UMVC3 Patch/Balance Discussion *NO PATCH...but word is out of possible ALL CAPCOM VS game coming*

This is the last thing we should be questioning if it’s fair.

Well you can enjoy a game and still acknowledge it’s problems, the world isn’t binary.

It’s an old meme, but never mention ‘fair’ and ‘marvel’ within 20 paragraphs of each other (damn broke my own rule)

xes: please leave me alone.

ThatJollyOlBastid: lmao! i meant even in the unfair world that is mvc. does maya shield + assist even break the immoral jezebel rules of this game? one of the actual rules is you can’t call an assist while doing a special move.

You can click the ignore button so you don’t have to see what they post, but that doesn’t mean they have to stop posting.

Especially if you keep bringing things up that everyone seems to disagree with.

Welcome to reality, where not everyone is on the same page all the time. Just look at the arguments over TAC that I’ve been in recently. I sure as heck haven’t ignored anyone over that. There’s no point in a discussion or even a conversation if you only let people say what YOU think rather than what THEY think.

Well to refocus then, what’s the best way to fix TACs?

How about just making them reset or partially reset HSD instead of entering a ‘special state’ for the duration?

That way you still get the combo extension mechanic that Capcom clearly intends (although I think they’re wrong for that .>>), but you pretty much assure that there won’t be a repeat of this glitch… and I think a repeat is almost inevitable eventually if they leave the special state in.

What exactly do you mean by sealing the deal in the tournament?

Just because a character doesn’t win tournament left to right doesn’t mean they need buffs. Wesker/Wolverine isn’t winning right now, but you have to be a fucking moron to believe that Wesker needs buff. If Morrigan can go from Bottom 10 to Top 10 by a few buff, you don’t think it’s possible for Firebrand? Firebrand does not need big ones, he needs a few small thing and that’s it.

The point is that even in the most balance games in the universe, people will flock to top tier character regardless how of balance the game is. That doesn’t mean that a low tier character can’t be viable those.

Firebrand isn’t that gimmicky, nor his is unblockable setup something that you can avoid with ease.

None of them need buffs just because they might be gimmicky. You know how powerful Vanilla Wesker and Phoenix was in that game btw…

My gut wants delete, but that’s unrealistic.

There are a few things that might work:
1)Fix no state check during hitstun. This would remove the infinite and a few glitches and remove the infinites but leave TAC combo’s un hurt.
2) Only a partial Hitstun reset instead of hitstun suspend. Would change TAC combos, but they would still likely be very long
3) Remove meter gain from TAC combos. You keep the combo’s but they aren’t worth it outside of the initial TAC (the meter gain/drain) and the potential additional damage. This weakens TAC significantly, but many, including myself, consider anything that make TAC more crap a good thing.

If I were to change TACs, I would change them in this manner:

  • Unable to be countered
  • Change inputs. Instead of a direction + S, now it’s an direction + A1 or A2. This way you can choose who you want to switch to and it won’t get mixed up with the inputs of some S attacks.
  • Make it cost a meter.
  • Take away the meter stealing/gaining benefits.
  • Remove the infinite glitch.
  • Until the person doing the combo or the opponent lands, meter won’t be built during the combo.

My reasons:

  • Preferably, I want TAC to be like Crossover Counters, which is a method to switch characters in and out. Which is why I would change the inputs such that you can switch your team in order with one TAC with the cost of a meter. Because it costs a meter now, it shouldn’t be counter-able.
  • The lack of HSD decay mechanic is retained for the concept of “free damage”, but meter building during such combo is not enabled to prevent building the meter back from using the TAC. Characters capable of doing long TAC combos are still powerful but can’t build like 2 meters now (which I feel like is silly). This is also to prevent building back the meter used to do the TAC to begin with.
  • Infinite should be removed for obvious reasons. Just because it’s acceptable in MvC2 doesn’t mean it should be here.

Pretty much make it work like TvC aerial exchanges. I think that game had it right.

At this point I think Capcom just needs to make everyone hold dat shit for a year and in late 2013 come out with Marvel vs Capcom 4.

marvel vs capcom 4 with only two iterations of mvc3??? blasphemy!

They might. You know they don’t want to put any more money into UMvC3.

Then again, the BBB is on their ass, and people hate them. So the PR might be worth it.

I would bet my car that there won’t be an MvC4 within the forseeable future.

We’ll be lucky if they support MvC3, if that even

I’m just looking to Darkstalkers 4 at this point. I think we’re back to the point where fighting games just have stable releases and not so much have big blow out releases that compete with like Call of Duty n shit. They just don’t hold the casual interest enough for that.

I don’t remember who said it, but Capcom has the wrong model. They should look at Blizzard.

Blizzard does alot of work to make suer people keep playing, keep buying, and keep investing in their product.

Capcom just wants to take your $60 and move on to taking your next $60. It’s good in the short run, but you’ll make more money the blizzard way in the long run.

Amen. That’s what TACs should be. The end.

whoa. this is almost exactly what i was going to post. i was thinking maybe it should only cost half a meter, though. in any case, fuck yes +1 for this post.

Everyone wants TAC’s to be based on something other than a random guess.

And balanced accordingly of course.

And what authority do you represent? As far as I’m concerned, if I disagree with something someone says, I can go ahead and respond the way I see fit, not like I’m posting pornographic images here or spamming or anything of the sort. I’m simply stating what I think. Perhaps I could have been a bit “nicer”, but you clearly hadn’t read what I posted. Pretty much what I said was: “It’s stupid that people who whined about Marvel 3 being different from Marvel 2 are complaining about this.” What HE said that I said was “I support this.” Once again, I don’t. Again, perhaps I could have been a bit nicer about responding, but ignorance and idiocy just brings out the worst in me.

I’m not making a knock against any general group of players, I’m fine with those who like Marvel 2 and not Marvel 3, I’m fine with those who enjoy both, I’m fine with those who want this left in generally, and I’m generally fine with those who want this out. If you read what I originally stated, which I don’t think you did, you’d realize I’m picking on those who want Marvel 3 to be like Marvel 2, which it isn’t, different game and all, and ALSO complain about infinites when they were also in Marvel 2. We haven’t seen the effect that infinites will have on this game, so we don’t know if they will become more or less important than they were in Marvel 2. THAT’S what I was trying to say, not “I’m fine with infinites” because I never brought that point up once, and I’m actually not, FYI. I thought TACs were a bad mechanic, or at least poorly implemented, and this just makes it even worse. That’s my two cents.

Random thought what if hidden missiles just exploded (dealing no damage) or pass thru when the point was hit. That way they’re not a combo breaker, which I feel is the dumbest part about them.

that might be nice. i understand they just want hidden missiles to be great, but jeez! maybe they should just explode and pass through my character if my opponent’s point character, whether it be doom or not, is in hitstun.
the only thing you can do is use a grab/cinematic hyper so the missiles won’t hit you. people either hit doom a couple times, get hit by the missiles, et a huge combo, or just stop their combo, block and get pressured.
