Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

Oh god, I hate treasure hunting. The thing about it is, I don’t want to do it, but I have to.
I just finished collecting all of the star coins in New SMB. I had already bought the new BG’s (yay! Useless stuff!) and I was expecting a big bonus when I finally finished. Nothing. Great, thanks Nintendo!

What I also don’t like is games that make you finish the game 700 times in a row without saving, or complete any other unethically difficult tasks in order to get everything.

Also, why do games nowadays have to make use of every single button on the controller? It’s okay to give one button several functions depending on the situtation. I don’t need a seperate button if I want my character to pick his nose or something, because in the heat of the game, I can’t remember all of that shit!

-Am I the only one who thinks that GTA is just a boring and shitty excuse for a game? Sure you can do all these wonderful things but you have no sense of control. The whole damn thing feels like Russian Roulette with 6 hollowpoint bullets in the chamber of a gun with a hair trigger. Shitty controls and even shittier physics(that were ALMOST rectified in GTA4) just makes this game unpleasant for me. I guess this game lets people play out their fantasies of being a badass when in actuality they are complete pussies.

-I think that Forza Motorsport is boring and repetitive and offers no incentive for me to keep playing. But that is not nearly the bad point about it…It was the shitty crash physics. Everyone and their mommies cried about how unrealistic GT was for being able to crash into a wall at 150 MPH and drive away. Can you guess what I did in Forza with the crash modeling on?

-Beyond Good and Evil is a half assed, boring and repetitive piece of shit. Can someone tell me why the fuck this game is underrated? I’d love to find that out.

…And before I forget Crysis(the game that PC fagboys suck off for no reason) is a useless piece of shit because it makes your normal PC explode. And for what it is, a game that demonstrates the new and improved “CryEngine 2” it actually serves to illustrate how utterly useless the engine is in a REAL world situation with hardware design flaws and limitations are abound. All that unjustified cocksucking and MGS4 STILL looks better than you Crysis…Why?

Crysis scales down ridiculously low.

And MGS4 looks better depending on exactly what machine is running Crysis, and is incomparable because the specs of a PS3 is consistent, but the specs of a PC isn’t. A better comparison would be to say that, say, Call of Duty 4 looks better on lower end comps (which it does, due to a less high-spec physics engine and smaller game world). Crysis still looks better on high end though, and the physics engine is great.

Biggest problem with Crysis is the huge game world that is available at any one map that can be seen at any one time (with zoomed in binocs/sniper to boot), AND those ridiculous shadows (especially the shadows). Those are the things that kills Crysis for most lower end PCs. Living with a more reasonable draw distance and lack of shadows doesn’t make the game any less playable though.

And on that note, I gotta commend Capcom on their DMC4 trial for PC. That shit scales pretty damn low and well too.

I have never beaten a GTA game before. Nor have I made to this “2nd” island at all either. I just use GTA as a time killer.

Jin has hella priority on everything. His priority + damage is what made him top tier. His mix up game was lacking compared to other characters, but it didn’t matter because his priority and damage were so good. You won’t see a tier list That doesn’t have Jin as the only god tier. Nina and steve were close second if the damage settings were normal. JFLS has ridiculous priority and will track you like Chris Hansen. Parry lets him deal with Steve poke bullshit, 1,2 and 2,1 is easy spam.

ALMOST rectified? what the fuck? thats the Euphoria engine your on about…

LOL true, but when they came out they were unbelievable.

Shenmue was hilarious to me, even at the time it was a new franchise. It’s right there in the same category as the infamous Guile Speech. If any game needs a resurrected MST3k special presentation, it’s Shenmue…it’s so wide open.

a minor one—In Halo 3, nearly all the armor variants are better and more interesting design-wise than the default Master Chief and Elites. The E.V.A. helmet is superior to MC’s normal helmet design(which looks like a future motocross biker helmet). On another note…it’s funny that MC was more badass in that “Haloid” video than he ever was in the games.

and oh yes…it’s worth repeating…Geometry Wars beats the shit out of Ikaruga. At least Geo Wars is challenging in a way that still manages to be fun. Ikaruga is just bullshit, and stops really being fun about a day or so after playing.

*Even for the times…Joust wasn’t that great. It was an “ok” game at best.

-Ninja Gaiden is not really as difficult as gamers tend to make it out to be. The way I see it, Tecmo was incapable of actually finding ways to make a game legitimately hard, so they decided to just remove save points and make it so that the potion shops were always half the world away. The combat wasn’t even that hard considering that nearly all the enemies could be beaten using only a few of the moves. While I enjoy gaming, I don’t find it enjoyable at all to have to go through the same stretch of the game repeatedly because I got hit by some off-screen exploding shuriken. Things like that serve to make into a chore. There is a fine line between a fun, fulfilling challenge and a tedious hassle, and Ninja Gaiden crossed that line on several occasions.

Yes almost rectified, meaning it could have been polished more because I was able to spot obvious flaws with driving and other physics. I don’t give a fuck if its the Utopian engine I still think the game is grossly overrated.

I KNEW I forgot to gripe about something earlier. On top of all this I would like to add that most attacks can be spammed after you block an enemy attack. I sat there trying to figure out why was everyone saying that this game was hard thinking I was retarded or something.

I agree with GTA games being ridiculously over-rated, but then again, most games with that ammount of renown are the same way. GTA in particular though, I only beat San Andreas(I’ve played them all though), can’t even being myself to finish IV. I dunno, it’s just boring. It’s like the game’s freedom is miles wide but only inches deep. Sure, you can go anywhere you want and cause havoc, but really, for what? Sure, it’s a time killer but that can be done in any game(being a time killer I mean), you don’t need a huge city. The missions themselves are repetitive, since they are all like “I don’t like this guy, go kill him!”, over and over again. I’m not going to even start with this game’s silly excuse for a multiplayer.

Point being, if I want an open ended, completely non-linear game with a huge world, I’ll play World of Warcraft. At least, it’s more polished, and the freedoms you’re allowed there are a lot more interesting then “Hey! I can shoot pedestrians and be a taxi driver!”. Not to mention it’s at least 3 times as big as any GTA game can ever hope to be.

I feel Super Mario Bros and all Zelda games are overrated

Saints Row>>>GTA series.

Better story, better missions. It’s even funner to just fuck around in SR than in GTA and thats what most people did when they first got gta3. I played Saints Row out of boredom and I just got hooked. It’s the first game in years that made me want to play it all day. The GTA series never got me hooked like that.

I agree with GTA being incredibly overrated. To each his own, I have a friend who loves GTA, hates Metal Gear. I feel the opposite. But those games (GTA) just…Bore me.

And yes, Mario 64 is a tad overrated. To me the pinnacle of Mario games were still SMB 3 and 4.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Seriously?..:rolleyes::rofl:

centipede>all fighting games.

:rofl::rofl: chris hansen

I’m not sure I’d agree with the point on story…but so far it is more fun to do “whatever” in Saint’s Row than the GTA games, even though the law enforcement AI is such cheap shit at times(*their police car or FBI truck will go faster than yours, to make sure they get you in a high speed chase. Their vehicles also have the power of the damn Incredible Hulk when they ram whatever you were driving.)…plus there’s the customization. That whole customization thing alone immediately put it over GTA for me. I might actually get SR2 before getting GTA4. GTA4 currently destroys SR on graphics though.

Since we are talking about overrated shit…

-All the post OoT Zeldas are overrated beyond belief (Wind Waker was good, but too easy and the triforce shard shit was the stupidest shit ever). Game reviewers know this too, but they get punked out by Nintendo fanboys (whats the point of reading a review if you are going to buy it anyways…or get mad if it gets less than a 9 and you haven’t even played it yet?)

-Assasin’s Creed…Niggas say this and that about GTA, but Assasin’s creed just too fucking repetetive.

-MDK2 is a cult classic…but I dont see the big deal

Games that are slept on like shit

-Crackdown
-Eternal Darkness
-Final Fantasy 9 (its fairly popular, but still)
-Sword of the Berserk, best dreamcast game no one gave a fuck about.

Top 5 RPG Male Leads (I rarely play RPGs outside of square so forgive me)

Vyse (Skies of Arcadia)
-He was gangsta without being a “forced badass”, a Ladies Man without being an bitchass, one of my favorite game characters ever because they took an old school mold and made him a character I wanted to see succeed. MAKE A SEQUEL TO THIS SHIT.

Locke (Final Fantasy 6)

  • These Days his character design is bland (offensive character that does shit for the love of women), but in battle that nigga is broken like all hell :rofl:

Characters that shut the fuck up (Chrono, Pokemon Trainer, Isaac from golden sun, Max from Shinning Force)

  • Back in the day, a mute rpg character was the shit because they save you from reading a wall of text, and you could put your own personality behind them.

Sora (kingdom Hearts)
-I think people sleep on his character design. Creating a human protagonist that has great chemistry with Donald Duck and Goofy is a very hard thing to do. His weapon is an original take on the tired sword-style weapon. He didn’t give me no bitchassness either, which made him more likable.

Cloud (Final Fantasy 7)
-You gotta give it to him, outside of Pikachu he is the most recognizable RPG character ever, and back in 97 that bigass sword was the wildest shit I’ve seen in games. Unfortunately he is 5th on my list because he created the whole “metrosexual jrpg male” trend that has yet to die. That’s mos definitely a negative.

For the most part, you could IMAGINE that personality, sure, but it didn’t really affect anything gameplay-wise. This still applies now even, though some games do give you limited choice so you get to see the ramifications of your actions. This would be more appealing if said games didn’t punish you for being an asshole so it’s best to play a goody-two-shoes anyway.

On that note, I think games in general should integrate this split in character personality into their games better. I heard in Bioshock it’s decided by what you do to those little girls, so it’s based off that gameplay decision. The good ending is STILL based on being good, I heard, but that’s more streamlined than having dialogue options, I think.

EDIT: I don’t like the Oblivion/KOTOR games, but I heard they don’t go out of the way to punish you for being an asshole. So that’s a plus point to those games, I guess.
