Only reason I don’t like point Storm is because she loses popular point matchups in a blisteringly horrible way.
Personally, I think Sentinel/Missiles is one of the most vulnerable couples to birthdays, but other than that I think it’s an okay team construction-wise. Not sure how well your gameplan is going to fare against other strong and semi-strong teams, though. Not much really loses to Sentinel/Missiles these days.
i agree w/ what Yannick has stated. Storm’s best position is in the 2nd slot IMO. That way you have access to her greatest strength to a team- a virtually safe DHC HAILSTORM. Great for sniping assist.
It seems to me that your team is lacking a strong point character. You have basically 3 support characters IMO.
Well, you can start from the characters that have near-instant hypers to start the DHC.
Spencer
Dormammu
Sentinel
Thor
Ryu
X-23
Dante
Vergil
Arthur
Doctor Strange
etc.
I particularly like Spencer (Strange and Sentinel follow) since you get to use a THC if you want to and can snag birthdays off it (or at least get much more damage).
Just posting to say that Dante Crystal assist might be where it’s at for Morrigan/Storm/Dante.
This team is incredible; I can’t believe I tried pairing Storm with Morridoom a few months ago (not such a good team, in my opinion)–I should have just gone straight to Morrigan and worked from there. I’d be much further along with this by now!
it’s funny because I just started using Morrigan with Storm and i think they work well together. I wasnt too sure about Doom(Missiles)for Storm. Morrigan/Doom is proven to be one of the Best Shells. Storm needs Beam more than missile iMO but Morrigan needs missiles. I also would like to switch out Doom, but I’m not sure who yet. Maybe Strange or Dorm or even Trish?
I am actually using Jam Session at the moment, but am in the process of transitioning over to Crystal (it takes me a while for these things, not sure why). While I have no problem saying that Jam Session is a better overall assist, I think Crystal’s utility helps the team more directly. So let’s look at the strengths of Jam Session:
Controls vertical space.
This is probably the strongest aspect of the assist, but one of the least helpful for this team, I think. Storm’s movement being so good means she can more or less weave in and out of problem areas when people are approaching from the air. Morrigan doesn’t necessarily control the air, but with :h: Soul Fist and Shadow Blade both being fly cancelable, she has retardedly safe anti-air options.
Assist is active quickly.
The assist is pretty quick. There’s no real followup here; speed is definitely a great aspect of this assist.
Generic combo extension.
The nature of Jam Session just lends itself as a combo extender even in later parts of longer combos. Unfortunately, the Storm/Morrigan team isn’t a killing shell, so combo extension isn’t a terribly huge deal for low damage characters like Storm and Morrigan.
Overall, Jam Session is pretty alright for this team. Let’s look at Crystal now:
Controls a block of some vertical, but mostly horizontal space.
I think this is one of the most important parts of Crystal for this team. Storm and Morrigan can control ground, but they do it with great risk a close to mid range. Crystal covers this area almost perfectly and removes the risk from the point character, letting them advance or set up at their leisure. Crystal is also a great welcoming assist for incoming characters; the area this assist covers is really spectacular for Storm/Morrigan.
Lockdown properties.
While not a “true” lockdown assist because of the cascading nature of the ice projectile, Crystal’s lockdown properties are really very very valuable to Storm and Morrigan. Any assist that helps to make instant flight Shell Kicks or Storm’s fantastic 3 corner game any harder to see while also preventing the opponent from moving or pushblocking is heaven-sent. Storm/Morrigan being low damage mean more second chances for your opponent, so when you get a chance to mix an opponent up, you want to increase the chances of success (obviously) so you can decrease the amount of time that involves you not hitting them; decreasing this time also decreases the time you spend getting hit and, similarly, the chances that you will get hit.
Defensive properties.
Crystal really is a big wall; just a giant STOP sign that you can pull out at opportune times to really put a clamp down on some of the bullshit. While Storm should easily be winning projectile wars, you can use Crystal with Morrigan to assist in projectile defense and retaliation. Crystal also stops (or at least hinders) forward movement, meaning, you can force people to change short-term gameplans. THIS is important because you’re making someone ELSE make a decision and the more decisions someone is forced to make, the higher chances of them screwing up.
If we’re talking everyday assists, then I’ll take Jam Session eight days a week. I do believe Crystal’s specialized uses may be more beneficial for this team, however, and goes a decent way to covering some annoying weaknesses. I’m also experimenting with Weasel Shot, but the way this team plays, Weasel Shot is looking much less impressive by comparison.
quick question- with dante added to the Storm/Morrigan team arent you afraid of having 3 low damage characters? While they have mix up games none are at the level of say a Jill for resets to compensate. That’s my concern and why i was leaning towards Dorm ,Virgil or perhaps keeping Doom.
As for Dante’s jam session, i dont think Morrigan or Storm really needs it, like say Jill or iron fist would but i would love to see crystal used w/ this team . Yipes is really the only one that i can think of that uses crystal w/ dante.
On a side note - Justin, Fanatiq, Flux, and Chris G all playing storm. did Justin’s EVO performance open peoples eyes to our elemental Goddess?
Storm is the shit, dude. Don’t know why people are just now noticing. I predict most of them will drop her in a few months, though.
@Jaxxx Normally, I would be worried about this kind of thing, but having tons of excess meter makes this not an issue so much. Triple DHCs, THC combo enders, TAC infinites for the whole team, DT and XF for Dante–the equation may not have raw damage in it, but the solution still adds up okay if you know what I mean. As for Jam Session, it’s probably Morrigan’s best neutral assist overall, but I think Crystal adds more value to the team than Jam Session does.
Besides, Morrigan gets plenty of damage from Soul Fist chip and Storm gets damage from her Elemental Rage punishes (thanks to excess meter). Again, everyone also has TAC infinites, so damage is there, just not in the raw form that most other characters have. I don’t think the second chances this team gives are like the second chance one gives from, say, a dropped combo. It’s not a kill, to be sure, but the situation seems not as bad as it would be with other teams. I have to say, though…Crystal is looking slower and slower the more I use it. I am way too accustomed to Jam Session’s speed.
I managed to get people to start X-Factoring my Storm at Summer Jam. While I like this because it means they respect the character, I should probably learn how to play my other characters now, LOL.
What do you guys think about Vergil/Storm/Dante or Doom? Ive been playing Strange/Storm/Doom recently but man that team gets beaten up on so easily, im liking the Vergil/Storm pairing myself, Whirlwind is a great assist for Vergil, and of course Missiles or Jam Session, but what opinion do you guys have on it and who works better in the back for this team?
Extremely doubtful anyone recorded them. Hopefully I can survive long enough next tournament to get them recorded or to get streamed or something. I’ll keep putting in work in the mean time.
I think the team is okay. Even though I think Vergil is a perfectly okay character on point, he is very vulnerable (or so it seems) to opposing assist abuse. Anchor Vergil is awesome because nobody calls assists on anchor Vergil and Vergil in second is good because he doesn’t come onto the screen unless he gets DHC’d in, and that’s for a kill combo–once he’s done with that, he’s out again. Point Vergil will definitely need to move in and out with the rest of your team in order for him to be a valuable enough asset to pull his weight, but if you’re smart with your TACs and CCs, it can work. I am very partial to Storm/Dante as well. I think you’ll just have to put in lots of work with Vergil since you the team is susceptible to birthdays, so you will want to cut down on assist calling as much as you can outside of blockstrings.
