All horror/survival games are bad, all of them. Resident evil, clock tower, none of those games are fun or interesting. I played the first RE when it came out and later played the sequel at my cousins house, even back then I thought they were boring. Was I supposed to be scared by those polygons? gameplay was slow and easily put me to sleep. Those games had no redeeming qualities, period.
FFX-2 sucked ass because the game felt like a huge boring sidequest and percenting it was more annoying than challenging. So I shouldāt go to the hotspots or Iāll dick myself at getting the good ending? The battle system and music was awesome. They just ruined it for the hardcore players.
All the non-gameplay factors just contribute to deliver more epicness to the plot. IMHO, Dancing Mad > Aria di Mezzo Carattere > any other track in any FF ever, though for me, they would be nothing by themselves (meaning that I wouldnāt feel that much about them if I listened to them without having played the game). BUT, in my case, when I listen to them, I think of Kefka, his whole scheming, and how heās been maybe the only villain that has managed to actually rule the world for a couple of years, or the whole opera scene, how Celes made me feel her pixelated interpretation, and I think āWow. Now THIS is EPICā. And presentation also helps to make a better description of the plot for the player. In the end, itās the whole combination that makes the magic work, I think.
BTW, mad props for the av.
Thatās why itās a personal opinion thread. I probably played most RPGs from SNES and PSX, and probably many of them had great plots and poor gameplay. And I still played them. But Iām not into that anymore, Iāve stopped playing RPGs, theyāre the devilās minions, with the true devil being MMORPGs. Those things drain your soul. And after reading a cliche list, I just realized that theyāre all the same⦠but I still have an addiction with anything with completion measure, so I get deeply into games that are considered really bad around here, like Monster Hunter or Resident Evil: Outbreak, which have a few RPG elements. Sucks for me -_-.
Oh well, at least I can say: I learned english thanks to videogames, specially RPGs :D.
Apparently a customer that goes to my gamestop who says he comes here says that Warioland Shake It! is better than Mega Man 9 because āyou donāt dieā.
By that logicā¦and added with yours apparently Mega Man 9 is ass.
Perhaps he should post his opinion in here himself?
Yeah most RPGs have stupid plots/horrible writing. All the praise a lot of these RPGs get is mostly fanboyism/nostalgia. The dialog in these games is just :shake:
Yeah, Kefka was always a bit overrated. He would have probably benefited more from a bit of backstory, instead of just being a power-hungry psycho like he came out to be from the beginning. Oh, and you canāt forget his catchy laugh.
Heās got the points for doing what no other villain has done before⦠even if he gets crushed afterwards by 8 x 9999 hits of damage. And that cosplay is awesome.
In jRPGs, which means absolutely nothing seeing how bad most are, FFVI being no exception. Kefka is as cheesy and boring as any other FF villian.
Youād have to be deluding yourself to think otherwise. Shit heās probably the most boring, at least Sephiroth had a reason for being so emo/pissed. If he didnāt he would still be hated on, still called a shitty character. While Kefka for some reason, is exempt from all this hate.
The FFVI elite-fanboyism is as laughable as Xenogearās script.
Though FFVIās script isnāt that much better either :woot:
Kefka really didnāt do much. So he killed a town and rearranged the world map. Even in the FF series itself, thereāre greater accomplishments for villains. Kuja pwned a whole world, Sin terrorised a whole world for a long ass period of time (I forget if it was 100 or 1000 years at least) and Ultimecia pwned every single time period there was. So in terms of destructive power, heās got squat compared to some of the more overpowered peeps.
Btw, if you think Kefka did what he sought out to do, he didnāt. Kefka wanted to destroy all hope, and clearly that didnāt happen. You could say he terrorised the world for about a year, but thatās hardly saying anything (this terrorising was quite limited too, strangely, as besides world map arranging, he didnāt do anything else of noteā¦thatās at least 364 days wasted).
If you were talking about him being unique in some other manner, please explain. Otherwise Iāll assume you, like most other Kefka fanboys was referring to his āsuccessā in completing what he set out to do as a villain. About the only thing he really succeeded in was pushing around a bunch of statues for power.
Even Sephiroth dieing did more to destory the world he was on then Kefka. Even though he ultimately wasnt successfull. Seph did alot of damage to the world that still hasnt recovered.
Most RPG villains have some noble cause to carry out, perceived wrong they want to right, or they just want to be jerkoffs to prove some kind of existential point. While it could be argued that Kekfa falls into that latter category, fact is he just straight up liked being bad, and thatās the reason why heās a great villain in my opinion.
Kefka is one of my favorite Final Fantasy antagonist for the simple fact that heās such a dick. Not only that, heās no metro sexual or has his chest exposed like a lot others. Sephiroth is badass in the whole dark cloths and long sword thing but I honestly think he was geared towards the female FF audience. I hear the girls over in Japan love that stuff. Kefka stands out a lot more to me than all the others too. Clearly heavily influenced by The Joker.
