It is a genre. But if you follow something as it is made, the “non-ending” just creeps up on you like WTF. No resolution = waste of time.
If the info is available that a series is a slice-of-life BEFOREHAND, I avoid it like the plague. Unfortunately, knowing whether something is SOL, usually doesn’t happen until it’s stopped, with or sans resolution.
Bubblegum Crisis is the best anime series ever.
Detonator Orgun is better than all other similar series. (Gundam, Macross…)
Cyber City: Oedo 808 is better than Akira.
Zeta Gundam is one Gundam I never saw, though i’d much rather watch robotech then Gundam Wing
Well to be fair most don’t exactly lead you on as something else (only one I can think of that tries that is Sora-no-woto, teasing us with tank battles and zombies), I mean when you see something like K-on or Lucky Star do you honestly keep watching thinking “maybe something will happen” before getting to the end and shouting “THIS WAS SLICE OF LIFE ALL ALONG!”
You have good taste, but still… I heavily suggest you watch Zeta because it was just as revolutionary as the first series (0079) if not more, anyway

I watched the new robotech movie that came out, it wasnt as good as I thought it would be, though I did like Gundam 0083
Anyone who says “anime sucks” or “anime is great” is dumb. Anime is not some uniform entity or style, they are just cartoons made in Japan and there’s a lot of garbage and a few good products just like with everything else in life.
People who hate on anime usually watched only the lowest common denominator shit. People who think anime is a greater adult art form usually like that lowest common denominator shit.
Death Note is garbage. I laugh at people who think it’s some adult and deep story when it’s just Dragon Ball but with “mindgames” instead of hadoukens.
Manga > anime. There’s still a majority of garbage in manga but there’s more room for innovation and out of the ordinary stuff. Plus artwork will always be better in a comic than in animation.
Akira anime is pretty poor compared to the manga. They cut all the good shit in the movie, but I guess you just can’t put 6 huge comics into a 2 hour film.
Moe is one of the worst things about Japanese comics and animation.
Best 5 action mangas are Blade of the Immortal, Vinland Saga, Berserk, Lone Wolf and Cub, Vagabond, in that order. Though Vagabond has fallen a bit in the latest volumes.
Slam Dunk is the only decent Shounen ever.
Mushishi was boring. Yeah the ideas are interesting but the pacing is fucked up. I don’t know if the manga is the same though, I thought Monster anime was slow and boring as fuck too but the manga was much faster paced.
Speaking about Monster, Urasawa is not that good. He’s the M.Night Shyamalan of Japan. Except for Pluto, his stuff is pretty mediocre and full of ridiculous twists.
I’ve yet to watch it but I’ll probably get to it sooner or later…

Gungrave is one of my all time favorite animes and builds a wonderful story out of a crappy game series. I never hear anyone talk about it though so I wonder if I just have bad taste. I know most people come in thinking they are going to get violence and gore and maybe they are let down when they see the story is more about what it means to hold on to your convictions than about killing hundreds.

though everybody got something they do or dont like. for me naruto and hxh are both enjoyable, fma is good as well. but compared to the greatness of slamdunk its all petty actually. and yeah, boti is the best action manga ever released, and i mean ever. if only akira would have been done in 2 or 3 movies, it could have been much closer to the brilliiance that is the manga. in short, manga > anime. then again its been like that forever.
Manga > Anime just like Book > Movie, it’s always been that way.

though the 5 best actions suck that they belong in the unpopular section. boti is the greatest form of art (designs, characters, art, story and all that) when it comes to action and who knows about it? vinland was awesome but i stopped following it some time ago, gotta pick it up again. berserk started out good, it got to a point where it became THE action manga. now its at a point where im wtf is going on? big emporor is gone? grifith still doing his thing with his new bod. its best to wait and read more chapters in 1 go. vagabond is generally good but sometimes too drawn out, not quite as good as boti. cant say shit bout wolf and cub, heard great shit about it. looked at it, shit looked horendoes, didnt look further into it. who knows maybe ill start it someday.

And musolini, Vinland is pretty great ATM, it’s always been great but the latest chapters were fucking amazing. Askeladd is probably the most badass character in a comic ever. You catch up with it ASAP.
LWAC isn’t that hot art wise, yes, but you should still give it a chance. Totally agree on Vagabond being a bit too drawn out at times (like the battle against the Yoshioka). Still great though.
