It also make a game less repetitive, more variety, more reasons to replay it, and it gives more content in a game. If done correctly it will increase the value of a game, and make it more interesting. I mean DMC3 would be the same game if they just had Dante use only his rebellion and Ebony and Irony all day? Can you truly imagine Dante doing the same ****ing combo on a boss all day long, and it would get boring fast. I mean it’s part of the reason why NES Battletoad wasn’t a linear beat-em-up.
Most of all…good games will reward players for exploring the game. SSS in DMC3 will sometimes require royal guard, and demand that you know how to use it. Megaman has different weapons because those will allows you to get past bosses easier than your regular weapon. Random Sandbox games likes Hulk:Ultimate Destruction has requires you to buy better moves to complete the game much easier. God of War doesn’t make you consider your options, you don’t need to when Kratos’s regular blades could body anything you want. Whereas mastering a new weapon in Metroid and Zelda could be the only way of completing the game. Basically games with thought-out options give you viable and strong reasons to pick a different option and than just one.

DmC not having Bloody Palace…is a low blow. Though, to be fair I never used in 2, or only 3. And only 4 because the missions with Dante were…not exactly fun. Nero’s were though. So it’s whatever. Just do like the old DMC3 days and play at a mission that starts up with a bunch of good enemies to style on i guess.
