A lot of the criticism put in this thread is from people butthurt over video games. It’s nonsense to me when I am looking at the bigger, world-wide picture of feminism and its importance. If you want to look at it through your minimal scope, fine. Just don’t say it is unnecessary in a world where being a woman clearly is a bad draw.
I also don’t get why people are calling my support of feminism a troll. I’ve long been for the equality of genders. I tend not to deal with a lot of ratchet ass women you clowns must be around because very few women have caused me actual problems. But then again I think I am in an entirely different world that the vast majority of you.

The only way you’ll change people from acting like twat’s online, is to remove anonymity. I’ve personally always felt that XBox and PS accounts shouldn’t be anonymous, and therefore when somebody is labelled a racist, EVERYBODY knows. Like you could just go to school, see a kid, look him up online, and immediately know how much stupid shit he’s said.
Human’s are cowardly little fuckers, and being anonymous gives us the ‘courage’ to be assholes to everything, to make up for how fucking awful their own life is. As long as you can go and type “FUCK OFF AND DIE” and nobody knows that 26 year old Jim Smith of New York, 123 Fake Street, 10163, was behind it all, it ain’t ever going away.
That being said, the logical solution now would be to raise people with thicker skins, who can understand that when some asshole is running around being a racist dick, just ignore them, or move on. Too many people feel that they have to deal with something. Fuck that, move along. I don’t stand there and have a debate with ranting lunatic homeless fucks when I’m downtown, why in the fucking fuck would I bother doing it online?
The issue with doing it that way is you might be abandoning something you love to do. If the answer to the abuse during online play is “move on” that is pretty much telling me to stop playing a game I enjoy. I’ve gone for a bit of a more nuanced approach, outright just muting everything. Sucks when you meet randoms online who are a genuine pleasure to play side-by-side with and those one in every 10 game assholes who get online just to call you slurs and shit.
And removing anonymity would most assuredly help with this, but then you’ll get privacy advocates riled up. Suddenly when you want people to own up what they say they get skittish and hide behind the privacy rights blanket.
Didn’t mean move on from the game. But you’re silly if you think there aren’t a myriad of ways to deal with it responsibly like an adult. Most games take racist reports seriously, and will ban you for retarded shit said over chat or mics. So you can report them, or you can mute them, or you can change servers. There are tons of ways to deal with somebody being a dick online, rather than yell back at them, or quit your game.
I’m all for anonymity over the net, but in gaming, fuck that. For years I’ve wanted consoles to not be anonymous, and more importantly, I’ve wanted them to handle rage quitters properly. Gimme two tiers of online gaming. Casual, where you can be a dick, anonymity rules, everybody plays Call of DootDoot, and you can grief and rage quit all you want. Then a Gamer tier, where you have to register to get access, so they know who you are (to appropriately ban/suspend you when you break the rules), sportsmanship exists (so you can stop having puberty riddled kids screaming at me in breaking voices because they suck at games and screaming at their mom seems to fix their problems), and rage quitting gets you a nice healthy ban from the community, to prevent other people from having to put up with your stupidity. Oh you gotta go for dinner and it’s mid match? Either wait to eat, or next time learn to find out how much free time you have before you launch a game.
ps - i also don’t think it’s possible to feasibly do this right now, but whatever.
One of my biggest gripes with UMvC3 is how they talked about removing rage quitters from the online experience when all they did was move them over to some group where it was easy to just get back into the regular fold.
Ban all rage quitters. I don’t give a fuck. They ruin everything.
I’ve been saying that since I first played Gears of War on XBOX live. Game would do 4v4, then one dude would inevitably ragequit, and now you either ragequit yourself, or get buttfucked 4v3 or worse. UMvC3 would just make you face another rage quitter then if you didn’t ragequit you were right back facing normal people, allowing you to ragequit all over again. LOL deals with it interestingly well, where they ban you for awhile if you ragequit, but I’d prefer lengthier bans.
My other gripe is AFK assholes. People who load a game and do like my friend (start texting people because Lord help you if you have to go 12 seconds without saying “K” or “lol” to somebody), or alt+tab to go look at porn or something, then the game starts and you’re down a guy right away. This usually inevitably leads to ragequits.
tl;dr I want them to making a better online gaming experience where shit feels more professional, I’d be willing to pay extra for this. No more 12 year old anonymous cowards calling me the n-bomb, no more pimply fucktard rage quitting because it’s 1-0 and his two dyke mom’s never taught him how to handle losing, no more stupidity.

Have you guys read the stream chat during any fighting game (or other game) stream when a girl passes by? What about when they are showing the cosplays? This isn’t just a few people saying shit, it’s a very large group of people. It gets to the point where I can understand why women might not even want to appear on live stream or worse, not even attend those events. Are they just supposed to ignore everything? It’s easier said than done.
I feel that this is becoming a fundamental problem in society. It isn’t just about laws, it’s the general way in which women are perceived and the roles they are assigned.
I’ve gone to FGC events for about 13 years now. All OGs will say the same thing to you: Leave your woman at home. I’ve seen it all, from dudes following Ricki Ortiz before the change and dudes stalking women because they are too afraid to say hi. It sucks because a lot of women would like to go there but are scared of what might happen.
I still remember a very recent bar event with a very well-known FGC player. I was talking to a woman with who runs a video game business and she seemed to be flirting with me. I flirted back but there was no chance of it going anywhere since I had a gf and I think she had a bf. It was still fun. However, he saw me do this and proceeded to get in between us like we weren’t talking, he pretended not to know me, then tried to saddle next to her. She kept crawling away. I left the situation, gave her my contact info, and disappeared. I just couldn’t be a part of that trifling shit.
Another incident involved another known FGC player I went out with who didn’t know how to talk to women, period. He made the bar scene real uncomfortable and I noticed some people were actively avoiding us. He also constantly brought up video games whenever he got nervous so he pretty much talked about fighting games all night. I told my buddy that we can never go out with dudes like this again.
I’m not even going to get into when I see groups of them follow sexy cosplayers around a venue but are too afraid to even speak a word. Or, even worse, use hover hands when taking photos.
This scene terrifies me.
I hate to be the Captain Obvious of the hour, but getting triggered over the foolhardy stuff people say on the Internet and getting upset over the fact that legitimately-unacceptable stuff of the sort you just mentioned is allowed to happen without those who pull it being put in their place as punishment are two very, VERY different things. One is worth grabbing the popcorn and laughing oneself silly over, and the other is worth taking completely seriously.
The trouble is that people either don’t care to solve issues like this in the first place due to the bystander syndrome, care a LOT but are wary of disrupting status quo even if it’s for a good cause, participate in 'em and don’t want them cracked down on, and/or they are selfish, stupid sorts (like SJWs) and aren’t exactly clear on/are clear on but don’t care about which of the two deserves action, let alone attention. …IMO.
Honestly this is the bigger issue. Even in M:TG where the community is 99% more awkward than this one, most of the complaints by women can be filed under this. My problem, though, is that dudes who can’t and try get shitted on unfairly for it. Some dudes are utterly borked as far as talking to women goes, but the current crop of hardline online SJWs won’t help to fix that issue.
I could get behind a UN panel about trying to insure that the internet remains a place of free ideas and free associations. That women of the world could benefit from higher levels of digital literacy to empower then. (In the case of regions where woman are treated like shit, ways to improve their lives)
The fact that Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn got dragged into it is ludicrous. Both are feminists in name only. One who sleeps around to advance her own career. (instead of, oh I don’t know, actually advancing through merit) or one who blatantly uses victim-hood as a way to make money. Hell, 4-5 years later and still not any sign of that 600k being used.
Both are jokes and should be laughed out of any sort of serious panels about equality and feminism.
The fact that most of their arguments boil down to: “Stop criticizing my criticism or that means you are a woman hating monster” should be a big red flag to any sane person.
