Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

Agree about RE5. The funny thing is that yeah, at first glance the gameplay seems exactly the same because of the controls and camera (actually the controls are slightly improved because strafing is now possible), but the similarities end there. Negative points about the game:

  • Everything is stripped down and the game basically consists of nothing but shooting enemies and moving forward. There are almost no alternate paths through an area and there are essentially no puzzles at all except for that one part in the tomb. This ends up feeling out of place because you just shot zombies for 5 hours and now you are suddenly taking like 15 minutes to solve some mirror/laser puzzles. RE4 didn’t offer much in terms of alternate paths but there were minor puzzles to solve along the way which helped to pace the game and stopped it from being just straight up shoot zombies and move forward.

  • The creepy and unsettling atmosphere of RE4 has been replaced with walking around in broad daylight and driving around in trucks with machine guns. Remember the village? and going through the same area at night when it was raining and suddenly there were new enemies there? the castle and the mines? the areas of the island when the Regenerators were lingering about? There is really nothing like this in RE5. RE4 went from survival horror to action game but kept the overall creepy feel of the older games, RE5 just feels like an action game.

  • The main gimmick of this game was co-op multi-player, and I feel that this decision helped to ruin many aspects of the game. Seems like when a game company makes a co-op game it means that they have to dumb everything down, hence no puzzles or exploration but more turret scenes and shoot outs. It’s funny seeing this coming from Capcom who made the RE Outbreak games and excluded microphone support because they felt it would take away from the scariness of the RE experience. And then they make this game and it’s just a non-scary as can be action game with mic support. Online co-op also caused them to replace the inventory system of pausing the game to switch a weapon or heal with a real-time menu that forces you to stand still while you open the menu and try to get the item you want.

Overall, RE5 took the great game engine of RE4 and used it to make a crappy game.

I know what you mean…It’s so hard to choose in some situations.

I generally pick out which one I play the most on a day to day basis and the types of games it offers to keep me interested. None has come close to the Ps2 for me though.

Another unpopular opinion: DC was heavily overrated.

Allow me to add:

DC was SC.

With a pinch of Grandia 2.

And Skies of Arcadia was the single most overhyped DC game ever.

What the fuck?

I gotta wait a few rounds to cast a spell/use an ability/action?

Really?

I can’t just… use MP?

Have you ever asked a DC fanboy to point out the reasons why he thinks the DC is deserving of the ā€œBest console everā€ title?

Try it sometime and post your results in this thread.

I would much rather have a Saturn than a DC.

Why did I not see this thread earler? You’ll have to excuse me if this was stated already:

The NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the best TMNT game ever made. Yes, better than The Arcade Game. Yes, better than Turtles in Time. Here, you can swap between all four Turtles on the fly, each having their own unique pros and cons (it not just all about Don folks). You had exploration (going in and out of sewers, buildings, and hitting the streets), great music, great controls, outstanding music (but then, all of the '90’s TMNT games had great music) and you can drive the Turtle Van! The only game that lets you do that!

A lot of people who played this got turned off by the bomb diffusion stage. And believe me, it was a pain for me too. But it is very beatable, and when you do beat it, thats when the game really opens up for you.

It’s a damn shame that the 2 TNMT arcade games were so popular. Granted, I loved them too, but the success of those games made Konami abandon this outstanding approach to the TMNT universe and instead went with mindless beat-em-ups and sub-par fighting games. And even though beat-em ups fell out of style and the fighting game genre has become more niche than it was back then, Konami is still releasing this shallow garbage.

wouldnt call myself a fanboy but the DC was great for me because it was mostly arcade titles that made it rock
best fighting games
best shmups
best arcade sport titles (eg sega tennis or nfl blitz)
and sonic felt like sonic too bad they fucked that game up with other characters looking in knuckles direction

also

1)tony hawk 3 was the last one worth playing shit just got stupid from there

2)games in general are rubbish now days and often if i cant get a pirated game i would not play it since i would never spend money on whats classed as a good game these days

  1. and because of that i like the achievement system on xbox its the only reason i will continue to play some games just to see if i can do some of them

  2. Call of Duty MW2 is shit
    -gameplay average
-terrible connection issues why does it search for a good game only to connect with people on the other side of the world
    -full of bugs and glitches
-only 2 player vs AI multiplayer seriously only 2 people gtfo

this generally comes down to activision being shit If they had just looked at COD5 they could have gotten so many good things out of it eg locale connection or zombies(or something similar)

Honestly I loved the dreamcast. The games were great, even if the default controller was pretty shitty. Not that it mattered because I had an Agetec, which was the best stock stick ever?

I mean shit:

-Toodles’ Capcom Fighting Collection gives me MVC2/CVS2/3s/ST/Puzzle Fighter/Ikaruga on one disc.
-Power Stone 1/2. (casual fightan, but still great with a couple of blunts and some time to relax.)
-Jet Set/Grind Radio (much more interesting than any other skating game out at the time for sure.)
-Jojo’s.
-Skies of Arcadia
-Grandia 2 (and a better port than the PS2 one at that)
-Shenmue (goddamn, what it is it with the dreamcast and good JRPGs?)
-4 Player Bomberman. No other console was doing this at the time.

I could go on for hours, but in truth- I really loved the Dreamcast’s selection. It’s not as underrated as everyone thinks, it’s a good console with a wide selection… most of which is outdated by now.

Would I take a dreamcast over my 360 or PS3? No, probably not. But I’ve already played through nearly all of the blockbusters the system has had.

Yes I did, from recently beating Crisis Core, which despite being related to FFVII, is actually a GOOD game, with a fast-paced battle system, awesome main character, interesting story, and a totally badass ending.

4 Player Bomberman was around on consoles since Super Bomberman on the SNES, only difference is SNES/Genesis/PS1 needed a multitap to get 4 players.

Oh, my bad. I meant out of the box. Heh.

Speaking of Bomberman, it’s one of the best 4-player multiplayer games ever made, as good as Smash Bros. and Halo 2, and yet I rarely if ever see any Bomberman tournaments. Why the hell is this?

…and Saturn had 8-player Bomberman… I remember someone had it all set up in my dorm’s lobby one day, and it was indeed awesome.

-and sheeeit…Jet Set Radio is STILL way more interesting than any other skating-focused game out there. I’d rather play a new JSR than any of the Tony Hawks, Skate or whatever the hell else has been released recently.

*I love the achievements and trophies now. It’s hard to even imagine us going back to the days where there was no such thing. I believe lots of people out there are ā€œin the closetā€ on that issue though, and they just pretend to hate achievements…so it may not be an ā€œunpopularā€ one after all if certain people would just accept it and come clean.

-360’s Avatars are much more interesting characters than any of the Miis or the more realistic PSN Home avatars…and the inclusion of them in certain games(that upcoming Sonic/Sega-Allstars kart racer allows your avatar to be in the race) is an awesome idea.

-The Fable franchise still has strong ā€œgreatest action rpg ever!ā€ potential. The problem is that the people working on those games end up holding back the greatness time and time again with strange or at least ā€œquestionableā€ game-design choices. This is why it continues to be one of the biggest gaming disappointments of all time…to have such legendary potential, and every damn time it falls short of what it could be. I’m really hoping part 3 will prove my doubts wrong.

Fable 3 designers and the people that made Demon’s Souls need to hook up…

That game would be EPIC…

anyone who thinks DC was over-rated shouldnt be a gamer, and should get raped by their uncle and get a bj by their mom at the same time

Anyone who doesn’t think the DC was overrated ***isn’t ***a gamer, and already has been raped by their uncle and gotten bj by their mom at the same time.

EDIT:

As their granddaddies diddled their micro-penis’s ballsack, no less.

That game made me emo.

DC had the worst controller since the 1st gen saturn pad. DC could be hacked by a 1st grader, hence noone actually bought any games, just got burnt copies from friends.

Also Ikaruga is the most overrated shmup of all time.

-FF7 was ass… it was overhyped because it’s the first game american’s really got there hands on. FF3 was the best, hands down
-FF9 was underrated
-Halo 2/3 are pretty bad, no FPS will ever live up to counter strike.
-Street fighter 2 ST was the best, alpha sucked

I wish I never sold my Saturn, definitely some fun titles on there. They’re like hard to find now.

I liked FF7, and will continue to play. Call me a fanboy blah blah I don’t give a fuck.
