These days shit is done by voice acting so, the either/or approach that Bioshock/ KOTOR takes are pretty sweet. But back when the genre was text heavy any way to limit it without hurting the story was golden.

Off to a bad start, FFVII was really fucking silly, it had a lot of stupid ass characters, shitty main char, and the materia system sucked ass.
But I could also say the same for a lot of other FFs, and I don’t really have a favorite one so.
The fans are very vocal about the series so yes you could say it’s overrated.

Well in terms of first party I’m on the complete end of this. Different strokes different folks I guess.
I’ve played tons of games and good games. I loved Odin Sphere due to it’s action-SRPG battle system (if that makes sense). The game improved over what Princess Crown did in every way. I think that the majority of people who were dissapointed in it thought that they were getting something else, when in reality they were getting the sequel to Princess Crown (just saying this because all of the problems people complained about are core elements in the series (yes that includes the repeated levels). Though this game is really a “Love or Hate” game due to it being made for such a specific crowd.
I respect Super Turbo as it ended the Street Fighter II saga which gave the run way for the entire fighting genre, I just don’t like the fact that people treat it like it really is one of the best games out there in literal form. I mean to me that is like shooter fans saying that Quake II is one of the best multiplayer First Person Shooters of all-time and can easily stand toe to toe towards Team Fortress II or Unreal Tournament 2004.
No I mean that I prefer 2D games over 3D games.

I like how a broken character with unblockables is tourney legal. Oz in KOF XI gets one unblockable that shit was banned but Eddie? Naw, not him. Potemkin/Testament/Slayer are overpowered like an SNK boss/ST Akuma and yet AC is the greatest game of all time? And of course it’s all fine and dandy because they can be beaten. Hey, ST Akuma can be beaten too. Go ahead and try to get the ST players to let him be legal. Watch that blow up in your face. And lets not forget, ASW made characters that didn’t need to be nerfed in the first place, complete shit in AC. Yeah turning good characters into ass is an A+ in my book.
Maybe that wouldn’t happen if everyone wasn’t trying to be Japanese and mash cr.jab until a hit lands.

Here’s mine:
-Guilty Gear is over-rated. Many try to pass it off as some master class series when it is just as fucked up as any other FG series out there. I haven’t seen such bullshit overpowered characters that bad since SNK bosses. As for it’s balance, a bit above most series and that’s it. GG has nothing that makes it superior to any other series out there.
-ASW isn’t some God tier gaming company. They fucked up everything they worked on. GG, HNK, and SBX. They all are plagued with problems just as bad as any other game.
locke is mid tier in FF6. terra is waaaaaaaay more broke then locke. why do people think locke is hella good because he can do 9999x8? at level 99, any character can kill the last boss in one turn. early, mid, and late game he’s being outclassed by everyone; he has one of the lowest magics (which is the most important stat in the game), highest speed (2nd worst stat in the game behind stamina), besides gaea gear, valient knife, and illumina, his equips suck until he gets level 80+. even with esper boosts, he’ll still be behind the mages in damage (especially when Terra celes and edgar get enhancers and relm gets magus rod). build his vigor, and he won’t have anything to use it with (for example, drill, jumping, pummel, swdtechs, catscratch, etc). on top of that, he can’t hit 128% mblock without aegis shield and illumina.

Are you sure? Last time I checked those games have a healthy fanbase. Especially with fanboys always claiming that later SUikodens are not like 1 and 2 (which is ironic, as 4 and 5 are very VERY similar to 1 and 2).
