Same can be said about GTA series, but I’m just sayin.
I’d never finished FF VII…
Loved Cibernator on SNES the best console ever!!!
I’m with you on that, which is sorta why I get tired of GTA’s pretty fast. The missions are way more varied, though.
Metal Warriors is one of the best mech games ever made. My friends and I have spent uncounted hours in the versus mode.
Tuff E Nuff on SNES wasn’t that good of a fighting game, but the replay cam was an awesome idea. Also, some of the musical tracks are pretty memorable, including Kotono’s and Dolf’s.
That’s exactly my point.
Although I do not have an entry level computer I dont see the need to openly say that a game is “The best looking EVER made” if most medium level computers cant run it, and they have a lot of games that arguably look better (to me at least). I still stand by my point about Crysis being overrated for what it is, a very good looking game.
One what are your system specs, and two what to your knowledge is a medium level computer. It does seem like you are crying a little too much. I mean you don’t have to play Crysis, but the game does (on my comp atleast) looks better than MGS4. Now, I’m not saying that its a good game, I’m just saying it does look phenomenal.
The game isn’t the greatest game ever, but it is the greatest looking game ever. Even MSG4 pales in comparison.
Just because a nice car cost a lot of money, doesn’t mean it’s not worth what it does cost.
Unlimited space (or more realistically - a lot more space than consoles will ever have) blows the door wide open for what is possible for the quality of a game. No matter what type of console setup you have, the game itself, could look infinitely better on a PC at higher resolution and texture quality. This has been the case since the dawn of console gaming. The only difference now is that consoles are design to be more PC like and have PC like features.
FYI, PS3 is also getting a large modding community with UT3. In fact, all PC and PS3 mods for that game are cross-compatible.
My point was that I honestly believe that as far as gameplay and graphics are concerned, “great” games released in the present will mostly be an improvement over those games we hailed as “great” in the past.
I just find it hard to judge past games based on what we see being released now (esp. given new innovations in gameplay/graphics).
Crysis scales down madly, as I said earlier.
Call of Duty 4 has more strict system requirements, for God’s sake.
If you’re trying to run Crysis high end on a mid-spec PC, then no wonder you’re complaining.
EDIT:
Sep: Yeah, PS3 modding community for UT’s not bad. Wonder if there will be whole game conversions.
Jamerson: I just don’t think it was great, ever. If you did, that’s fine. I didn’t.
I mean, I have a bone to pick with lots more recent games too. It’s just that, in the context of this thread, they probably won’t be all that unpopular opinions, as I find nostalgia gives one hell of a bright sheen to older games. I probably suffer from this myself in some ways, as Gunstar Heroes is obviously the greatest game ever.
I don’t give a fuck about Resident Evil. Survival-horror as a genre makes me yawn. If there are demons/magic/wizardry I might be interested but if it is just a mysterious virus, zombies and guns fuck off.
I know what shadows look like. I don’t feel like going through all the rooms in a dark creepy manion/dungeon/whatever trying to find a key so I can go further into the dark creppy brown mansion.
Metal Gear Solid is a boring game series.
I don’t understand why ps3, wii, and 360 get so much hate with the impressive library of toptier titles that have come between them. I guess it’s considered cool to hate on what’s new and reject everything that came out after 95…kinda like rap music. So keep on playing that 15 yr old japanese title that no one but you has heard of and hate on anything with new that threatens to wash away the deluge of nostalgia on your favorite title:tup:
I love all types of games from all different systems new and old (yes even my vitual boy, remember red alert and mario tennis?.) But out of curiosity am I the only one on srk who actually likes 360, ps3, and wii?
As a pc gamer I don’t get why other pc gamers hate on consoles so much, yes technically they are far inferior but I think the player base and online service next gen consoles have get some pc gamers bitter and jealous. For example some fps games I prefer on pc like UT3 and some I prefer on console like cod4.
Am I the only one who thinks crysis is a fun game? I can run it on mid-high settings on my mid level laptop and although the game is gorgeous I also enjoy the aggressive AI in the single player and power struggle multiplayer is really fun and cleverly balanced.
I like PS3 and Wii. I have to admit that not as many titles have grabbed me for either system as some of my older consoles, but there are still some really great games. And more upcoming on the horizon.
I think a lot of people know that the best games of this and last generation blow the shit out of most of the classics we hold dear to our heart which is why a lot of people will never admit cod4>goldeneye LOL.
Nostalgia is toptier yo.
When it comes to ranking games like that, I go off one thing - fun.
I can honesty say that IMO Unreal Tournament 99 is/was much more funnier than any modern day FPS I’ve played. It has nothing to do with nostalgia.
Then again, the industry and people’s taste have changed. I can’t stand these team-based, large map multiplayer FPS. It has nothing to do with nostalgia, it’s just what everyone but me seems to want to play.
That’s why Halo 1 >> any of the other two Halo’s by a large margin. It went from small map, closed quarters combat, to over the top large map frantic bullshit.
You know what the problem with the new consoles are? Uncreative games. Mass Effect was a creative game, but what about the other part of the X360s game library. What game have you played that you can truly say is the best of its kind. The answer is none. The same is with the PS3 and the Wii. They offer nothing new, and that is their problem. The Wii hurts from developers using the same motion technique in every game. Its not creative guys, its just not. Super Mario Galaxy falls under most of the N64 games because of its use of the Wiimote and nunchuck. The PS3 library is nothing but a very nuetered version of the PS2 library. Again taking no gambles and no creativity is shown. Gaming was at one point about pushing the envelope creativity and gameplay wise. Now, the only two envelopes that are getting pushed are graphics and adult content.
Which brings me to this idea. Fuck Adult content. People are literally trying to hard to please these young teenagers with this so called “Adult content”. If it was adult content, give a damn challenge to the game so one with a mature mind can enjoy it. Instead we have just blood and sex. I get enough of that in my life.
I love my 360. Guitar hero, rockband, the downloadable games, (CV:SoTN again)
Cod4, Halo3, GTA4, wtf this is a great system. Mine is broken atm, so I picked up Disgea 2 and I can’t put it down hehe.
I used to be the same way as you, but I’ve recently picked up a PSP and have been playing through SNES and PSX games, and a lot of these games are genuinely more enjoyable than most PS3/360 games, despite a 10-15 year gap in technology. It almost seems like back then, when games didn’t take nearly as much resources and R&D, games needed more than just technological muscle to create a masterpiece.
I’m not saying that this isn’t true with games nowadays. MGS4 is pretty godly. However, at the end of the day, there’s more pressure to impress with aggressive advertising and state-of-the-art technology it feels that some of the stuff that make legendary video games legendary has been lost in time.
It’s almost like Hollywood then and now. I doubt we’ll ever see masterpieces like Godfather, Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, To Kill a Mockingbird, etc… There are still some very good movies being made, but there’s more incentive to make movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and Spider Man, while few people give a shit about greats like There Will Be Blood. Technology and hype is enough to sell. You don’t have to make masterpieces anymore.
I agree about there not being as much creativity in gaming as there used to be but there are still MANY quality creative games from this gen and last.
Like thesix said, when it comes to games the #1 most important factor is fun and a lot of games from this and last generation are just outright more fun to play then some of the classic oldschool titles everyone here seems to hype up.
(Read I didn’t say all or most.)
I completely agree with this post, however like I said to dash, as long as there are a ggod amount of fun games I’m not complaining and this gen is certainly not disappointing, I can name at least 10 games of the top of my head from this gen that shit on almost every other game I ever played.
All this coming from a guy who’s favorite game of all time is sonic2 and 2nd favorite is sonic 3.
Yes I do play dat madden no I don’t like it better then sor2:rofl:
