Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

If I ever see you in person…can I punch you in the throat?

I want to speak up for FF6, but I can’t say much more than what’s already been said. I’ll say this, though:

Random Townsperson A [at the Returners]: HEY THANKS A LOT ASSHOLES! Way to stop the bad guy from destroying the world! Hey, everyone, how many years since we’ve had a FUCKING APOCALYPSE!? ONE!!!

…just needed to be said.

Still, FF6’s characters are, for the most part, far more believable and convincingly developed than just about any other RPG I’ve ever played. They weren’t all given the Terra/Locke/Celes treatment, and some were just tacked on (Gogo, Umaro, Gau), but they were all true to character, changed convincingly, and acted accordingly to who they were, even the underdeveloped ones.

That’s not to say other RPGs don’t have well-developed characters, but FF6 was just so full of them. What other RPG series has such a cast? Name it, tell me why, and I’ll find and play the shit out of it like I’m redoing with the GBA FF6. FF6’s only real blemish is that, once you get Quick, game over for any boss who dares cross you. With Quick, level 20 is suddenly overpowered.

MOAR UNPOPULAR OPINIONS:

  • Wrex, from Mass Effect, is a better character than any crappy JRPG character you care to mention, except most of the FF6 cast (there’s me rubbing it in), Luke fon Fabre, and maybe Lloyd Irving.

  • BioWare should be given the rights to do an FF6 remake. They should make it on XB360 with extensive dialog trees and swicked voice acting.

  • WoW is the best MMO ever made… BUT it is FAR from the best game ever made.

  • Geometry Wars > Ikaruga

  • Secret of Evermore deserves a remake/rerelease/port. Maybe this generation will realize that it was QUITE FUCKING GOOD.

  • Azure Dreams > Pokemon

  • Any game that doesn’t give you options to change your control scheme does not deserve praise, unless it’s the best freaking game ever made. This is 2008, for christ sake.

  • WoW Paladins should be able to dual wield, and Rogues should be able to equip shields and tank.

  • Lightbringer + Apocalypse + Minerva Bustier + Green Beret + Genji Glove + Master’s Scroll + Trance = GGPO Prep-time Batman

  • Reid is a great main character for the fact that he complains about having to go on the quest at all for like all of disc 1. Once he finds himself on another planet, he realizes he isn’t going home anytime soon.

  • All games with ridiculous amounts of unlockables (coughBrawl, Wii Kartcough) should have a button that just gives you everything, just like the “erase all data” button. Fuck the masochists: I want the game I paid for right fucking now.

Shenmue 1 and 2 has to be the two of the worst aged games ever.

OOT is just ALTTP in 3D and it almost sucks because of it.

Kefka is a clown, hes not cool, hes not funny, hes not deep. He does shit because it makes him laugh and a compelling antagonist he is not.

I love FF7 but Sephiroth sucks for the most part. (CC made hi kind fo cool but meh). I still like him more then Kefka. Neither of them touches Kuja though.

Halo is great and people hate to be “cool”

SOTN is a Super EMtroid Clone and it does it worse to.

yyyyeeesssss

i heard those sega cd choose ur own adventure type games wanna talk to u.

Rise of the Dragon and Willy Bemish sucked.

i remember a kamen rider one…that shit was redonkulously retarded.

Advance 1 is good, and yes, sadly underrated. 2 and 3, on the other hand, suck major donkey dicks.

Two relied WAY too heavily on speed, bottomless pits, and the bitchslap-of-death. The final stage in Advance 2 was also lame, simply rehashing the same retarded bosses you just fought, including the terminal egg saucer.

Advance 3, is equally stupid with its team gimmick trying to ride a mediocre game’s dick (Heroes).

I do agree CD is overrated, though, because mostly, the futures of the first 2 acts per zone are as useless as tits on a tom. All the game boils down to is get to the past ASAP, then track down the generator. Thankfully the bosses are unique, and not the standard ‘hit him 8 times’ fare seen on the Genesis.

Zelda OOT has aged horribly, I just can’t play the game, camera angels are fucking shit, and it feels awkward as hell.

Wrong, halo is an incredibly mediocre FPS.3 was the worst of em all.

  • The Timespillters series can blow most FPS titles out of the water.

  • Fear Effect > Resident Evil (Though I do like 4 a lot)

  • I enjoy JRPGS over the twitch-reflex games that today’s market has. For all you haters just saying you can mash attack and get to the end you’re solely mistake. Try playing Persona 3 where bad guys can KO your party in the FIRST TURN. Sorry but there is strategy involved in these things.

  • The world needs more wacky games like Psychonauts and Katamari Damacy. Titles like Halo and Gears take themselves WAY too seriously.

  • Fighting games with only one or two female characters is just inexcusable. On top of that, fighters that cater to the loli fandom is just BS. There should be a balance between the characters, this is the 21st century for crying out loud.

  • Def Jam Fight for NY is vastly superior than Icon. I want my Blazin moves back.

  • The only good thing that came out of the EX series was Cracker Jack

  • Rival Schools needs another entry. It’s latest incarnation should have voice acting just like the first game.

PS2 Madden >>>>>> 360/PS3 Madden.

I partially agree with Big the Cat. The reason I hated that character so much was because of the incredibly stupid idea to put a minigame of fishing into the world of Sonic…so that assertion is correct in my case; my hatred was based around the game mechanic rather than the character itself. In Sonic Heroes, the character is somewhat redeemed since there is no more fishing…and he actually becomes the “charming/loveable retard” type.

Yes, Pit Fighter was fun…and funny.

Frogger is still the worst game ever to be considered an ol’ school “classic”. I’m continually amazed with how that franchise is apparently still successful/profitable. It just won’t die…Frogger shows up on EVERY system at some point. In 10 years…there will still be Frogger games showing up on the consoles of that era. This pathetic game is eternal…like the developers made a deal with Satan.

I think that Sonic Adventure 1 has aged horribly. Most people who say it’s good is because it was considered good back in 1999. This is not the case now. It’s just as poor as any other 3D Sonic game mentionable.

I think that Star Ocean 3 had a less than stellar battle system. It just seemed rough around the edges IMO, not to mention that the ally AI was complete garbage and would do everything I didn’t want them to do regardless of how I set them up.

Phantom Hourglass is the reason why I don’t really trust reviews anymore. I seriously think the only reason it got 9s all over the place is because it is a Zelda game; thus, it must be the greatest thing ever. I know, I said this before earlier, but I cannot stress this enough.

starcraft doesnt require half as much micro as Age of empires 1 does

starcraft isnt as fun as age of empires one

starcraft is really overrated compared to age of empires 1

there are just as many starts…if not more in AoE1 than in starcraft.

exploring is more important in aoe 1 than in starcraft. BY A FUCKING LONG SHOT

can you guess what RTS is my favorite?

what? no love for Skullomania?

The rankings of Ensemble and Blizzard RTS games:

  1. AOE2
  2. Starcraft
  3. Warcraft 2 (I find this more fun than Starcraft personally but Starcraft is much better balanced)
  4. AOM
  5. AOE3
  6. AOE1
  7. Warcraft 1
  8. Warcraft 3

It’s the best RPG next to Planescape: Torment, hands down.

AstroBoy/Atom for the GBA is a good game? Might give it a try.
Oh and 2I is underated. All this BS about 3S being the ‘latest’ SFIII game is utter bullshit; PEOPLE ARE STILL PLAYING KOF 98.
2I is good for fun. I like to use Urien since he feels ‘blocky’ like Sean is in 3S.

Aoe 2 fucking sucks. They changed so much from Age 1 to age 2 its ridiculous. For example two seperate techs for wood cutting and range? fucked up

I hated the whole “hero” or unique units whatever it was called. It added variety but I’m pretty sure it made it awfully unbalanced.

I’m pretty sure (from what I’ve been told, I have 0 experience with warcraft) but warcraft doesnt take as much micro / macro as SC or age 1… but again going off what Ive heard from people who play it and are good.
