Actually I didn’t considering I never said smash was balanced just that it was more balanced then some other games like 3s and marvel for example that is fact not opinion. You say tourney smash sucks I say it doesn’t that’s difference of opinion.
Where did you get sc2 devolves into that? I played the hell out of sc n sc2 since launch still do occasionally (only 3d fighters i like) I’m no pro at the game but I can tell you it’s not just two people walking in a circle for a minute with the first aggressor to lose. (dread charge mixups much?)
I think SSBB is a joke, but I’m with orochizoolander. If you mathematically compared tourney top 8’s in SSB, 3s and Marvel, you’d conclude that it is more balanced.
More than half the top 8 at Evo in 3s was Chun Li. The vast majority of top Marvel teams have at least two of Mag/Storm/Sent/Cable. All top 8 used different mains in SSBB.
With that been said, balance is not necessary for a video game to be good at a competitive level. If MvC2 was just MSP vs MSP, and 3s was just Chun vs Chun, they’d still both be better (competitive) fighting games than SSBB.
WTF, Dreamcast wasn’t a strong seller at all. At least not after launch. Actually it didn’t matter how well DC sold. Sega ‘died’ from the aftermath of the Saturn disaster… but their parent company (CSK) kept them on life support. Most of Dreamcast’s R&D expenses came from CSK out-of-pocket. When CSK’s founder (chairman and strong supporter of Sega) died, the company washed their hands of Sega. Which forced them into survival mode, slashing every wasteful project and propositioning their former console competitors for 3rd-party support. Then Sammy snatched up Sega and robbed them of all creativity in the interest of staying profitable.
and it had nothing to do with piracy…
dreamcast died because of piracy and nothing but piracy. no one bought games because it was so easy to just download/buy bootleg for $10. and there was no 3rd party support because of piracy.
it had partly to do with piracy. You see the guy who released the code was former Sega employee. He only did it because he got inside info that Sega was abandoning their console (and dude was going to lose his job) so he got pissed and released the code.
it also had to do with poor 3rd party support. There was nothing but arcade-y type games coming out, and while there were gems such as Skies of Arcadia, there were also a lot of filler-type games. Nothing really as great as future PS2 titles.
They can beg to differ all they want, but they all sucked. Controller design was trash on all those (just like Xbox’s), and they all failed due to SEGA’s inability to support their own shit. Buying a SEGA was the equivalent of throwing your money away back then.
What are you talking about the Genesis and Saturn controllers were great. Sony ripped off the japanese saturn controller and put some shoulder buttons on it to make it “different”. To bad they didnt steal the dpad as well. Now the DC controller they were on something when they came up with that.
If you liked fighting games then you obviously owned(or still own) a Saturn and DC. I still own both and I enjoyed the shit out of them when it came to fighting games.
The Genesis had full support from SEGA. The problem was that SEGA didn’t support the peripherals at all. That’s where they fucked up and started going downhill bit by bit. The Saturn and DC were just unfortunate casualties of the Sony hype machine. And yes, all the SEGA consoles were good. If anything, SEGA is the godfather to most of the shit you see now in regards to consoles. They were ahead of their time; that was their main problem.
DS: Sega also had the worst marketing department ever. They were doing hot with all their anti SNes commercials then all of a sudden nothing. It is like they decided marketing didnt matter anymore.
