I don’t think Gears is a bad game, it just didn’t live up to the hype for a lot of people (myself included.)

I wouldn’t feel typecast if I were you, I get that almost every time I walk in there circa June-October, and I am Admiral Cracker as far as appearance goes.
-A 3rd person shooter is a much better/fun style of presentation than a first person shooter…at least for me(<–that qualifier shouldn’t be necessary since this entire thread is about personal opinion, but I added it anyway). Way back in the days of Doom, I still found myself thinking “…and this would be even better if I could see my character…”, even though that kills the central point of what a FPS is.
I think that most 3rd person corridor shooters are still part of the FPS genre, despite what FPS stands for. I include Gears of War and Jedi Knight (in 3rd person mode) FPS games.
in unreal tournament you could easily type a command in the console to make it third person.
the problem? YOU LOSE YOUR CROSSHAIR SINCE THE ANGLE IS OBVIOUSLY MESSED UP.
Yeah…and things get kinda clunky cuz it goes from “I’d better…” to “I’d better make my character…”. You don’t feel like you’re in the game anymore. You’re just controlling a character now.
The crosshair can still be implemented, case in point UC2…but of course no one gave that shit a chance mostly because of the “LOLZ FPS on console!haha lose.” retard elitist mentality.
It doesn’t take me out of the game either…I’m still “in the game” with various other genres. Something that takes me out of the game would be that janky ass turn-based combat.(and again with the cheapshot rpg hate…totally out of left field…oh it’s too fun. I can’t help myself)
…and here’s another cheapshot quick one—baseball video games can never really be that great, because baseball itself sucks in the first place. OH no he didn’t! Yes…yes I did. This thread is too much fun.
On the topic of baseball:
- Bad News Baseball (NES) is the only good baseball game made. The only one. Anime-style in-close dramatic cutscenes for close calls are beyond sexcellence.
