University Battle - Winter 2004

Regarding Junior colleges:

As much as we’d like to include ANY school/institution in this event, we are still working on accommodating four or five schools at all. For now, we have to turn down any applications for junior college entries, but thanks for your interest!

The Official Date for the Winter 2004 University Battle is:
–March 6th, 2004–

I will need all schools to submit (by e-mail) what games they will enter, and the players who are entering each game by:
–February 28th, 2004–

Let me know if any of your players are not actually enrolled in your school, so we can work out these exceptions.

  • A school no longer has to have an arcade on campus to enter.
  • A player cannot compete in more than 3 games.
  • Special cases might be required for alumni/regulars, so check with me first.
  • Round Robin seems to be universally favored over Gauntlet-style, so this will probably be the case as well.
  • The following games will be played:
  • Guilty Gear XX
  • Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 2
  • Capcom vs. SNK 2
  • Soul Calibur 2
  • Tekken Tag Tournament (3 players)
  • Before a match-up against another school, you need to tell me what team/character you’re going to use, and we’ll run it like a double blind-selection. However, you have to use that team for the entire match-up. You can only change chars/teams/grooves/ratios when you’re fighting a new school.

I’m not too fond of the PM system, so just make your enquiries in this thread. If you need to ask something in private, my e-mail address is:

Sweet. I’ll post about this over at SoulCalibur.com and see what comes up. I know SJSU would be able to assemble a team for SC2.

Will there be a limit to how many games each person can enter? I’ve been practicing and training in the off-season with some new players from Sac State, so that this time around theres no “loose ends” and no arbitrary arguments. So far there are 3 players for Sac State. So, depending on the rules, we can fill our roster.

SFSU team members and teams

Jackson Ng(Ouroborus): A-groove Vega/ Chun-Li/ Rolento-2

Gordon Hom(Nolifeking): A-groove Akuma/ Iori/ Cammy-2

Brian Oliveira(KyoHiryu): C-groove Guile/ Cammy/ Sagat-2

Chidiebere Akara(Coolwater): K-groove Maki/ Todo/ Geese-2

If SC2 is included, I’ll try out for the Berkeley team :).

add vampire saviour aka vampire hunter 2 or whatever the incarnation is for us Americans…yeeehaw!

I’m assuming you have to be enrolled in a university to participate in this battle…

Shame.

For all you camera guys out there, perhaps some sort of special setup should be in order for this?

I don’t really know what I’m talking about. All I know is that someone mentioned that I was blocking the camera during my matches in GGXX.

Last time regulars were allowed in the fall UB, will that be the case for the next UB?

If so Kid Lee is welcomed to be on team SFSU

Exceptions have been made before. It’s rare but it happens…

Hmm…

Would Pat count as UC Berkeley Street Fighter Alumni?

could u add tekken tag in the line-up?

I think it was limited to 3 games per person last year. Some games will have to run simultaneously, so it’s hard to have one person compete in all games. Explain your situation though and maybe we can work something out.

Not anymore.

Sorry, but there’s not enough interest in the game. Which school are you from?

I don’t remember any regulars being allowed at the last UB… i might be wrong… but from my memory, everyone was (well was SUPPOSED TO BE anyway) enrolled at the university.

Dan allowed the SFSU team to have 2 regulars last time. Of course I had to OK it with Dan way ahead of time.

The enrollment at university rule should be changed…now that Bihn is in charge and may have the power to do so…if asked…who knows…??? If so then Kid Lee should get in…And most Def. let me in that muthafucka!!!

 -B.

I WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE.

HOWEVER, I AM SHITTY.

WHEN WILL THE QUALIFIERS BE FOR UCB?

ANY ESTIMATE ON APPLICATION DEADLINES/OTHER RANDOM LIMITS/ # OF PARTICIPATANTS/ ETC ETC?

Uh… I think ENROLLMENT has to be a requirement although exceptions can be made for certain, DEFINITE regulars to a school arcade… I’m talking about like… PAT regular at bearcade…

If enrollment wasn’t required, then why has a UNIVERSITY BATTLE. It would be like any other “team” tourney with any team participating without actually belonging to a school…

Other than that, I think LB has to play either Tard or Joe for the spot on cvs2 team… Unless Steve wants to play this semester which I doubt… Then it’ll be LB vs Steve faceoff 2!

I HAVE NO IDEA WHO JOE IS.

TARD, HOWEVER, IS A STAR. I FUCKING SAW HIM ON NETWORK TV. I FUCKING TALKED TO A NETWORK STAR!!!

I EVEN BEAT HIS ASS DOWN, POINTED, LAUGHED, AND SPAT WHILE HE WAS IN THE FETAL POSITION TRYING TO MASH BUTTONS WITH HIS CRIPPLED FINGERS.

ON ISSUE ABOUT ENROLLMENT:

PAT ISN’T A REGULAR ANYMORE. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE USED TO BE/WAS A REGULAR, DOESN’T MEAN HE IS STILL. I THINK DEF. OF A REGULAR SHOULD JUST BE THAT. A REGULAR. CCG IS A REGULAR. NOT PAT.

THE WHOLE POINT ABOUT “ONLY UNIVERSITIES WITH AN ARCADE CAN PARTICIPATE” WAS BECAUSE THE UNDERLYING POINT OF THE UB WAS TO SEE WHICH SCHOOL HAD THE BEST OVERALL ARCADE (PLAYERS). DUE TO SOME MAIN PLAYERS OF THE SELECTED SCHOOL’S ARCADE BEING NON-STUDENTS, DAN HAS MADE EXCEPTIONS IN THE PAST. (I MIGHT BE TOTALLY WRONG HERE, BECAUSE I REMOTELY REMEMBER HEARING THAT IT WAS TO FIND OUT WHICH ARCADE WAS MORE BALANCED SKILL-WISE IN DIFFERENT GAMES)

BIHN HAS ALSO MADE AN EXCEPTION THIS SEMSTER, SAYING A SCHOOL NO LONGER IS REQUIRED TO HAVE AN ARCADE… THUS, I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE ‘WHICH SCHOOL HAS THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATE OF GOOD PLAYERS’… WHICH IS IN AFFECT GLORIFIED-YET-RESTRICTED TEAM TOURNAMENT. THIS MIGHT THROW OFF SOME PLAYERS WHO MIGHT HAVE ATTENDED OTHER SCHOOLS, BUT FREQUENTED OTHER ONES DUE TO COMPETITION…

THIS MIGHT DILUTE THE AVERAGE SKILL-LEVELS BECAUSE THERE WILL PROBABLY BE MORE ENTRANTS AND SEPERATION OF PLAYERS.

I THINK IT’LL BE FUN NONETHELESS… I JUST HOPE WE DON’T HAVE TOO MANY ENTRANTS AND RUN INTO HELLA TROUBLES… ESPECIALLY TIME (WHICH WASN’T A FACTOR DUE TO NICE WORK BY DAN)

I HOPE A FEW POINTS GETS ADDRESSED FOR THIS UB THO. AND I SUGGEST PEOPLE POST… ERR… SUGGESTIONS. ^^

  1. BECAUSE I PARTICIPATED IN MULTIPLE GAMES, I HAD TO MISS A LOT OF THE MORE IMPORTANT MATCHS THAT WERE BEING PLAYED. IF YOU CONSIDER A SCHOOL ONLY PLAYS 16 MATCHS AGAINST ANOTHER TEAM, MISSING A FEW IS STILL MISSING A LOT…

I KNOW TIME WILL BE EVEN A BIGGER PROBLEM THEN BEFORE, BUT I HOPE SOMETHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS… MAYBE A FASTER DISTRIBUTION OF THE MATCHS? MAYBE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF SCHEDULING? I DON’T KNOW… I GUESS WE CAN WORK AROUND IT.

  1. I RATHER ENJOY SOCIALIZING AFTER TOURNAMENTS AND MEETING NEW PEOPLE… HOWEVER, NONE OF THAT HAPPENED DURING LAST UB… MAYBE WE CAN I DON’T KNOW… HAVE SOME TOP TIER EVENT FOR GETTING TO KNOW THE SCENE BETTER.

WE CAN WEAR NAME TAGS AND GET A SHEET OF HEART-SHAPED STICKERS, AND STICK IT TO PEOPLE YOU LOVVLEZ. ^^

  1. THAT’S IT AS OF NOW… I LOVED UB THO.

  2. VERY SORRY FOR CAPS… I HOPE YOU GUYS UNDERSTAND… IT’S TEMPORARY (I WISH), BUT ITS PRETTY MUCH A REQUIREMENT FOR ME AT THE MOMENT. I APOLOGIZE AGAIN IF IT CAUSES YOU ANY DISTRESS…

Tae is right. If it weren’t for the ‘University’ part, it’d just be a team tourney. If you want a regular team tourney, maybe we can arrange one in the future.

I think post-tourney Hot Pot attendance should be mandatory.
