Also depends on your assists. Some assists help you force the issue.
Not the stream I was hoping to find but there is alot of Green Ace’s Trish here.
Yeah his Trish is pretty sick!
So Ive been playing this Trish Doom Wesker and loving it. And Im under the impression Dante is the only 2nd that fits this role (for pure unblockables strategy) as well as Doom. I was just wondering if anyone could explain how it works with Dante, since it appears none of the players who use the team do it as a straight unblockables team. Like, after the Round Harvest - tag, what’s the ideal way to do the unblockable? Gun + boxjump M or H? Or gun + jS?
I know if the round Harvest hits and they fly into the air, a sj Hammer is good. And I remember Nini Heart once saying (albiet for vanilla) that Dante Combo to Million Dollars xx DHC Round Harvest lead to “easy TODs.” Is this still the case?
Anyway, I’d love if someone wanted to share an entire Dante followup combo after the unblockable, but mostly for now I’m just looking for how he actually best DOES it, and can experiment on the combo myself. Anyone have any idea? Or is it better w/ Doom so I shouldn’t bother? I love Dante and Doom, so thought it’d be good to “swing both ways.” Thanks!
My understanding of how it works is that any character in the cast can abuse Round Harvest unblockables with a low hitting assist, which Wesker provides. Green Ace does it, and he does it a few times without even using Round Harvest first. Just time your point character (in your case, Dante) so that their air attack hits at the same time Wesker’s assist hits. The air attack (Dante’s jump S, I believe, is what Green Ace uses) has to be blocked high while Wesker’s assist has to be blocked low=unblockable. Round Harvest is just there to force them into block stun. I use Viper and Amaterasu to get my Round Harvest unblockables which is totally different than a high/low thing so I might be wrong, but I’m pretty confident that’s how it works. If Wesker is your anchor assist it doesn’t matter who the 2nd character is. Just use an air normal to hit overhead while Wesker does his low assist. It’s just a timing thing that a few minutes in training mode can help you adjust to.
As far as a follow up combo to get big damage with Dante, I cannot help you out. He’s been a character that I always thought looked like alot of fun to use but was such a douchy character and way too overused I just couldn’t do it myself. However, I’m sure if you check out the Dante forums there will be a plethora of combos for you to look at. Remember, pre Round Harvest, Trish is a very meh damage character. But her BnB’s pre hyper are still gonna net you 400-500k damage, so all you need is another 500-600k combo to kill almost the entire cast. And since that second half of the combo is almost always going to build another meter for a hyper you will get that damage.
Haha, thanks. I get the mechanics of the unblockable. This aint my first rodeo I just didnt know if Dante had an optimized sequence (ie if a jS is preferable to a box jump, or teleport, etc). Though what I didn’t know that I was wondering is if Harvest causes enough block stun for any character to initiate the unblockable with a jumping normal (as opposed to needing a box jump or trijump or instant overhead of some kind). So that’s cool. Though even with all those possibilities, it seems Doom corner combo is still probably one of the game’s most damaging followups that doesn’t require any assist extension. I’m trying to think who else could, like Doom, give Trish a virtual TOD in that slot.
Also, Im quite familiar w/ Dante’s combo options in general. Again, I was just wondering if there were any sequences specific to this team/setup/strategy. Or if it was just a matter of “insert BNB here,” which it appears it is. Either way, thanks for taking the time to respond! Now I just need to figure out the answer to my hit confirm question (a few posts up I think).
Trish has never been a damage character pound for pound versus characters like Viper or Wesker. If people aren’t approaching you, then thats perfectly fine to keep Trish in a neutral game and shooting voltages and laying traps. Trish’s lame game is similar to how lame Taskmasters play. The want you to block arrows and get the chip damage that accompanies it. If you have hidden missiles assist and the opponent is not trying to get in on you, then the missiles equal free chip damage on the opponent. So don’t sweat it so much that you are not doing “damage” by actually landing solid hits. Life leads can mean a lot too depending on when you’re using Trish on point.
Yeah Trish’s damage is pretty meh. But I think her amazing neutral game and unblockable makes up for that. And on me playing jago. I felt like I definitely could of done better but I was pretty nervous and didn’t make some of the best decisions in that set. But I didn’t get bodied or anything.
And once the sfxt hype blows over you guys can see some of the new tech I have with trish now that I switched my team order. And I’ll make sure trish does better than top 32 at the next major I go to.
Going to CEO? We should get some games in if you are =0.
Yeah I’ll definitely be at ceo.
And I really like the trish forums. It might not be active but at least there’s meaningful conversations going on here. I wouldnt mind posting my opinions and set ups here more often
Please do! I thought Trish was likely my best character in vanilla, but dropped 'er due to said meh damage, but upon working with her unblockable strategies (mostly with Trish Doom Wesker) she’s back to being my #1 gal.
I was askin above about Date in Doom’s place for the unblockables and since I see that’s how you play it, was wondering if you feel he’s best suited for the job? or one of many good candidates, etc? Too fun!
With an optimized BNB for Dante you can get pretty easy TOD with Round Harvest DHC.
These are both without assist, and assist, of course, could add more meter/damage:
- Tag Dante: :qcf::uf::l: :qcf::uf::l::s:normal jump j.:s::dp:
add:m::f::h:BC:qcb::h:add:h: Million Dollars
- Tag Dante: :qcf::uf::l: :qcf:
add:m: :dp:
add:m::f::h:BC:qcb::h:add:h: Million Dollars
Those are pretty simple, but remember the second one requires you to have a ground bounce. With assist you can of course do different things (Vajra allows an easy, but effective, extension with :qcf:add
, and Hidden Missiles is also fun to play around with). Take note that when you tag you generally need to dash forward, but if you dash too far forward you will cross yourself up (I often times get Acid Rain and then Reverb Shock :[) Your Dante combo + these post-tag combos should build you the meter you need, but if not, you have at your disposal several good reset opportunities because of your opponents height. (Acid Rain, crossing under, teleport, etc.)
Yeah Dante is a way better fit than doom. Not only for unblockable set ups but he’s by far the better character when there’s no strong nuetral game changing assist like wesker’s samurai edge.
Also if the opponent raw tag the unblockable set up he can teleport jump s into this
I think by far the best order to run the team is Trish/Wesker/Dante which is the way im playing it now. Have fun with it. It’s super cheap lol
Why Wesker 2nd? Definitely not saying you’re wrong, would just love to hear the explanation. just because Wesker is so nasty w/ Weasel Shot? I never really anchored w/ Dante, but dont see why it wouldn’t be nutty. Though I’m def not used to playing Dante w/o an assist. Though I suppose w/ Wesker behind him, that’s what I’d be doing anyway.
I personally hate wesker anchor since your pretty much playing with 2 anchors since weskers assist isn’t worth shit in the neutral game. Plus wesker + weasle shot > dante + samurai edge. Honestly, were it not for the unblockable set-ups, id run wesker on point, since he gets so much mileage outta that peekabo assist.
Plus dante’s a solid anchor even without x-factor since unlike wesker, he can cover his offense, build back his health, and is just a lot more versatile.
On a different note, how do y’all feel bout my team of trish/Sentinel(drones)/Hawkeye(greyhound)? I know a big part of trish’s game are the unblockables so I was wondering how y’all felt bout a trish team that didn’t take advantage of those. Plus would you even considering switching sentinel to rocket punch for those otg’s of air throws?
I felt the same way about Wesker anchor for the same reason. No assist in back? Screw that! But now that Im playing a team that wants it, and between the option of DHCing Wesker in so he can play XF2 w/ a beam, or just XF3 Wesker in general… oh baby. I always felt “dark wesker” was over hyped, but he is still damn good.
I don’t think I’ve ever used Trish with a OTG or unblockable assist. CurtyPie scrub for life
You cannot rely on unblockables to win you the match, and they shouldn’t be the end all be all of your game plan. It should be another tool that the opponent has to deal with and think about. People do not have that much experience against Trish to begin with, much less unblockable round harvest setups. Granted there are reactions that the opponent can do to get them out of the situation ie alpha counter, xfc into lvl3, etc; are they going to have the experience and confidence in executing those options?
For Trish, Doom, Wesker: when I was first running this team my order was, Trish/Wesker/Doom. I would run into some problems when Trish gets opened up and/or fails to actually land a combo in the corner. Now I run Wesker/Trish/Doom, with much more success. Wesker provides the raw priority and offense power to get the opponent to stop hitting buttons. You can actually TAC into Trish, do some extra combo damage, and then end it into a hard knockdown into an unblockable setup.
Jago uses some interesting post-OTG mixups using peekaboo assist which is another good reason to start Wesker first.
If Wesker gets into trouble he has a really good DHC options into round harvest or max voltage which are good safe DHCs that reset the situation to where Trish gets to start her keepaway/zoning. Doom anchor might be iffy for some people, but if Wesker eats a TOD combo, Trish/Doom still make a great combination.
jill arrow kick is my neutral assist with trish on point =)
LESSGO!
which means i do approx. zero chip when i lame out and the other guy doesn’t rush down. i do achieve ghetto ewok tactics though. its just that someone who is really patient can get around everything i do and counterattack accordingly
Is it better to go for an unblockable or get guaranteed damage that won’t kill?
I’m also running Trish/Wesk/Doom(missiles). Using missiles to let me get in and dance on their head, meaning the combo is already scaled with missiles and L’s. The round trip+Wesker extension adds a bit but I can only get an air max voltage afterwards. So instead of using that meter for a max voltage, I should just throw a round harvest, tag doom, call wesk and jS into corner loop?
Is there a list of possible escapes? xfc into level 3 is probably not going to happen on the first character, either they wont have the meter or wont think it’s worth using all that to save your point char. For alpha counters, only ones that have high priority/invincible startups can get out right?
Any character with a dragon punch alpha counter is a free escape, but if your opponent times their alpha counter properly, a lot of others can escape. Like I’ve seen someone use iron mans unibeam and I’ve used hawkeyes greyhound(straight shot) to escape as well. If you time the alpha counter so the invincibility kicks in right as doom and wesker are hitting you you’ll avoid the hit. Then you have any character with an invincible hyper like sentinel, akuma, c.viper, morrigan(has 2 invincible hypers), dr. strange(if round harvest is considered a projectile) but this requires 2 bars.
Then you have the raw tag strategy which either reduces the overall damage, or simply avoids it by making it hard for doom to convert of the round harvest. And Im sure with time more escape strategies will pop out.
