I really need to takes this into heart because I find myself giving up often. Whenever I lose to that flowchart I get so pissed. But a clear mind is what I need.
Go pro or go home.

Yea man, I’m gonna PLAY as much as I can. Never been much of a “practicer”, always preferring to learn stuff in actual matches against better players. The “get raped approach” is what taught me GG and Tek before I even set foot in a training mode. But you do need that training mode to fine tune your game. The whole reason stick frustrated me was because I always prided myself on my “reaction style/unorthodox way” of playing. Whereas some of my peers had all the combos, setups, etc., that was nice but they just couldn’t last. Combos only get you so far if you don’t have basics. Anyway, lot more shit made up my overall style in various games. But number one was always reaction. So naturally I can’t “react” on stick. Mental is all there and can’t execute lol. But it’s coming. I’m just going to get a shitload of REAL MATCHES as well as execution training.
Michael Jordan said that if you practiced harder than you actually played, that it’ll make the game easier. Well, that’s the mentality I’m possessing right now. And the only one that will get me to where I need to be efficiently and effectively. So all that repetition training is going to be in between bouts of getting smashed by decent players. Im worried about my basic movement and evasion on stick. I think you get that in those “oh shit” matches. Thanks.

Lol what’s up man. You tell me the same thing DreamTR always tells me. OG players could always adapt though. Being born and bred on pads is a hindrance. Don’t blame me lol. I played on Korean Stick before I knew Kodee was going to make me one. The Saulabi. Battop, circle gate. It was hella nice for Tek. But you’d have basically always know where the corners were. Don’t speak on going between games. Going back to GG I was trying to throw peeps with P+K, sweeping with taunt, and a load of other crap. In SFIV on stick, I still can’t throw tech on reaction like I once could. I get pretty heated. Imma keep at it though man. I want this. Thanks.

Yes son. Yes.
Find a comfortable way to hold the stick.
Play some shmups. They require quick, precise taps in random directions. This will help you build endurance in your wrist muscles.
Just curious, exactly what limitations have you hit on the pad? What specifically
is giving you trouble? I didn’t see it in another post but I may have missed it.
thats actually a really good idea as im having a a hard time double tapping the stick. any schnup specifically? im thinking raiden or something.
Bullet pattern shmups. They require you to keep a tight line inside waves of bullet barf.
Try Mushihimesama.

I want a real HQ version of that video.
Practice every day with the stick, take your pad to tournaments for a while until you get comfortable enough to use the stick. But bring it with you so you can get in some real games with it during casuals.
Lol really? I don’t have any shmups except RE5 but I believe that’s just a 3rd person shooter. Makes sense though. I do need to build that wrist endurance. Damn…
What exactly do you mean? Why I’m converting? Or once I started converting and tried going back? Well I wanted stick because my character has a lot of piano’ing, strumming, drumming, sliding, however your way of doing it, for many of his moves, combos, etc. I half-assed this on pad. And it was fucking uncomfortable and often painful. Plus I play Tek with fingers on buttons like a pad/stick hybrid. The STICK part of stick is what gives me the trouble. Button placement I will come to adjust to in no time.
Once I played on stick only for maybe a week and tried going back to pad for a few matches after I was getting owned hard, pad felt awkward and cramped. I had gotten too far into the stages of stick adaptation, slowly relieving myself of 2nd nature pad I guess. I’m at a crossroads. Which I why I only wish to move forward on stick. To play pad again would require at least a few matches before I’m ok. But I’m still excellent on pad for DR/BR.
I don’t bring my pad anywhere with me except for Tek or some GG nostalgia. SF I’m straight stick. I believe the only way for me to fully convert is to go hard and all the way. In saying that, I should prob be using stick for Tek too but, umm, don’t wanna get raped in everything.
That’s what I meant. I just wasn’t sure what your motivation for moving to stick
was. If you were basically having no probs on the pad, I was going to recommend
just sticking with pad. But since you obviously have execution related reasons, then
stick with it. No, that was not a pun.
I agree with this.
For me, it was about a month of practice before I was on par with what I could do with the pad. Now I’ve long since surpassed it.
Besides the better execution possibilities, I was going to switch anyway. Say I wanted to hit a arcade. It’s often at the owner’s discretion whether or not pad ports were installed. If they weren’t, and I’m still a pad warrior exclusively, I’m screwed. And I think japanese sticks are becoming the current trend so I’m learning that.
I don’t wanna sound like a dick and I’m an 09er and i probably have already gathered plenty of hate round here but am I the only one that made the transition in less than a week?
If it took you less that a week to get to the same point you were at, you probably weren’t that good on the pad in the first place.
And i saw that coming right out of the corner of my eye
Wow dude you must be extremely talented.
Happy now ?
damn straight
It took me about two weeks of playing an hour a day. It really shouldn’t take more than 20~ solid hours of play.
I find it hard to believe you transitioned to a stick in less than a week. If you did, that is great. You can only get better. I made a decision yesterday that I am no longer playing any fighter on a pad. I sticking with the stick, no pun, until I perfect it. Also, my TE should be in today, so I hope having “real” arcade parts really make a difference. I’m currently using a Hori FS3. First, it’s to lite so I have to keep repositioning myself, and the buttons seems like they jam alot. Not sure, I guess I’ll be able to compare later tonight.
