Undamned's USB Decoders (USB to JAMMA, etc.)!

IF there are any left I am definitely interested in purchasing and can get the money too ya immediately!

Assuming some idiot beta testers know how to set up the board correctly LOL.

Same here! looking forward to building a silly case for it!

WHAAAAT??? You didn’t cross link to the UDCPS 2 thread?? You KNEW I was interested in this. And your target price is what I thought was reasonable as well! And no email?? TAKE MY MONEY NOW and send me a prototype!

I had to hear that you released this from eltrouble on facebook!

“Assuming some idiot beta testers know how to set up the board correctly LOL.”
“TAKE MY MONEY NOW and send me a prototype!”

i feel this discussion becomes ugly

A.) Keep your shirt on.
B.) Not everyone who’s ever expressed interest in these (many over probably a couple years now) is a beta tester.
C.) They aren’t released. As mentioned above, “Tentatively early March.”

I think Dark Sakul might have been making fun of himself. He had a hard time getting the bootloader working.

Eyup.

Cant wait for this!

I got excited. Sue me. I thought they were released, and under the impression that everyone who bought one was a tester.

I did a ctrl+f fot “early march” and that was mentioned in the block text in the middle of your huge opening post. In a section that I skimmed because I felt it wasn’t important information for me. If you had it at the beginning or end I would have caught it.

Everything I say is important… to everyone… especially you.

Other words Reading is Fundamental.

@Undammed I should have something to show ya by this weekend.

Hi undamned,

Glad to see this projects working out well. Just registering interest again.

Thanks,

Craig

Could there be batches compatible with MAS setups? A lot of those are still selling on ebay, and I’ve wired up my sticks to be compatible with it (especially since my brother bought his supergun from them almost a decade ago). If not I’d have to use the screw terminals. But just inquiring.

I don’t get what your asking here.

Undammed USB encoder takes the signals from an existing USB arcade stick like a PS3 or Xbox 360 stick and converts the signals to something Jamma or a HD15 connector could use.
If your MAS stick already set up for SuperGuns, you don’t need this board, this board is so that you can use a modern USB controller with your super gun or consolize arcade board.

Hey, I did read. It wasn’t even the first post. it was buried in the thread. in the middle of technical stuff I didn’t bother to decipher at the time.

Ok. My bad. I’ll get a copy of your housekeys made so i won’t miss anything in the future =)

Mas superguns are wired with a DSUB 25 not 15. Though they use 15 of the 25 pins. So they should have stuck with a DSUB15. But for whatever reason they put in DSUB25. Whether it was to give people options of expanding more inputs if they need. rotatory joystick or mahjong buttons maybe. But now everyone that bought superguns from them since the 1990’s via mail order until the recent internet boom of 5-7 years ago is using them. Thus a potential large sale base is out there with MAS Dsub25’s. Including those like myself you made their ports to be compatible with MAS sticks by using the dsub25’s.

But that’s exactly what @Darksakul was referring to: these USB–>discrete PCBs simply take the USB signal and translate them to separate signals for U/D/L/R, 1/2/3/4/5/6, Start/Coin. D-Sub 15, D-Sub 25; those are just connectors, and really are outside of anything that this PCB uses or cares about.

If you’re referring to the D-Sub 15 versions that @undamned will be releasing down the line, it’s because the majority of modern Superguns built are all built to Neo-Geo controller port specs. Regardless, as long as you know the pinout to your D-Sub 25, you can wire up your own converters with a male (or female, whichever) D-Sub 25 port with these USB–>discrete PCBs.

This isn’t about “compatibilty” per say; technically, these PCBs are compatible with pretty much literally everything, from Superguns to RC cars to toasters. It’s just a matter of people actually understanding what they want/need out of these.

and that’s what I’m referring to. I know he was planning on releasing D-sub15’s, but why not also do D-sub25’s since that was the standard before neogeo based superguns messed changed that standard just because. The pinout is all over the place compared to MAS as well. MAS was the standard since the early 90’s when they were giving away their superguns and controllers to tournament winners. Was how people were playing arcade boards at home well before the internet took over.

Honestly which pinout makes more sense? Having the pins go in order, up, down, left, right, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ground, start, coin, +5v, nc
MAS

Or the new supergun standard neogeo based? ground, 6, coin, 4 ,2, right, down, +5v, nc, 5, start, 3 ,1, left, up

If not I can wire it up myself. I just don’t see why I can’t request a logical pinout header. Nor why I’m getting all this backlash because everyone is accustomed to that messed up pinout from neo geo.

That neo geo based design just screams that someone was too lazy to adapt the set standard from mas systems and just wanted to use their neo geo stick instead and everyone jumped ship for some reason. The AES was a failed system so it isn’t like there are millions of homes with those controllers/sticks to use.

Sorry, didn’t mean to have it sound like backlash or anything.

I can’t argue that the MAS layout you mentioned IS more intuitive, but I’m wondering on the number of people using MAS Superguns these days compared to people use Superguns with the Neo-Geo standard instead?

While I don’t necessarily agree with the button layout (was hella confusing when wiring up my own Supergun the first time), I do think, for minimalistic purposes, the DA-15 plug is more economical than the DB-25 plug, simply just because it’s smaller and there’s less unused pins that are just sitting there.

I don’t know the real reason that the Neo controller pinout was used for Superguns, nor will I pretend to, but while it may just be the forums and circles that I frequent, I personally haven’t seen anyone use a MAS Supergun. I don’t think @undamned’s in the wrong for using the format that is the generally accepted popular standard now, regardless of how weird that standard looks from a design or technological point of view.

I suppose I just feel that your discontentment is misplaced; rather than “Why is undamned supporting the popular-but-retarded standard?”, it would be more of “Why did people adopt this standard to begin with?”. Hypothetically, had the MAS pinout been adopted as the standard, I’m sure undamned would’ve made that his default layout.

In the end, it sounds like having to solder in your own output plug isn’t a problem, so unfortunately, that’ll probably be the best course of action. Regardless, it won’t change the fact that we’ll be getting a kick-ass PCB that’s versatile in so many ways.

the NEO GEO 15 pin standard is used as NEO GEO controllers can be used without any modification.
NEO GEO controllers have no Encoders and no PCB circuits to speak off except to facilitate in wiring buttons and d-pad to a 15 pin connector.

As you see here there plenty of room not just for Neo Geo, but for capcom 6 button layouts
