UMVC3 Patch/Balance Discussion *NO PATCH...but word is out of possible ALL CAPCOM VS game coming*

He needs lows. And a launcher hitting aerial opponents. That’s just about it, everything else about him is great.

Air mobility as a general rule does help a character.

Discussing balance changes you’d like to see is irrelevant since no update is happening.

I do find it odd that Capcom is spending a ton of resources promoting MvC Origins though. Like way more than they did UMvC3. Maybe they are gauging interest for a new iteration. I don’t know why they are spending so much time with promotional material because it completely surpasses any promotional stuff they did for 3SO.

Perhaps. Maybe they’re gauging on if it’s worth doing some more DLC/patchwork to the game after all, though it’s admittedly unlikely. Besides, it never hurts to thoerycraft a bit.

The problem with ‘theorycrafting’, not that I disagree its fun to speculate what you could give a bad character to make them good or at least usable, is that Capcom rarely if ever listens to its community for input on balance. Basically Capcom’s way to deal with things that are ‘too good’ is too beat the shit out of the character until they are terrible. If this game were to be updated, Zero and Vergil would probably have their nuts torn off. She Hulk is an example of a dominant character in Vanilla that was nerfed way too much.

I guess its just weird too me that Nitsuma would travel to EVO just to say ‘no patch is happening’. Not that I don’t believe him, if the development team has been disbanded as they’ve said then there really isn’t much reason to thing there will be a new iteration. All the potential rumors of any sort of balance patches have died down so there really isn’t anything to suggest that Nitsuma isn’t pulling the typical Capcom “no new version, except a few months down the line when we announce it” song and dance. I think he really means it when he says no new updates which is a rarity from this developer.

Alas, you are probably right. THE DREAM IS DEAD Kappa

I mean, there were LOTS of patch rumors around EVO. Why not use EVO as a convenient place to to say there is no patch, even if it isn’t true. It MAY be the same song and dance. As for the team being disbanded, well…

Yeah despite it being more or less clear there’s not going to be any new updates I love to speculate they’ll be additional content for games I play and enjoy when there at least some rumors flying around. I also like to hold onto some hope that they would give Iron Man a ground dash that isn’t completely terrible, because that single change could make the character so much better.

Believe me, I main the lawyer. I NEED some hope that they’ll make him not low-tier. Why they nerfed him is beyond me.

Honestly, you take away his invincibility as an assist? I’m okay with that in the long run. But PLEASE give him something else. I know he’s not easy to balance, but I’d like to see:
[]Missile as a point attack ( :df: + some :atk: maybe?)
[
]Maya as a move in Trial and/or Turnabout Mode. Heck, Maya as an assist would be pretty cool.
[]cr.:h: hits low in Turnabout Mode. So much.
[
]No meat when no red health

Bad evidence gives hard knockdown. Makes it useful in combos and gathering evidence. Not too keen on no bad evidence because it kinda reduces the utility of plinking Maya
But above all else…
Turnabout mode does NOT end until the Ace Attorney!

I agree with all of these tho I can SORTA see the assist nerf but it still sucks they did it also wish getting evidence wasn’t so random I mean a few games I get good evidence mixed with 2 bad evidence in a row but other games I just need one piece of good evidence and I get 4-5 bad evidence in a row.

This.
Some TAC infinites are really practical, I am currently using Ammy / Dormammu / Sentinel and I the only infinite that I find kind of tricky is Dorm’s. I can land Sentinel’s infinite in real match pretty much all of the time and build insane amounts of meter, it took me 30 minutes to get the timing right in training mode and about 2 days to land it consistently on real matches, it even improves Ammy’s grabs because you can just TAC instead of having to deal with high hit stun deterioration.

Is the enemy building bars while I’m attacking? Yes, but my team has incredible hypers that are totally worth it and I’m building bars faster than him anyway.

I can use a snapback and start abusing meter to inflict tons of chip damage on the incoming character so that the enemy is forced to burn X-factor just to be able to survive. He loses X-factor, he has low health and by now he should be running out of time, I don’t even need to land another infinite, I can start playing a keep-away strategy, chip him out or run away from him with flight mode, teleports or even slowing time with Amaterasu.

Strategies like this are practical and can be done at any point during a match. People that want to step up their games should start abusing the mechanics, there is no reason to keep yourself from using them in a competitive setting.

What would you do to rebalance the game if X-Factor were removed?

I think the best place to start would be buffing the characters Capcom obviously intended for the anchor position (Arthur, Phoenix maybe) and nerfing some of the more ridiculous start of the round nonsense (No throws for the first 0.5 second of the match or something similar to prevent Wolverine, Hulk, and Magneto from being required on point to not lose a character in the first 10-15 seconds of the match) to make the match overall proceed more smoothly. Furthermore, BUFF ASSISTS! We need invincible AAs, throw assists, more invincible/armored assists across the board, just the whole package. Remove the 1.5 damage scaling on assists and lower damage across the board to even out the match instead of necessitating Clutch-Factor comebacks. All of this would even out roster balance and create a greater focus on team synergy, strategy, and optimized combos/hitconfirms.

Heard a cool idea that you would always get good evidence in the middle of a combo.

Yeah, I think TAC infinites are really under utilized.

How about just removing the damage boost on X-factor while keeping the other properties.

There was a thread about that.

I personally would rather see it removed and the game rebalanced around its loss. This game’s pacing is influenced by X-Factor, sadly. If you were to slow down the game a bit to make comebacks less relevant and important, then the game would be a lot more balanced.

I personally think that comeback factor is an important part of the game. I would rather see that it scales not only by characters left on your side, but on your opponents side. If you have the same amount, you get a Level 1 XF. If you’re down one, you get a Level 2 XF. Down two, Level 3. Up one, Level 0? Up two, Level -1? Or maybe no XF if you’re up in characters.

I am fine with xfactor the way it is but I just wish they buffed the low tier chars nothing big but something they can bring to the table against the higher tier chars.

X-Factor is perfect how it is. TAC’s are dumb.

Game would be better without X-Factor or TAC’s.

I like both mechanics the way they are, personally.

What if there was a stun mechanic like the one in AE? To compensate for characters that have a similar mechanic (Wright, She-Hulk, etc.) said attacks could get some buff. Characters who’s combos do many hits get less stun per hit, and vice versa.

I like dogshit sandwiches.
