Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

probably because theres so many versions out of the game that they don’t feel like they have the ‘definitive’ copy to play and practice on. When I was playing GGX2 at first, got pretty decent at it, next thing I know, Reload came out and I didn’t want to have to buy another import and then Slash and Accent Core came out and it was already too late.

so wait a minute. You say devoid of games, yet, you don’t even have a Playstation 3 to shop for any of their games. So how can you say the PS3 is devoid of games? Theres over 10 games I want to buy for it right now. The Xbox right now is devoid of games as well. Apart from multi-platform and non-triple A games that is. Everything else that you cite will be labelled as old as its most likely a game thats been ported to PC or have been beaten many times over, for months now. I may be making a return to the Xbox, but that doesn’t mean I like talking about it with other Xbox-only owners. This is the kind of crap that keeps me on PS3 topics (when it comes to consoles) and on PS3forums because anyone with any sense of knowledge about the game industry are Sony gamers as they most likely have the wallet to have more than 1 console. It’s also the reason I am buying the 360 Arcade instead of the Pro. No reason to talk to anybody on Live. I’ll deal out Soul Calibur asswhoopin’s worldwide and not have a damn thing to say to a 360 fanboy.

No comp here for GG, thus no motivation.

Not true.

Apparently, some lucky bastards somehow managed to download it onto their PS3, last week. They got a taste of what it’s like to be a X360 owner without having to buy one. Most people got sick of it and wiped it off of their hard drive, though.

I like to play footsies.

OHh yes I really get to piss some people off now

Guilty Gear contrary to popular belief IS NOT BALANCED. In fact 2 maybe 3 character dominate every GG game that has ever been released. But keep perpetuating the myth. Probably the same people that think 3S is balanced.

  • Jak 2 & 3 sucked. It’s like this horrible mish-mash of platforming, GTA, and DMC, none of which got any real focus in implementation and all of which feels shoddy and half-assed. The city is a pain in the butt to navigate, the cars handle like mules, and the auto-targeting on the guns licks balls too. But that doesn’t matter when the Peacekeeper dominates everything once you get it. Homing instant kill that spreads chain lightning on impact? Not to mention that the game doesn’t drop ammo for weapons that you have full supplies for, so if you keep all your other ammos topped off constantly, you always get more Peacekeeper ammo back with every shot. The story was interesting though, I will give it that.

  • Super Stardust HD > Geometry Wars

XB360’s hardware faults are a big problem, of this there’s no doubt. But a ton of great games are on the system that I can’t get anywhere else, plus the entire online setup, friend system, arcade, etc. is super-slick. If RROD wasn’t around there’s be no real downsides to owning a 360. Now, if you’ll excuse me, my 360’s warranty, which was extended the last time it failed, is about to run out, so I’m going to wrap it in a wet towel and gets me a free refurb.

Kuja was one big plot manipulation device. Yeah, he blows up a planet… but the best he can do is knock out your team with Ultima, the same team who then gets up to beat the supposedly-more-of-a-threat Necron? It’s like in Star Ocean 3: evil “gods” that are really just avatars of a server purging program can take out CAPITAL SHIPS, and your METAL SWORDS and BARE FISTS are supposed to be a match? Kuja was cool, don’t get me wrong, and FF9, while not great, was certainly far from a bad game, but Kuja never felt genuinely menacing, just forced. Even FF7 (which I hate) set up Sephiroth (who is overrated) as convingly menacing.

Kefka’s character is beautifully executed. He starts the game off weak, barely able to fight your party, but absorbs so much power via a plot mechanic that remains consistently true to the game’s canon that his ascent to godhood, while surprising, is completely believable. Not to mention that the Returners helped him get there, a subtlty of the plot not immediately apparent. Kefka’s a great character up until the final boss, where FF6 dropped the ball a bit (epic music and setting, great allusion to The Divine Comedy, but Kefka no longer absorbing/negating magic + dying to one properly built/equipped character’s Attack command + no final dialogue = WTF). Villains are what define the heroe’s sacrifice, what the heroes must give up in order to be heroes, and Kefka is the personification of this necessary sacrifice to defeat evil.

Roman cancelling. That pretty much sums it up for me. Arcana Heart has a far better cancelling system that doesn’t require obscene amounts of dexterity (I can homing cancel and combo people on a PAD, that’s how much better it is). Plus it has characters like Heart and Saki that are super-easy to play. If Guilty Gear had a roman cancel button (I’m dead serious) and/or a brief pause during an RC, I’d be all over it.

Yes, I fall under the whole “make fighting games easier to get into” Sirlin-esque school. I have an idea in my head for a 2D fighter without motions, just button presses w/ joystick directions. Not that I think that idea will ever get realized, but it should accurately sum up my thoughts on the matter.

You mean kinda like… Super Smash Bros. series?

Kinda. I’m thinking more of that sort of system applied to a traditional 2D fighter (directions + presses for Hadouken, Shoryuken, etc.) that isn’t based entirely on ringouts like Smash. Plus, I’m not a big fan of playing 2D games on analog sticks (the Wiimote option in Brawl is terrible, though, so I have no real choice).

While on the topic of Smash, I get to take some on-topic potshots. :bgrin:

  • Fuck Melee. There’s no sense of accomplishment in programming my muscle memory to do wave dashes and SHFFLing. I might as well go play FF11 if I’m feeling that masochistic.

  • Brawl did away with all of that… yet, those advanced tactics have their merits, and instead of keeping them in the game whilst making them more accessible to the masses, they were axed. And new mechanics NOBODY asked for (tripping) were introduced, with no option to turn it off. Fuck Sakurai. If I could get away with it I’d punch him in the face.

  • There’s no excuse–none–for Brawl not having DLC.

  • Nintendo giving Smash to another developer would make me very happy.

Wave dashing was easy as hell. You could see someone wave dash and figure it out yourself and be able to pull it off easy. It’s not a challenge at all.

None. Not a damn fighter has been released that deserves to be called the best. They all have stupid flaws.

Of course not. It has the same combo for same weapons since all Dante had was the same sword with weight differences, no emotion(ROBOT), boring boss battles(whooo demon tanks!), bad lock on’s, shit story, Dante doesn’t have an array of weapons like in DMC1, Lucia’s path was just as bad if not worse. So yeah DMC2 wasn’t that bad… if you hated DMC1 that is.

Oddly I do not hate GG. I hate the fact that every damn Japanese dev team thinks it’s a brilliant idea to make characters suck ass on purpose(looking at you SF4 with Viper/Fuerte/Rufus) and then people want to scream balance. You know what’s sad? DOA gets so much shit yet it’s one of the most (TOP 5) balanced fighting games out there. How sad is that?

…okay you can do that in GG except you can follow up with a combo. Big deal.

All the characters are usable in high level play but the demigod tiers ruin the balance. It’s the fact that most of cast is okay but the tops are way too overpowered akin to SNK bosses even. I play a lot of fighters and I know GG is more balanced than most of them but teh top tiers are far worse than any of the top tiers in other games.

RE:Arcana Heart. I played it. The same people who played 3S, GG, KOf were playing it so I thought I’d give it a shot. AH bores the shit outta me. It is easier than GG like a lot of games are but AH bores me. Is it deep? Yes. does it have what every other fighter has that you can/would like? Yeah it does. It just bores me. And with AH2 coming I’m giving it another shot. Hopefully Kamui isn’t ass and Petra is fun to play and isn’t ass too.

Samurai Shodown is over-rated. It’s one of the most boring series every created. I’ll play any game before I give my final verdict but damn SS is boring as fuck. I’ve watched videos of it from across the world, seen top level play, combos(?), everything and damn that series is boring. And the music sucks balls too.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Testament and Eddie have a general superiority to most characters, but the difference between 3s and GG is that 3s has characters that are just completely unusable. Ones that will NEVER win a tournament, despite how good a player you are. 90% of tournament winners are Yun, Chun or Ken.
GG has that to a much lesser extent.
I see Sol, Ky, Slayer, Baiken, and O. Sol win tourneys at nearly the same rate as Eddie/Testament and they range from high to mid-low.
So in the sense that there are those annoying demigod-tier characters to deal with, yeah it’s pretty unbalanced, but past that mark there are much much more characters that are usable at high-level competitive play.

Wave dashing is a fancy name given by retards desperately trying to make smash seem more than what it is.“advanced technique” rofl

You know why’s that? because the Smash Bros series is a “party game” first, everything else > second.Don’t blame the guy for trying to make it more of what it was supposed to be in the first place.

I find Kefka, Kuja and that guy in SO3 (Luther or LUcifer? I always mix it up) forced, to varying degrees. Kefka in particular, actually. Probably because out of those 3, he got his power boost really suddenly (Kuja got his during his epiphany or whatever it was, and that SO3 guy was already God so no power boost for him). It doesn’t help that his characterisation never made him more than just some mad guy (though I believe some NPC tells you exactly why he became mad…all two lines of it). A mad guy that wants to destroy hope by taking more than a year to destroy the world…and didn’t destroy hope anyway.

To me, a villain is epitomized by his actions, and that one year timeline gap, where apparently nothing is changed from the first time Kefka rearranged the world map till the time you’re given control again (where nothing is changed) hurts his credibility as someone who wants to destroy hope. Same goes with the SO3 guy and Kuja post-Trance.

About the Ultima thing, some fan speculation has said your party actually died from Ultima and fight Necron in a sort of afterlife state. I don’t know more about this, and not that this validates the whole Ultima thing anyway.

Back on topic: The Red Star is one of the best beat em ups ever.

I like the fact that people are arguing other’s exact reason for the thread’s existence.

Poster 1 - I love Guilty Gear

Poster 2 w/ a vengeance! - You should not like GG, and these are the reasons why.

I can’t comment on all these FF discussions because frankly, I can’t remember a lot about the games, and I find it hard to go back and play the games nowadays.

I’m on the fence about FFXIII, not digging the whole female lead, but the world seems interesting and the talent on board is pretty nice too(Yoshinori Kitase producing) but then you have Motomu Toriyama directing…same guy who lead FFX-2 so yeah…

I’m a little more excited about vXIII though, I mean shit you play a King, but overall not expecting anything earth shattering.

Sounds like every video game related discussion ever

FFX-2 was the shit, so yeah, FFXIII!

…well, I’m not really anticipating it, since we haven’t heard news about it in ages. =\

IMO, it’s interesting to hear a more detailed explanation into certain things. Debates are fun times when carried out properly.

I think you are stupid, and here are the reasons why:

  1. The above post.

  2. Your user name.

  3. :woot::lovin::lovin::mad::looney::angel::lovin::wgrin::wink::rolleyes::rolleyes::lovin:

I think those reasons are more then detailed enough to explain my views.

Darkstalker, I am excited for FF13 too, if I don’t have a PS3 by the time that comes out, I’ll have one then.

FFX-2 was so fun because the battle system was so good. Battles ended in like 3 seconds, it was so fast.

I’ll give you that one, I hate my damn user name too.
