UMVC3 Zero changes UPDATED DECEMBER PATCH

I’ve seen Zero’s Bradygames BnB still work in the comic con tournament so Zero should be mostly unaffected. All I’m worried about now is Dante. If the Zero/Dante DHC doesn’t work that’s trouble.

Why wouldn’t it work, Dante got changed or something? EVO just ended yesterday, so probably across tomorrow and Wednesday we should be getting some great details of UMVC3 from EVO. Hopefully somebody (SamuraiX I am looking at you bro) tested out some Zero stuff, more importantly Ride the Lightning.

I’d imagine that if they wanted to nerf Dante they would so something like make Acid Raid or Cold Shower affected by hitstun scaling. If it is, then the Zero/Dante DHC is effectively nerfed.

The DHC Glitch was completely taken out wasn’t it?

yes

Then I’d assume the Dante/Zero DHC is gone too. Sorry @Evil_ToasterofFP.

Zero/Dante DHC is not a glitch. Neither is Dante/Zero Million Dollars -> Sougnemu.

Oh oh, I misread it then. So you mean Right before Million Dollars ends you sougenmu and launch into Setsuizan Loop? or Sougenmu into Raikousen loop? (if thats possible.)

Before the last shot of Million Dollars you Sougenmu and go right into the Raikousen loop (the second to last hit of Million Dollars causes this weird spin animation which is soft knockdown).

The Zero Dante DHC is rekkoha->devil trigger and you have Dante do a few acid rain loops (all soft knockdown) into his bread and butter Otg combo ender. It’s likely to be unaffected actually (and even if they do make acid rain affected by hitstun staling for some reason, he can still just super jump S into his Otg series. You just lose out on some damage).

If they were gonna nerf Dante, I doubt that’s where they’d start.

Agree with Sonic, if they are going to nerf Dante, that’s not the way to go. But that’s another discussion. With the whole overall hitstun decay change that is rumored, I highly doubt it’s gonna affect our combos. Things like the Shippuga Loop can be changed a little bit by taking out a few moves that don’t matter much.

Dante changes so far (I feel that it’s relevant for some Zero players). What I take from this is

  1. Practice doing Otgs after J.S or Hammer faster if you’re doing something other than his enders.
  2. Practice alternate hitconfirms off of the same openers because the less vertical hitboxes might make it miss smaller characters at max speed and delaying hits will likely make it drop because of the higher HSD rate.
  3. Easier inputs for Dante’s specials is a possibility? (Hammer now has one of the easiest inputs ever, and is actually faster because of it)
  4. Practice doing :df::h::h::h: xx :f::h: (Stinger)->Bold Move->airdash backwards j.:s: because apparently the :df::h::h::h: lifts them higher

Basically, practice more Dante combos because you’re probably going to need different combos off of different hitconfirms.

So I’m curious, do you think my BnB of TvC would work? Right after shippugga you ryenjin into Lvl3 Buster then raikousen into launch? and can you Hyenkyaku before and after a Lvl3 Shot?

So I didn’t get to test much at Evo as far as Zero goes… everyone was playing their vanilla teams and just doing old shit, and not being a stick player made it pretty much impossible to test anything with higher execution. Zero being able to cancel everything ever into buster though is fucking awesome, that’s a huge buff IMO. We’re looking at a much better Zero.

One thing I did test though, Rekkoha seems unchanged, I don’t know why people were saying it seems different.

It might be because of the UI/Camera angle changes that people think it’s wider. I’m pretty sure it’s the same and it just looks wider. To me the game looks like it’s zoomed closer than in FoTW

All of Zero’s command dashes are slower. Buster seems to charge slower but I’m not entirely sure. Didn’t get to test the special into buster cancel. May be a gimmick, may be useful.

Lvl 3 not hard KD may be a huge nerf. Zero’s strong in vanilla because he can confirm long range busters into full combos. Hope he is still able to.

Sorry guys, I may be dropping Zero for Strider. Can’t really justify them being on the same team because of the low health and meter usage.

Command dash could be half as fast as they are now and still be almost just as useful. Not too worried about that. Buster still charges fast enough for BnB’s to work. Assist enders or lightning loops may work different with charging timing change, but no biggie.

Zero is strong primarily for many reasons other than getting a combo off a full screen buster, because that’s only realistically possible with something like Wesker assist to OTG faster than Zero can. Buster into Raikousen will still work just the same (I assume)

From all the videos I’ve seen, Buster into Raikouzen works exactly the same. Rekkuha is the same. Raikouzen speed is the same.
Haven’t checked on the command dashes, but I believe tastylumpia.

Agree with Toast, command dashes could be half as fast and I would still like the mix-up+combo after potential with an assist.

@lumpia (Beware of highly unimportant and probably boring story)
If you want to use Strider and Zero on the same team (guessing they are you’re favorite characters), ***MAKE THEM WORK. ***
I remember back when I was starting in MVC2, I would get scraped by the top tiers all day and I used to get annoyed on how weaker my characters where (Strider, Cammy, Ice-Man vs Mags, Storm, Sent). A year after, I was beating everybody online now with my Clockwork team. 80% of the time it was a win for me. Around that time I faced a guy that was using Tron-a/Cyclops-y/and Gambit-a or Thanos-a can’t remember. The point is, in my head I was thinking “Wow, scrub alert, this guy puts Tron on point and pick the wrong assist for Tron and Cyclops, he’s done.”

Once the match started, I set-up Ouroboros and get him in a mix-up with Drones and teleports, his Tron was down to 50%. From there and on, if would’ve been the samee if I would’ve disconnected my controller. The guy had amazing resets and setups specifically for his team. Cyclops and Tron Bonne made me look more pringles than Magneto ever did. After the match ended and my Sentinel was raped, the guy sends me a message saying: “Come play some matches”. I go ahead and play, well more like “watch my death” 20 times, and then the guy send me another message saying something like:
— "MVC2 is dead. There’s no need to follow the rules and use the top tier teams. ***Have fun ***now and enjoy the game, there’s no need to pick top tier anymore. You asked about my setups, well I putted a ***lot of effort on the characters I actually like ***instead of the more powerful ones. Even if the characters you like don’t play well together, MAKE THEM WORK.

So story is over, but I’ll never forget that message. MAKE THEM WORK

Semi-related, I keep thinking for some reason that Dr. Strange will have the best assist for Zero. I have no idea why I think this, but for some reason I keep telling myself that. Will probably be the first thing I test when I get the game.

Strider and Zero seem like they’ll actually have fairly good synergy. Strider’s teleport kick assist ground bounces for easy combo extensions and helps catch characters who like to super jump a lot, his sword slash assist has really good range and wallbounces (another thing Zero doesn’t use :p), and he’s got a good super to DHC into for safe DHCs. Zero’s a great battery to get your strider stocked with 3+ meter when he comes in as well. You won’t get the crazy rushdown potential that you get with Drones/Tatsu/Jam Session, but it’s it’s certainly a lot better than some of the other Zero teams I’ve seen.

Strider/Zero is also workable. Zero’s assists won’t be helping strider much (other than doubled Hadangeki cause it’s SOOOO GOOOOD), but he does give you cool DHC options (assuming that you can still DHC after the animals come out). If you chose to go with Ryuuenjin instead of Hadangeki, you’ll get an invincible crossover counter (with air x-factor that should lead to dead characters).

I think that if you want to put Strider and Zero on the same team you should go with

Zero (Hadangeki)/Strider (teleport kick or horizontal slash)/Projectile assist.

I can’t wait to find out what kind of assists Vergil has. If Dante’s any indicator, characters with “lot’s and lot’s of moves” tend to have good assists.

If I don’t like any of the new Capcom characters or they don’t have great assists, I would most probably use Zero-a (depends on how good it extends Strider’s combos)/Strider-y/Doom-a.

@Toast
lol. Please Capcom, give any of the new Capcom characters (or Strange) a Drones assist. Thanks.
