Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

Actually, if you’re gonna try the “RPGs are mostly plot” argument…RPGs are really more about fighting than most other games. Think about it. 90% of the time you’re doing what? Fighting monsters.

I always loved in that game how quick the battles were.

No sitting there taking 30 minutes to do an attack. Plus the characters would almost immediately follow each other after a command was selected.

People just hate on that game because of the dressing up.

Just guys trying to show that they aren’t gay.

Final Fantasy 9 is the only FF game I ever finished, so in the opinion of non-RPG head it was my favorite.

Mine’s more
FF8>FFTC>FF12>FF5>FF9>the rest

Yea, I never understood the FF7 bandwagon. I had a friend who argued with me saying the summons looked better than FF8  I think I didn’t like it mostly because I played FF8 first but then again I liked FF5 more than 7 and the graphics were nintendo level.

I’m actually looking forward to FFX3 now since I really enjoyed playing FF12.

So yeah I agree with everyone else that RPGs are definitely not about just “plot/story”. Too bad most RPGs have shit story and everything else.

Diablo ii (soon 3) > WoW

the sims is trash

super monkey ball 2 for gamecube was pretty wicked

Lol in D2 you do NOT need a good team AT ALL. Summon Necro, Smiter, Hammerdin, good WW barb, werewolf druid, and a few other builds can solo hell and uber trist.

Lol, even if the grid system hadn’t been done before, you honestly think it was noteworthy?

That shit was so broken and lame. Same thing with the license system from XII. You get all these options, but they become essentially meaningless because there’s no reason not to get everything. No real choices involved.

Most FF games really are for RPG fucktards both in actual substance and narrative.

PS: I liked FFVI and FFXII so I eagerly anticipate FFXVIII

the game the grid was such a sick arcade / action game. loved it even though sub and cameraman were pretty broken…

This applies to most RPGs, just thought I’d let you know that.

I love FF games, but they are overrated. They have really good elements that could potentially be a AAA title, but they’re generally sloppily put together.

They generally have cool concepts, and I like the lore behind it. The stories are hit and miss, even within the same game. FFX and XII started out so well, but just turned to shit as the game progressed.

XII had an awesome battle system, but the worst skill/level system since VIII. Maybe even worse.

X had the best skill/level system. Leaps and bounds above any others.

VI > VII > IX > XII > X > VIII

I think all the FF haters are grossly exaggerating. If a game is overrated (which I agree that FF is), people will exaggerate just to get their point across and get some attention. None of the FF games were really that bad at all. Just disappointing because they rarely ever fulfill their potential. Not since VI and VII anyway. Maybe someday, FF will be restored to its former glory.

Well, while we’re on topic of unpopular gaming opinions:

I hate Tactics. If I want to play a war game, I’ll play a goddamn war game.

Sup, Kane! What I don’t like about FFs is that they are mostly about pressing a single button for all the game with almost no strategy or skill or anything. Push the button, receive FMV. I can hardly even describe them as games, they are more like interactive anime or something.
FFT at least involves some strategy and thinking, even though it’s definitely inferior to Tactics Ogre. Which is in turn inferior to Ogre Battle.

BTW, nice Spanglish, Ferdinandz ;D

Haha I’ve talked spanish every day of my life, but rarely ever wrote it for the past 7 years so I struggle sometimes.

About the interactive anime thing, I think that’s exactly what S-E wants their new FFs(or XIII at least) to play like. They keep mentioning seamless interaction with FMVs/battles and “FFVII:AC-like battles”. This sounds horrible to me as I hate the idea of it turning into a complete clip-show with the retarded battle choreography that was present in Advent Children.

FFX-2 was far from an interactive anime though. That version of ATB and Grandia’s are the best RPGs have seen IMO.

do joystick related opinions count? here’s an unpopular opinion (on this site anyways)

japanese joysticks suck. or at least square gates suck. seriously, whos the bright guy who looked at a game with 8 directional inputs and multiple circular motions and thought “HMMMMM IM THINKING SOMETHING WITH 4 CORNERS…”? its retarded having to exaggerate motions just to input simple shit like quarter circles because some dumbass was like “hurr squares = circles” when they were inventing arcade sticks in japan. my execution sucks, but i have way more confidence in something executing properly on an american stick, which cost about half as much as a japanese one.

btw i have a full sanwa (japanese parts) arcade stick, and i play on it just fine. it has an octagonal gate in there (protip: octagons are a lot more like circles than squares are!). default japanese joysticks in arcade cabs and hori sticks still come with square gates and therefore they still suck.

Agreed. What the fuck were they thinking?

Stop sucking, imo.

Warioland Shake It! is an average platformer.

“It’s Japanese, of course it’s better!”

:rofl::rofl:

That really does go through some people’s minds
