That’s one of the wittiest replies I’ve read so far this year. Kudos. The only real merit in that rant was Wolvie being B, tournament results say he should be A, but if he was A you’d have to shift Dante to S. Just my thoughts.
I think Striders only A as well, though if assists became a tier own their own Vajra would need to be S.

I snickered at this, he played three or four different teams at Big Two recently? He’s a great player though.
To be fair for Spider-man, he actually hit harder than he looks. It’s just…Spencer LOL DAMAGE makes people believe that Spider-man hits like a bug.

For some reason for me I can block Spidey much easier than I can Spencer. Manily because Peter telegraphs his zipline by doing a small hop backwards before shooting a web whereas Spencer’s seems more instant to me (it probably isnt) and Spencer just pwns me easy.
Spider-mans damage output could kill though it’s just very assist specific and heavy execution to do it, A ton of people aren’t taking advantage of Lengthy meter building combo > OTG assist > back dash ultimate web throw resets though, everyone dies with that 500k combo to 750k+ reset.
He’s another underrepresented one, we just need more Spidey’s on stream. I think right now he’s in B, but as soon as someone really good with him heads to more tourney’s and majors and shows the BS people might consider bumping him up to A.
@NaokiB4U it depends on the player, if they jump then zip the zip blockstun forces you to block and overhead but that person could of been predictable because he can do double overheads with M>M after a zip as well as Triple and quad overheads if he’s on the floor and zips towards you over your head.
There’s air dash > heavy then zip the pushblock for those overhead options and to stay in there, but as a spidey player it’s real easy to get predictable when you are chasing someone down in the heat of the moment.
What makes me think that? The fact that the low-tier characters are placed there solely because they have not being fleshed out with the optimal teams to address their issues. That’s why I think the whole current way tiers are set even if some don’t only think of it as 1 v 1, is flawed. I’m just suggesting we use grid-based tiers to show how some characters are more complex and people need to think outside the box of the standard “top 10 is S tier” ABC, etc. This is a team-based game, it can be tiered in a way that represents it more completely.
I also stated GR with Haggar or another assist, didn’t mention drones/missiles. That’s like saying “let’s set X assist as standard and any character that doesn’t do as well with it as another said character, is lower in tiers”. That’s the wrong mentality and you are absolutely right that in 2 months we have not found optimal teams yet, but that’s because alot of people don’t bother to put in lab work and stick to the standard assists that have been declared as gdlk by the pros (drones/missiles/Vajra/shopping cart) There’s still alot to explore, and I just think it’s worth it to see why some characters are in B-tiers as opposed to A or etc. for example, why is Morrigan often placed in B-tier, when I constantly see Dieminion, who doesn’t even know all of her best combos utilize her with the right assist and get 2nd place or first in tournaments on a consistent basis? He even admits that he doesn’t hit the lab with this game, so there’s much more untapped potential with her. Using Dr. Strange as an assist with her isn’t what most people would do, but as you can see it works and I would easily place Morrigan in A tier because she has alot of flexibility, great mobility, zoning tools and priority moves, and great damage, and her weaknesses can be covered easily.
I don’t think I’m being ridiculous in suggesting we take into more account how some assists cover others’ weaknesses (and i’m not always talking about the popular assists only) and how some team synergies are represented when we make tiers, by the use of grids which although may seem difficult for a common n00b to comprehend, more accurately represents the way this game is really played.
spidey and deadpool should be A tier but they’re just awkward to use characters and require practice while there are easier characters to use that can fill similar roles
deadpool fills a similar role that dormammu does (zoning with instant change to offense) but dormammu is way easier to use
spidey and zero fill similar roles (offensive character that is obnoxious as hell to land a clean hit on)
while yes, they’re totally different in application and other stuff, they still fill a similar enough role to turn some players away from them
Excepting, seriously, Dormammu and Zero are both better at the respective stated roles than deadpool and spiderman, as well as being more straightforward.
Considering the B tier to be bad in the first place is wrong. Secondly, quite a few people in the thread have put her in A.
You also seem to forget that tiers are about relative character strength. It’s not that Morrigan is bad, is that certain characters are stronger.
And whereas some characters need to have their weakness covered, others don’t have them in the first place and proper assists boost them even further.
It’s not that Ghost Rider is ranked without assists, rather that people have not yet figured out a way to use him on any team that deals with other good teams/characters well.
If you actually have a good team for Ghost Rider that people can try out and it can deal with many other teams well, expound on that.
As it is , people just do not have much of a reason to think he is that effective.
As for placing in the Weeklies, that has to do largely with player skill in the end.
LLND and his Lei Lei have made a splash in WNF with top competition many times, plus SCR.
While it indicates that it is possible for her to be used and do well, actual character strength and utility in teams is a different story.
well, deadpool and spidey do offer better assists which is a reason to use them
after playing a good lei-lei, she’s definitely not the worst character in the game, PW might be so bad that he deserves his own tier, lei-lei not so much
same could be said about tron, she’s bad but not PW bad
im actually surprised skrull isnt used that much in tournies its like he comes in and you kinda have to worry about pressing a button at the wrong time…you cant even try to zone the guy becuase he will just metor smash you. you kinda just have to wait till he does something stupid.
The meta will evolve, I remember reading around the time it first hit about how terrible Nemesis is, there was a point people rated him as the worst character in the game. Now he’s still not considered the best, but he’s in B. Not every team combination has been explored to it’s full potential, I’m sure characters status will rise when they find their niche.
I was actually thinking of taking something along the lines of Thor/Dante/Skrull to a tournament, still working on that team.
While liking Nemesis as a character; I still think people get hit by Nemesis primarily because they don’t respect him at all. He reminds me of Ghost Rider in that sense. If you lose to Ghost Rider you probably did something stupid imo.
Well, a lot of characters can blow you up for lack of respect (fuck you Hulk). A more useful way to look at it is, what options do you lose by giving the character that respect (and what do they gain). In Hulk or Sentinel’s case it’s actually quite a bit, jumping is risky, projectiles have risk, basically everything you do get a little bit of risk added to it.
In Ghost Rider’s case, the thing he shuts down, it people running straight at him. Unfortunately for him, that is but one of 100 different ways you can go about attacking him, and he doesn’t really have a lot of options to deal with the other methods of attack outside of AA heartless spire. Which brings me to another problem, his lack flexibility. Ghost Rider must commit to every button he presses, so if he guesses wrong he’s in trouble, also, his limited gattling tree means that he has trouble capitalizing on a lot of hits or pressing his advantage in the rare instance het has the advantage in the first place.
True at least Nemesis has the highly overrate tiger knee rocket launcher, jumping H spam, and a few nifty resets if you ever get the chance to use them. Tiger Knee RL is almost useless if the opponent isn’t sleeping. In all honesty I think that sometimes people give Nemesis TO much respect at the same time as none at all. His armored moves have nothing on Hulks. It’s just if you mess up your block string/drop your combo your going to eat brain dead Nemesis damage. (Online, where brainded…is that much better)
I guess that’s the whole game of the power characters. They are there to blow up auto pilot and lose to people with any kind of tactical consistent execution gameplay.
Eh…Ghost Rider beats more people than you guys give him credit for. If you have to get in the honest way, he is going to make it painful walking in. If you teleport and the Ghost rider player isn’t an idiot, he is going to punish the teleport.
Its like all Ghost Rider players live in this happy go lucky land where he doesn’t have assists to cover gaps.
