Sorry to be quoting this from a page back, but the bold statement upset me. Granted most older nicktoons aren’t the prettiest of animations, but many of them are LOADS better then most Anime out there. However, that being said, they are in a completely different league. Where most anime goes for [dialog driven] story telling (most very poor), nicktoons(and countless other western toons, soul purpose is for pure entertainment, thus 2 shorts per half hour. Nothing is chronological, and everything is situational. I just hope your choice to use “nicktoon” as something derogatory more or less applies to everything post invader zim’s cancellation. The last best nicktoon before that Teen Nick nonsense…shivers
But then again, i haven’t watched any “new” Anime since i was in 9th grade. That was almost 7 years ago. So i’m pretty much lost when i hear some of these titles. Probably the only one i watch from time to time is Bebop, for obvious reasons. Other then that, i have nothing to contribute.

oh yeah, “Ogenki Clinic” is seriously the funniest thing I’ve ever seen…not just funniest in “hentai” or “anime” categories…it’s probably the most hilarious non-shit-related shit in existence, at least in my opinion, of course.
oh and I used “nicktoon” as a negative way to describe the visual aspect of One Piece. There are some shows out there that look ugly, but they still come off as charming and entertaining…the look works for the material–>e.g. Shin Chan and Beavis & Butthead. For some reason, One Piece’s visual style is just so off-putting to me…I just can’t get past it. The writing could be great, but it’s just so damn ugly. Nothing I’ve seen of that is aesthetically pleasing or interesting in any way.
lol trust me, i know that feeling of how ugly one piece is, thats why it took me like 2 years to give it another shot. But after a while the artwork grows on you and you stop caring.
8th MS team is the BEST gundam series because it isnt annoying or stupd in any way.
08th MS team is awesome but I’m hearing nothing but wonderful from Gundam Unicorn.

Wow I thought I was the only one that liked 08th ms team. Shit was the best gundam series ever. How do I know? DUDE RIPS HIS OWN ARM OFF AND BEATS SOMEBODY WITH IT.
Also, there’s nothing to “get” with eva. It’s pretentious bullshit thrown in to try and give a layer of depth that just isn’t there. I enjoyed the show when it was people with robots killing each other blah blah. The last 6 eps don’t fit at all and I get tired of people trying to convince me that they “get it”. I remember seeing an interview with the creator where he (more or less) said the end of the show didn’t really mean anything.
Seriously, ask an eva fan to explain the end to you and try to keep a straight face.
I like how unique it is. Big noses and long necks and other crazy characteristics give the character more personality. That and I give extra points to originality. It is honestly the only manga I can bring myself to read, other than Fist of the North Star and JoJo’s of course. Kinda grew out of all these cliche animes a couple years ago. It just seems like the same thing over and over again.
As far as Gundam I used to like G Gundam a lot. But I doubt I could stand it anymore…

That’s actually the problem I have with most anime/manga. It starts out strong, gets you hooked, then the series makes a u-turn and shits all over what came before.
EVEN FLCL, which only had 6 episodes had to introduce some bullshit about some kind of space pirate at the end.
I always took it pretty clearly as coming to realization of the equality of lives and everything else. Ego death, I guess. Whatever, though. I will say that, yes, it’s somewhat overrated, and many things in the show seem to be in there for no purpose. Aside from the excellent action scenes, I’m not sure if I could stomach watching the series again.
Unpopular opinions: Ergo Proxy turned out to be incredible, albeit with terrible ending. Seriously, I can’t think of the last time I was so disappointed with an ending.
Also, Wing was the most entertaining AU series (Though I haven’t finished Turn-A). Yes, you could say it was nostalgia since I watched it on Toonami, except I’m really not a nostalgic person AT ALL. Seems like 3/4ths of the stuff I go back to that I use to love I end up finding out and accepting is garbage.
Gurren Lagann>Gundam?
That’s not unpopular, I know for a fact that most of the people that watched TTGL never seen a mecha show in their life let alone a Gundam show that pre-dates Gundam Wing, not to mention TTGL has a shit load of mecha anime references that they won’t ever get unless watched the show they’re referring to, post on /m/, or play Super Robot Wars, anyway unpopular anime opinions…
