I don’t think he knows that works like Persepolis exist and that animation is simply a medium rather than a genre. Just because there are porn movies, it doesn’t mean all movies are pornography where the trick takes the dick and are only for adults to watch. There are a lot of animated kids shows, doesn’t mean all animation is catered for only that audience.
Like sure you can be more judgmental when a nigga starts watching Precure or Gyrozetter, but he shouldn’t get flack for watching something like Mind Game or Kemonozume.
I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but as an artist, I love quality animation. I feel animation is an incredible storytelling medium and allows for fantasy environments, characters, and situations that are amazing in scope.
That, and sometimes after a hard day of dealing with stupid shit, you just want to turn your brain off and watch a dude punch another dude through a mountain for great justice.
It took 1 post for me to get the type of replies I was looking for in this thread. In the Lounge thread of all places, people thought I was shitting on their hobbies.
I’m just looking to understand the appeal of cartoons/anime in your adulthood, and Po Pimpus and Laban responded in such a way to help me understand that.
I’ve seen cartoons/anime that are meant to have great stories/cool characters/interesting character development etc. etc. but it still wasn’t for me. With Po Pimpus’ replies in this thread and the lounge and I can easily see why he enjoys cartoons/anime from his point of view.
For me personally animation is great for concepts and premises that wouldn’t work in other mediums. It’s much more flexible than live-action. Something like Avatar: The Last Airbender wouldn’t do so good on regular live-action television. Shit, it failed as a big budget movie.
Just checked those out. Those are pretty bad, but not bad enough to over look their good stuff. Otherwise I would’ve known about them before your post. What’s gross is they probably made more bank on those movie games than their good games.
Unpopular Game Opinion
I’d rather see more Sega Cup than a Y5 localization.
Fighting Games > *
Although to be fair spending $16,000 (£7,000 on SC Europe) on the pot(and at the previous Evo) is probably cheaper for them. They’ve said Sega Cup will be an annual thing BUT if it came down between the two…
Idiots still clicking the disagree button as if using it enough will grant them the ability to not be a complete faggot.
Anyways, I seem to be one of if not the only person on SRK who loves point and click adventure games/interactive movie type games., provided the story is well crafted and compelling. I grew up playing games like King’s Quest series, Tex Murphy series, The 7th Guest, Grim Fandango, Blade Runner, Alone in the Dark, the Lucas Arts games, and countless others. I loved those games because they had clever puzzles and non traditional game play mechanics that weren’t possible on consoles at the time, but more importantly these adventure games emphasized truly timeless stories and characters that stayed with me long after I beat them.
The modern games all of you complain about like The Walking Dead, Heavy Rain, Indigo Prophecy, etc are all just modern updates of the classic adventure genre. If a game has a truly exceptional story I wont notice or care if it’s little more than an “interactive movie”. Those of you who bitch about adventure games not focusing on the mechanics as much as the story and ask why bother having a game that is light on actual game play miss the point completely and don’t understand why other people would enjoy games like that.
