Absolutely, I’m trialing him on a Thor team (another under-rated char) and Unibeam is a fantastic assist.
Thor will always be underrated. Why…I have no idea.
Iron Man is a bad character that still has some reasons that you might pick him (assists), GR not so much.
Also, Damage is not his issue, Iron Man has some of the higher damage combo’s in the game. It’s that he has no real way of getting hits, and his tools don’t really function well in the zoning role. So he winds up being a character that doesn’t function well no matter what role you try to play him as.
Except, in Ultimate, Thor is actually pretty damned good.
The only reason why GR attack-throws aren’t a throw is because they thought it be too cheap. I remember a stream where Champ was wondering if Ghost Rider’s attackable throws are throws…Seth was all like"Hell no, those are not true grabs!"
Honeslty Ghost Rider could change in time, but right now he just has issues fighting up close.
MODOK vs Ghost rider -
Ghost Rider uses chain:
MODOK pushblock…PSIONIC BLASTER, PSIONIC BLASTER, PSIONIC BLASTER, PSIONIC BLASTER.
Ghost RIder - Jumps to avoid spam.
MODOK - meets him from beneath for throw or lays a mine. Commence rushdown + assist/TOD
MODOK only loses if he’s sleeping.
Add assists and it changes a little, just takes longer.
El Maiz: True my MODOK team is quite odd, but that’s because I believe in modoks JC rushdown game.
That and I throw…A LOT, offline anyway my MODOK team is designed too stack cubes and save meter for
SUPER SKRULL. Who imo has a nasty teleport projectile game similar to Dorm…only know combos more…INFERNO!
Yeah it is sad that a really good and popular character like Thor gets practically no spotlight because people take what Mike Ross said about him in early vanilla seriously. I would also like to add that Mike Ross sucks at marvel.
Until he gets a rapid fire +1 on block c.L and 3 part chains and all of that, no ones gonna care about him.
People just generally have a predisposition to characters that don’t follow the normal attacking or movement rules.
Same problem with Doom in Vanilla and his inability to cancel his dashes into normals and now Iron Man’s UMVC3 ADDF that’s designed for super jump height now.
True. I’m still repping the Odinson though…kinda. pours out a 40 of Odin’s beer
i don’t see no thor in that main teams list
people are gonna be in for one hell of a ride when they realize thor can now actually confirm off air to air hits now
i really don’t understand why folks underestimate him so much… thorhealth + everything he has makes him a very serious threat on second or point since a lot of teams win by meter attrition/offense (burn all your meter to kill first char and mixup second + reset or some variation of that)
Funny thing is, a lot of people talk shit about Thor, but I don’t think any of them have ever posted in this thread. Most everything I’ve seen here is people saying that Thor is pretty damned solid, better than that even.
It’s pretty clear really, folks need to see evidence.
That’s what it took for Viper, that’s what it took for zero.
Nobody uses Thor at the really competitive events, and until they do he’s not gonna get attention.
Here’s what I got for a tier list:
Keep in mind that this list is much closer than you think. Compare where Felicia and Wolverine are or where Storm, Trish, and Akuma are.
Any opinions?
DuckStrong and others have posted a lot of good stuff for Thor.
“BUY ODINS BEER!!!”
I don’t care what you guys are talking about. I just wanted to type that.
I haven’t found a team for him since my old vanilla team Dante/Thor/Dorm does not really “work” anymore I’m thinking She-Hulk/Thor/Doom but I haven’t gotten around to testing it yet. He could always confirm off his air to air hits though it just required you know… ACTUAL hit confirming.
I ran Thor/Dorm/Haggar. Yeah, stupid.
Thor/Dorm still works and both love there beam assists.
And plus Thor’s mighty smash is the best OTG for Dorm due to the high it propels the opponent up.
I’m curios why you had Zero and Viper so far apart on the X axis? Not disagreeing with it too much, but I see Zero and Viper as being very close on the X axis, regardless of where they would be ranked on the Y axis.
well, still. He still doesn’t get any attention to speak of, altho’ as you noted people aren’t so down on him anymore.
I’m not so much saying that its right, but I’m saying that’s why he gets no love.
if tiers meant nothing then companies wouldn’t be nerfing/buffing all the time (now that we have patching)
It’s like the opposite of the Kwisatz Haderach.
