Unpopular gaming opinions SECOND IMPACT

That’s the equivalent to saying: Fighting games suck because you’re just doing “moves” over and over until someone dies.

What that translates into is “I don’t like PC RPG’s”. Or any game on the PC for that matter because I have to press buttons :confused:

Now, technically, if I really cared, I could tell you that you can always move using the keys and select items/actions by clicking icons on the screen, but who cares about convenience anyway :karate:

Fall back, my statement was pretty valid. Those games aren’t similar but they are prominent examples of non-turn based RPG’s and the industry doesn’t know if that the direction they want to go because there isn’t the same level of strategy that one would find in a turn based game.

Apparently you don’t know what you’re talking about, very few if any rpg’s take as much strategy as mass effect has whether you like the game or not that’s a fact you should be able to backup a statement with proof if you’re going to bother making a claim.

Comparing the two is like comparing doa to marvel.

Yo, Grandia 3 combat system is the hotness. Don’t lump it in with the other directionless console RPGs.

It looks like the well of unpopular opinions is drying up while “games I don’t like” and “this is the TOL thread” type posts are dominating the last few pages.

Umm… new super mario bros was kinda boring lol.

I wasn’t aware FFX did anything out of the ordinary. Pretty much everything present in the game had more or less been done earlier. About the only thing I can credit it for is the super linearity it has got.

If anything, TWEWY’s the one that did something new. Other games include stuff like BoF: DQ, the SaGa series in general, Witcher, Kingdom Hearts: CoM (same people that made TWEWY), Suikoden Tactics, Wizardry 8, and so on.

If you’re talking about the average RPG, sure, but keep in mind the average of almost anything kinda blows, really.

Mass Effect (a game I did enjoy) is definitely on the easy side of things, the choices you had to make in the story was more of a mind fuck than the combat. Unless I am some Mass Effect genius and don’t even know it.

But it is very far from the point I was initially trying to make.

As far as turn based games, there hasn’t been a lot added to the mix since FFX. You can switch up party in battle, your summons can take damage, you can add elements your weapons, you know the order in which your characters attack, all kinds of shit.

The story I didnt care for, but I was thinking about stuff in terms of in battle gameplay.

Well, yeah, like I said, I can’t think of anything FFX added to gameplay besides the super linear style (meaning if you backtrack, it’s going to be a literal reverse order from whence you came).

A lot of the stuff you listed has been done before: Switching up party in BoF4, summons take damage in FFVIII, turn order sequence in lots of RPGs (but the most similar one I can think of is FFT), elements on weapons is in a lot of games (FFVIII, again) and even skills on weapons like Petrify on hit and so on.

Oh, one thing that you helped remind me of: I can’t think of too many RPGs where summons replace party members in battle.

So yeah, as far as I’m concerned, FFX wasn’t too unique. The linear and summon things stand out, but that’s it. We could stretch it to language collecting too, I guess.

^ I can respect that

Play it on hardcore or better yet insanity.

You guys have piss poor taste in games. This is what happens when year after year of redundant tripe conditions you to jump for joy whenever someone hands you a stale cracker instead of the usual turd sandwich you’ve grown accustomed to.

Mass Effect is boring even on the insane level. The combat is just some shitty FPS with minor RPG elements.

You described gamers and gaming as a whole perfectly, now all that’s left is for someone to close this shitty thread. This back and forth baiting is getting boring, even though it was kinda fun at first.

Why do you care what someone else likes? you’ve contributed nothing to this thread but stupid rants and you’re doing a great job embarrassing yourself talking about what you obviouly don’t know so I’mma go back to my fps:rofl:

Sonic2>all games.

Oh please. Saying “play it on super hard mode for a real challenge” does not make a game better. It may be challenging to the point where you have to devise a perfect strategy and perfect execution, but this isn’t something that’s particularly uncommon with 1p games and certainly isn’t enough to make a game good.

Every game has fans who love it to death and can play it over and over, and appreciate the game in ways that not many other people can. If this applies to you and whatever game, it doesn’t necessarily make the game great. Hell, I play the shit out of Disgaea 3, and I am well aware that the game sucks.

Mass Effect is so grossly overrated. Perhaps more overrated than, dare I say, GTA4.

I am somewhat looking forward to Sonic and the Black Knight game on the Wii.

At first it sounded dumb, but that brief snippit I saw in the Wii trailer keeps me thinking, this might be the one Sonic console game that doesn’t blow.

This is basically what I’ve been trying to tell people, but they still kinda want to live in that fantasy world(no pun intended) where FF is still the innovator with each installment. Same shit, different number at the end of the day when it comes to FF.

Yeah I was sorely disappointed when I heard Fallout 3 was going to be in First Person. Then I heard the combat is real-time. Then I heard Bethesda got the rights to it. I actually liked Daggerfall and Morrowind, but I have zero confidence in their ability to adequately convey the tone of the original games.

Tim Cain, where have you gone? We miss you.

not really guys. fyi, i love pressing buttons, but that’s really beside the point. my beef with mmorpgs is the lack of interaction, depth, skill going on (unlike fighting games) and it’s extremely boring not only to watch but to play as well. rts also requires a lot of clicking but you don’t see me criticizing it (because it there’s thinking and strategy going on). mmorpgs on the other hand don’t demand much from the player. just by putting in enough time, practically anyone can be level 60 or w/e in an mmorpg. there’s no freaking heart in it. however, the same thing can’t be said about a fighting game or an rts, where you actually have to PUT IN ASSLOADS OF EFFORT just to reach the level where people will start labeling you as a “good player”

i guess since this is a pretty unpopular gaming opinion it was only natural to get people to disagree but seriously, mmorpgs may be great for socializing and chilaxing or whatever but there’s really not much going on with them.
