same lines, how often has a company actually allowed it’s previous system to run full-course before releasing a new one? It’s not common for any company. NES did keep getting games for a few years after SNES release, and PS2 is still getting games now (but mostly half-assed ports and crappy movie tie-ins).
And Genesis had some good games. Sonic 2 and 3&K, Comix Zone, Shinobi, Rocket Knight Adventures, Sparkster, Castlevania Bloodlines, Shining Force, Vectorman, Altered Beast, Golden Axe… Games are what make a good or bad system, and Genesis had games.
Gamecube was a good system too DS.
No, it wasn’t. I only owned 5 games for it. And RE4 and Viewtiful Joe were the only two good games I played on it.
That’s funny because Saturn released on the day Sony announced PSX. Your timeline must have shitty graphics.
But that’s “okay,” right?
I think all the overrating is done by like, the 12 or so hardcore shenmue fans on the internet. Other than that, the DC was a very solid system. Like the cube, it didn’t have much 3rd party support, the games it DID have though were much, much fucking better than anything the gc ever shit out.
I had the most fun with the DC, closely followed by the SNES.
Okay, but nonetheless Genesis was already mostly dead due to lack of support for CD and 32X add-ons. Also you ignored everything else there.
Just because you didn’t like a whole lot of games for it doesn’t mean that other people didn’t. There were several pretty good games on it, especially for just shitting around and having fun with when friends came over.
And from a tech standpoint it had quick load times, a good controller, and better graphics than the PS2 (since so many of you seem to care about that stuff).
I never owned a Genesis (SNES kid. ), and some of my friends had it, so it was like this lost, forbidden treasure that I only saw once in a blue moon. Delicious. Also, I remember when it first came out, I got my parents to rent it for me from Blockbuster, along with Sonic and Chuck Rock. So I don’t have much to say in that department.
I would like to say, however, that I really enjoyed my Gamecube. Sure, eventually Xbox kind of surpassed it, but Melee, Pikmin, Luigi’s Mansion, Metroid Prime, and RE 4 were all succesfull and fun games.
GC had a good controller? Good laughs people
Nostalgia is the stupidest thing in the world. People need to wake up and realize that old school gaming sucked.
Memorizing patterns was never fun, and we only did it back in the day because there was nothing better.
As were Super Monkey Ball, Rogue Leader, F-Zero GX, Wind Waker and several more that I’m too tired to remember.
Edit: I liked the GC controller although the lack of second shoulder button on the left was confusing???
You act like all old school games were about memorizing patterns.
Also, the Dreamcast owned, it was way better then the Gamecube with or without it’s fighting game lineup and it wasn’t around nearly as long.
If it wasn’t fun people would’ve done something else. Watched TV, read a book or comic, etc. You know you enjoyed it back in the day. Besides, a lot of older games were a mix of fast and skillful reaction + pattern memorization.
These days, most games are laughably easy by comparison. And while they can certainly still be fun, oftentimes they feel bogged-down by unnecessary time-wasting content put in there to replace the lack of difficulty. Seriously, as fun as R&CF was for the most part, don’t tell me that you enjoyed hunting down the Everybody Dance Now skill point for example. Or having to level up all of the weapons, even the shitty ones, for another skill point.
Besides, everyone with a heart has feelings of nostalgia for things they enjoyed when they were younger, even if on a technical standpoint they don’t exactly like them anymore.
I dont buy the games are easier now arguement, that shit is history clouding peoples minds.
They are. Along with being able to save (which is nice, I’ll give it that), most games are also providing infinite lives, more frequent checkpoints, and often more broken combat engines… They really are easier. For every DMC3 made, there’s 10 well, Ratchet & Clanks (which I also enjoy, but lord they are easy).
A game that you can save and get unlimited tries at is obviously much easier then one where you only get 3 tries and have to start over again from the beginning. It’s cheap, but you can’t deny that it’s harder.
I hate it when people call themselves gamers when all they play is Guitar Hero.
